Great video i think. Its a reminder to keep your eyes open for the disrespectful people on the lake. And as a new to sailing guy, helps me understand what kind of wind im going to aim for . 10 mph or less to start seems safe for lake ontario. Love my newport 16
That was a powerful blow for the ole Compac under full sail. Try reefing the main a bit next time and she'll be easier to handle under such conditions. She's missing her batons, too (which is understandable. The first time we took our compac out, it started flipping the batons right out of the pockets first time the sails luffed a bit). Would be a great day to raise just the jib and blow downwind after a long day of tacking upwind. The compac's a wonderful downwind rocker with just a jib or genoa.
I hooked some string up and tied mine so they can't get lost after the 3rd time. Gotta be creative. You do need those though or your sail gets deformed.
May I suggest that in high winds, close your hatches in case of a knockdown. You are still a heck of a sailor. There seemed to be a unusual amount of fools out that day in motor boats.
The comapc 16 is supposed to be for heavy winds but I find mine hard to control in a blast. Always wants to heel right over and you have to turn away from the wind fast and depower the sail or you are done. I put reefing points in my sail and had them reinforced. The roller reefing is terrible.

You kept the boat flat the entire time. You need to run the lines aft. You did a splendid job. You are an excellent sailor.
