Well, the cathedral in Chartre is surly intresting, but thereare alsow the chatedral in Reims, the crowning churtch of the French kings with the fantastisk widows of Marc Chagal, well werth a visit and the arcitecture on the exterior is fenomenal! With all the garegoyls etc. And the unic baptisteri in the crypt! 🕊🇸🇪
We put cous-cous directly into similar dishes of meat and vegetables but I have found the key is to have a very thin "watery" sauce in it with no thickeners. I bring this to a good boil, add the cous-cous, stir, let it come back up to a boil for a second or two and then turn it off and sit covered for 5 minute or so. Doing it this way I have found you get fluffy cous-cous with all the flavour of the sauce. If you boil the cous cous or have a sauce that is too thick then you get a very stodgy pasty texture that isn't pleasant.
Ken I can just imagine the soup would have come out better if you cook your couscous or ( rice ) separate. Then mix it together after the couscous or rice is cooked. Guys , I’m your new fan from Upstate New York.
Hi Jacqueline. I remember taking Carol to New York. We loved it. It was a bribe to get her to give up work and spend our lives travelling. Yes keeping it separate would have been much better 👍
Watching on what i think is weekend morning 🤔🤔lost in bloody days 😂 nice Cuppa tea 🍵 & enjoying seeing someone else make a balls of making a meal & not just me which is wht i stick to just usually toaster or microwave 😀 😂😂 ya can't win 'em all ya know! Anyways I've re stocked & we have Lindor & Miniature Heroes to takle this next few days...dirty job but someone has to do it Ken!! What have you 2 got for munching on??????🤔
Big shop today for New Year feasting. Fancy some nice beef. Chocolates nearly all gone (mainly scoffed by Carol 😁). Will soon be time to be kind to my belly and get fit for the new van 😁👍
@@LifeistooshortCK mmmmmm..beef sounds a good choice especially with chips Ken ! Yes nre van imminent so not too many chocolates bug moderation is good 👍 😋 👌
Carol has perfected the art of hair washing in the van. Like the traffic lights with a countdown. Nice park up by the water. Shame some people don’t respect it. Pity your dinner was a bit stodge. Maybe putting the cous cous by itself in a bowl with boiling water could work as the sauce looked pretty good. Pleased you had a peaceful night in the end 😊👍
Hari OM At least you have a go with the cooking duties, Ken - kudos for that! OOhh Chartres...I don't remember an awful lot of our adventures in France during my teenage years, but the visit to Chartres Cathedral has never been forgotten... I look forward to your view of it (she says expectantly!!!) YAM xx
What a pleasant way to wake up and have morning coffee. I recall visits to Chartres Cathedral, one of the best in France and immediately around it are parts of what would have been a medieval village originally. It was always on my route south through Northern Spain via the Pyrenees and on to Portugal via Burgos, from the North (have driven and done by train a few times). Getting any tanen stains/tastes out of any mugs, historically I have found is always easiest in a dishwasher or you can sterilise them by immersing in boiling, if you think they would survive (bleach can always be used). Best travel mugs I ever have had were from Starbucks (at the time very expensive) but they have strong waterproof lids with a drinking slot, rubber seals to lessen spills and invading insects, external rubber base. Take care & stay safe. Kia Ora from New Zealand. 💜💜
You have a wealth of experience Xavier. If it was possible I would subscribe to your brain and save myself time 😁👍. If only we could bequest our life experience to a younger mind when we are done with it.
@@LifeistooshortCK Sadly these days, it is more like 'random shuffle', you push the button open the mouth and can not always be sure what comes out... sometimes a blank, you are sure the name/thing has a 'w' in it, when it does not!. Take care & stay safe. 💜💜
Got to admit yet another video that I have really enjoyed. But I've got to admit I'm always hearing about these Boy Racers.. Ken keeps talking about and it makes me oddly wonder when are we going to see a James Dean type Rebel video series of Ken embracing a "mid-life" hobby and become a boy racer lol
@@LifeistooshortCK really lol i would it have guessed. We get lots of guys my age who buy the fast cars and become a bit rebellious out of no where and we call it a midlife crisis and that is kinda the joke I was trying to get at. Lol
Happy summer days! Always good to experiment with food couscous is better done separately to stop it clumping not the easiest in a camper van I agree 😂❤
Happy new year to you both a quick tip for camelback mugs use a heap teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda to every 500ml leave to soak over night rise well I do mine once a week
Hi Ken and Carol, what a lovely video the scenery has been so lovely to see, open fields and no houses being built that means a lot to me. We have watched all your videos over the festivities and have enjoyed all of them, thank you again for taking us all with you. Happy New Year and will see you next time…exciting times ahead with the new van hopefully 🙏
This was another lovely vlog. First I was confused that it was longer than your daily vlogs, but your Friday videos are always longer 👍😊. Would you be so kind and give me the name of the song which you used at around 9:10. You used it already in another video, but I can't remember the name. As already mentioned I always enjoy your music choice. Thank you👍
Ach the boom boom of the boy racer, at least we now know they’re not unique to Britain 🤭 Glad they didn’t disturb you too much. So frustrating when a meal goes a bit wrong 😑 Cous Cous can be a bit silly at times. Em 💜
Loved the horse synced to the music - how much did it cost to rent lol 😂 The parkup up looked fabulous … cooking in a van sometimes just goes wrong … not cooked couscous much to be honest Great episode
It’s a bit like the Red Arrows. If you know the exact time you need them it’s cheap. But if they have to hang around whilst you wash up it costs a lot more 😁👍
Nice video folks......time to give up the doughnuts and flans. The sugar will creep up on you and before you know it........Just a bit of friendly advice from a fellow senior who is now having to deal with the consequences of a sweet tooth.
What does the Jagged teeth mean? My mom and her husband Were cremated but we still buried The urns. The cemetery they are in Keeps Nice nice nice. I occasionally go out there To make sure Our Plot Is in good shape. My dad And my brother were also cremated but My other mom has the earns In her house.
That building in the middle of the road looked like an old toll house like a turn pike toll road, or was it a local police box .I’ll eat anything looked good to me with chips half and half 🤣😂 great video well done good luck 👍👍👍🏴🇬🇧🇨🇦🦢
It is very easy in France as there are so many places away from residential areas. We don’t need facilities in the little red camper as we fill up with bottled water and don’t have a grey waste tank. Time will tell when we get our new van. I suspect we will use campsites more ☺️
@@LifeistooshortCK oh thank you! how annoying. So they purposely try to taunt you.? Very silly. No wonder you don’t react to them. My husband and I love your videos. We enjoy the travels of course but are always super keen to see what delicious concoctions you may whip up in the little red camper next! Thank you and Happy New Year 🥳
This was another really enjoyable episode through the rural backroads of northern France (Eure-et-Loire) 👍 Your aerial shots of these sorts of areas show just how large and predominantly rural France is. As for the 1902 roadside building (///balloon.replicating.hobbling), it appears to have been a little pumping station - taking water from the nearby pond to the small water tower next to the rather large church (///truancy.smokers.spectator) for such a small commune. Nb. The church also appears to be a possible park-up, based on the Google Map street view showing a huge camper van there...
I love your humor and adventurous spirit! At least with that meal you now can make emergency cement if the need arises! Mary

So it's not just Britain. They have boy racers in France too. We have been to France many times but never seen any!!
They are nowhere near as common as in the UK and fairly mild in comparison 👍

It’s a name that van life folks use for anyone (mostly teenagers) who love to taunt you late at night with loud music, flashing lights or the horn. 👍
