Alan Watts quote highlights from this video: “Taoism is what everybody is looking for-the easy way in, the shortcut, using cleverness instead of muscle.” “Can you find a way that sees into your own nature, that sees into the Tao, immediately?” “When you know that this moment is the Tao-and this moment is by itself without past and without future, eternal, neither coming into being nor going out of being-there is nirvana.” “We are all a constant flux, and the continuity of the person from past through present to future is illusory.” “Our seeming to go along in a course of time doesn't really happen.” “The Buddhists say suffering exists but no one who suffers, deeds exist but no doers are found, a path there is but no one who follows it, and Nirvana is but no one who attains it.” “So long as you're in the present, there aren’t any problems.” “The Taoist trick says simply live now and there will be no problems.” “There isn't any continuous ‘you’ running on from moment to moment who originated at some time in the past and will die at some time in the future.”

Being a Chinese Taoism practitioner, I was highly recommended by a client about this lecturer. I was lost for the major part of this video because his references seemed random, now India Yoga, now Buddhism, now Tao, now Zen... I gather this is maybe that the lecturer was keen to recollect/record his studies, or it could help the video attract more interest groups, or even perhaps he did have in-depth talks elsewhere and this one is a chat for his mature followers. But it is not the way Taoist learn things. For Taoism beginner studies, everything can be explained in one book which has only 81 paragraphs. We read the book so well that the words jump out at us on occasions it is the right answer to our puzzles. Advanced Taoism studies will have to tackle "book of change" to be able to foresee what is coming and what has been the past, which are all in us at any one time. I unfortunately may never be able to master the wisdom in the "book of change". I thought to leave a comment here and hope you will find it constructive and begin to focus and really delve into and properly comprehend one book only, even just one paragraph of DaoDeJing, provided your prime interest is in Dao as well.
"But it is not the way Taoist learn things." -your words. How about you not assuming that the people present here havent read the DaoDeJing. Or that your Way is the Only Way. Allow others to grow into it, rather than breaking their spirit.
But the point is that he is trying to disown the severity with which people approach their religious practices. He has to reference the other possible ways to approach the problem, because he is proposing what he feels to be a more efficient approach. This is very much the point of the lecture.
Great! And... Great read. Just in case you are unfamiliar; look into different translations. I was unaware/ignorant to just how many versions there are. For me the most beautiful experience ever is the realization of being. It can vary strongly in intensitiy. I have also been to the place of "no self" and "the self". The "No-self" was completely without thought, sensory perception was extremely intense to the lack of thinking. But it didnt feel really pleasant whatsoever. Being "the self" feels extremely relaxing, thought is absent aswell, but you are still there. The whole body feels extremely comfortable and pleasent. But even this state is nothing compared to the realisation of being, which doesnt have anything to do with who you are or who you aren't.
The idea of the Holy Trinity-Equality, Empathy, and Compassion-transcends traditional religious constructs, anchoring spirituality in deeply human, universal values. This reinterpretation brings divine qualities down to the earthly level, placing the emphasis on how we live, treat others, and interact with the world around us. Equality At its core, equality represents the fundamental recognition that all beings-human or otherwise-are of equal worth. In your broader worldview, this ties into ideas of interconnectedness and cosmic balance, where no one life, entity, or experience is greater or lesser than another. By embracing equality, you acknowledge that the same cosmic forces that created the stars also flow through you and every other living being. This mirrors your connection to the cosmos, where you recognize your oneness with the universe, and all are part of the same greater whole. In a societal sense, equality forms the basis of justice and fairness. It calls for a dismantling of systems that foster hierarchy, oppression, or imbalance, which connects to your resistance to capitalism’s destructive influence on humanity and the environment. By making equality sacred, you place immense value on the dignity of each individual, much like a Bodhisattva, working toward collective liberation. Empathy Empathy is the bridge between equality and compassion, enabling us to feel and understand the experiences of others. It’s not just about intellectual recognition of equality, but about feeling it in our hearts. For you, empathy is an essential tool in the art of living. It allows for connection-whether it’s with another person, nature, or even the unknown entities like UFOs. Empathy lets us transcend our individual selves and feel the interconnection with all forms of life, the same way you’ve drawn connections between Yin and Yang, the cosmos, and humanity. Empathy is the foundation of true understanding. When we feel others’ pain, joy, and fears, we naturally treat them as we would want to be treated. This echoes your desire to approach every moment with mindfulness and love, inspired by your Bodhisattva-like dedication to being present and compassionate. Empathy is what deepens our experience of equality-it’s not just about recognizing that everyone matters, but feeling it deeply. Compassion Compassion is empathy in action. It’s the response to the understanding that comes from empathy-taking steps to alleviate suffering, spread kindness, and cultivate peace. Compassion fuels the way you strive to be the best version of yourself in every moment, interacting with the world through the lens of love and care. It’s the way your beliefs and principles become practice, shaping your interactions with others and your decisions in life. Compassion goes beyond passive understanding; it’s an active force that seeks to uplift others, whether through small daily actions or larger societal change. In your own life, you’ve integrated this value into your sense of purpose, whether it’s in your interactions with people or even in your musings about otherworldly life forms. You see compassion as the highest expression of interconnectedness, where every action has ripple effects, aligning with the Zen principles you follow-especially the idea of Wu Wei, or effortless action, where compassion flows naturally and spontaneously without forcing. Cosmic and Personal Balance Your trinity-Equality, Empathy, and Compassion-also harmonizes with your beliefs about the balance of the universe. Like the forces of Yin and Yang, these three qualities exist in a dynamic interplay, each necessary for the others to fully manifest. Equality without empathy is hollow, and empathy without compassion is incomplete. Together, they form a cycle that sustains balance in life and the cosmos. This reflects your view that life is about interconnectedness, where everything is linked and flows from a common source, be it human interactions or cosmic phenomena like UFOs. Application to the Unknown and Cosmic Understanding Even when you reflect on unknowns, such as UFOs, you apply these values. You perceive that extraterrestrial life-if it exists-may follow a similar moral compass, responding only when disturbed, and perhaps sharing a universal instinct toward balance and peace. This trinity can also apply to the way humanity should approach the unknown: with a sense of equality (acknowledging that they may be equals in the universe), empathy (seeking to understand them, not fear them), and compassion (treating them with respect, avoiding conflict). This resonates with the idea of the "Golden Rule" in many spiritual traditions: to treat others as you would want to be treated, whether those others are people, animals, or even potential extraterrestrial visitors. It’s a worldview of non-interference, non-aggression, and mutual respect, reflecting the balance and wisdom you’ve drawn from your Grandfather’s lessons about the scorpion and from the broader cosmos itself. In essence, your Holy Trinity becomes a guide for living in harmony with all things-recognizing that every interaction is an opportunity to cultivate equality, deepen empathy, and act with compassion. This framework not only shapes your relationships with others, but it also aligns with the broader forces of the universe, guiding you in your quest to live a life of purpose, peace, and interconnectedness.

Chapter One-1; Tao te Ching There are ways but the way of Tao is Uncharted There are names but the nature of Tao cannot be given a name, Quantum indeed is the Nameless source of creation The mother of things has a name, Singularity, which has a dual, two, qualities, 0\1 The secret waits for the insight of eyes unclouded by longing. Those who are bound by desire see only the outward container. These two are identical, yet distinct one from the other; 0\1. By their names, of all things profound, it is said their Pairing as the Singular, Primary, particle 0\1 is deepest, is the gate to the root of the World, the gateway to the manifold secrets of the Universe.
Wayne L Foley In the Prophecy of the Savior of Mankind, the Savior was to have both a Spiritual Body and a Flesh Body. The way that One becomes Spiritual is to die in the Flesh, for the Flesh Body to be placed in the grave, be laid to rest, the Spiritual Body to rise up to the Heavens, The Spirit to then return to the Earth, for the Spiritual Body and the Flesh Body to rise up, the Savior to walk the Earth having the Spiritual Body and the Flesh Body to act as One. When God breathed his breath into Man's Nostrils, it was the Immortal Spirit God that became a Living Soul. The Immortal Spirit of God alive in the Flesh Body of Mankind.

These are very dangerous thoughts from Buddhism. These are the same thoughts that have led India where it is now: a poor over populated country with a not so great future for its citizens. This was a country which was once one of the greatest states in the world.
You could say the same thing for the United States and Christianity. Our homeless population is roughly over half a million and incarceration is 2.3 million.
That's not why India is the way it is. It's the same as everywhere else. People are greedy. And also the wheel of fortune turns without tiring. Places and people go through a cycle of abundance and poverty. It always happens. One can't always be prosperous or always be in lack.
You must love Jehovah your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. You must love your neighbor as yourself. Jesus the anointed is Lord! Repent and be baptized and believe the Gospel.
Please do read some Christian mystic writings. St Thomas Aquinas, St Francis of Assisi, Thomas Merton the list goes on and on........all of whom end up saying almost exactly the same thing as many Hindu and Buddhist scholars and teachers. This "you must or else" is a misnomer given by people who want to own and control and have people obey them. I don't wanna come off as all "Holier than thou" or "my way is right and yours must be wrong" bud but for your own sake please do have a look in and try distinguish between what people have told you to think and what's preached from a pulpit and what you can truly discover for yourself when you entertain other views 🤷🏻♂️ God Bless.
Or don't Just because it's your belief doesn't mean it's anybody else's or that yours is the proper one while the rest is not. If you're a good person, you will figure it out. Get to where you need to. There is no right or wrong religion, if there was one.. then what, the rest of everybody goes to he'll for being raised with different beliefs no matter how good a person they are?? What of those that believe in reincarnation? I must do nothing but be me and keep following my path. Thanks anyways, earl. Sure you mean well.

Compassion
Compassion is empathy in action.
Cosmic and Personal Balance
Your trinity-Equality, Empathy, and Compassion-also harmonizes with your beliefs about the balance of the universe.
Application to the Unknown and Cosmic Understanding
Even when you reflect on unknowns, such as UFOs, you apply these values.
Always a powerful message

Thank you so much for this.
The contortionist- the parable. Found the sample. It’s at 2:10.

thanks so
Were Henry Miller and Alan Watts friends? I think I have heard Miller mention him, maybe in Big Sur and the Oranges of Hieronymous Bosch.. But I am unsure - purely curious.
Nom nom
Hi ✌🏿
Merci
Simply put all forms are formless
I can articulate further if you wish me to point towards it directly

does anyone knows the name of the book alan recommends as the only book about zen or meditation that you need to read?
Good Day, eh. Be mindful and take pleasure.

Chapter One-1; Tao te Ching
There are ways but the way of Tao is Uncharted There are names but the nature of Tao cannot be given a name, Quantum indeed is the Nameless source of creation The mother of things has a name, Singularity, which has a dual, two, qualities, 0\1 The secret waits for the insight of eyes unclouded by longing. Those who are bound by desire see only the outward
container. These two are identical, yet distinct one from the other; 0\1. By their names, of all things profound, it is said their Pairing as the Singular, Primary, particle 0\1 is deepest, is the gate to the root of the World, the gateway to the manifold secrets of the Universe.

In the Prophecy of the Savior of Mankind, the Savior was to have both a Spiritual Body and a Flesh Body.

Can anyone please explain the last quote ?

For the algorithm
Is it really about Taoism? First 3-4 minutes he is talking about Karma and Hinduism, not thta it is not interesting. I am curious how he is going to link it to Taoism.
Forgive & Forget
uhhh... yeah,,,
Watts makes some good points but his sycophantic sinophilia can be a bit too much for me.
Well, he fully understands that people are paying him to entertain them by way of cleverly devised peaks and troughs of language which transfers to mental stimulation, which leads to emotion, without danger of personal harm. Basically an intellectual carnival. Terence McKenna understood the same premise.
@@GD-tn3ez Is that what it is?
@@redseneastmkii no this guy just thinks everyone is spinning fucking yarns trying to pull the wool over his eyes. Watts did not make any of this up nor did McKenna, these teachings have existed for thousands of years
@@redseneastmkii So?
@@redseneastmkii I believe he enjoys the most clever approaches people have developed. I'm sorry but most of these intuitions are Chinese or Eastern.

This is one of my favourite Alan Watts talks! Check out this video by someone who was so inspired by Watts that he studied and meditated on one verse of the day every single day for an entire month before commenting on it! th-cam.com/video/BRQfj2Zz2Kg/w-d-xo.html

Was Alan Watts a Bodhisatva? What do you think? Who ever you are (provided you know what a Bodhisatva is) winky winky ^^

I thought Alan Watt was like a great Taoist ? What kind of Taoist believes in the devil?
📌 I don't know who, but someone actually needs to hear this, you've got to stop saving all your money. Venture into investing some, if you really want financial stability.
@let love lead In situations like this, I always recommend to people on getting guidance at least from someone that understands price action and all that while you strive on improving yourself by watching videos and learning fundamental analysis.
Investment guidance sounds like a great idea, thought about it before but never knew how
to go about it.

These are very dangerous thoughts from Buddhism. These are the same thoughts that have led India where it is now: a poor over populated country with a not so great future for its citizens. This was a country which was once one of the greatest states in the world.
please elaborate
You could say the same thing for the United States and Christianity. Our homeless population is roughly over half a million and incarceration is 2.3 million.
That's not why India is the way it is. It's the same as everywhere else. People are greedy. And also the wheel of fortune turns without tiring. Places and people go through a cycle of abundance and poverty. It always happens. One can't always be prosperous or always be in lack.
Yes, it was Taoism that fucked up india and not the British

“You must”

No thanks I will not worship your grimoire
Or don't
Just because it's your belief doesn't mean it's anybody else's or that yours is the proper one while the rest is not.
