Reggae Fan Yea because they all had success and could still do the group thing. Nobody gave a shit about anyone but MJ and then later Janet but she wasn't even in Jackson 5
It's interesting to compare this Telephone Man with an appearance they made on Soul Train about a year earlier. Bobby is showing out on this one, while the earlier show is pretty ordinary. It might have been painful at times, and I'm sure the movie will show how much, but Bobby pushed his own career and theirs to greater heights. And everything happens for a reason. Johnny became part of the crew, in a few years we also get BBD, and it seems that all fences are mended now with age and wisdom. God bless all these guys. They sure represent a time in a lot of our lives and that's not a small thing.
It must have hurt to hear Dick Clark say that with so many records sold they could not just go to the movies but they could buy a movie theater, knowing full well that when the sun went down that day, they went back home to their project apartments and had earned nothing more than $1.87 after having sold a double platinum album...and Mike clearly lied when he said they have arguments but don't physically fight when they physically fought often (The New Edition Story (2017) on BET! Poor kids....used and abused by a crooked producer and record company. Thank God they persevered!!!
Unfortunately this is the same sad story for most young Black Artist. Far too many times are these young artist robbed though lack of knowledge about the business, even by people that look like them. Sharks are everywhere in any business, trust no one. Fortunately now you can pretty much do everything on your own it just take passion, hard work, commitment, and conviction to see it through.
Well....that's what they THOUGHT! Couldn't afford to even GO to the movies, much less buy them with $1.87....split 5 ways. Sad. Love these guys so much!!!
Just hit the Culture tour myself this past Friday in Oakland, im 47 years old and seeing New Edition WITH ALL 6 ORIGINAL MEMBERS was put on my bucket list about 2 years ago, what a treat it was to see them. @@squireboi318, Even though Ricky might have had a better voice, Ralph had the voice, the height, the looks (The whole package), and the girls related more to him than anyone in the group. That is what a record company wants in a lead vocalist, "The one that is more marketable" for their company. Plus be someone that can pull in fans and critics alike. Ricky was/is a singer, Ralph is a singer/entertainer/showman that's not afraid to go all over the stage and get down out front to serenade the fans. There are 4 great singers in NE, Ralph was just the one that had the it factor.
Alma Sasser I get what ur saying and not disagreeing at all. But in that day in time Ralph was pushed more to the front bcuz of his complexion, so let’s call it what it is. All them were taught the same moves and pretty much would of been the same driving force had they been marketed to sing lead!{well the guys that could actually sing Ricky &Bobby}But if we’re talking about it factors and showmanship Bobby ran circles around Ralph and it showed! Nevertheless Ralph is great tho!
Fast forward to the year 2022 & these youngsters are on their New Edition Culture Tour including Johnny Gill doing phenomenal. New Edition is R & B Music Royalty 👑👑👑👑👑👑💕One Love 💕
I was there from the beginning but even I didn't know until a few years ago Ralph had a whole curl that was slicked down😂 Idk who was in charge of his hair but they stayed playing in my boo face.
I'm 40 now. I was 2 going on 3 when this song came out. I remember being 4 or 5 and looking at the album cover this song was on. I had a crush on New Edition at that young of an age. I loved this song as a little little kid. This song brings me back to when life was so so simple. I always sing it with all my heart. ❤ I also love that Ronnie said they'd want to do this until they're like 80. I saw them in concert a week ago in Chicago for The Culture Tour 2022. These guys are now in their 50s and it was one of the best concerts I ever been to. I wish them wealth and healthy and even more longevityto perform until in their 80s. It's so funny that they did most of the same dance moves at the concert as they did in this live performance for Mr. Telephone Man. I love it! They are legends! They need to be in The Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame. 👏🏿❤
Ralph was shaking in his 👢 👢 boots at end Bobby had them vocals back then, that lil slick spin Ralph did🥱. And until this day BOBBY BROWN still has the BIGGEST fan base.❤
Lost in love one of my favorites, I saw them in concert and swore Ralph was singing to me, I felt like I was the only one there...I love Rizz, my first crush...N.E. forever!!!

New Edition is one of my favorite music groups since the 80s. I always liked the suits they're performing on stages on tv shows and music videos from all around the world. I hoped they'd had some advice for any music groups for the next generation that could sing and dance just like them and the old school singing groups way back.

The fights started right before Bobby got dropped from the group. Two years later.
$1.87 after deducted expenses. They still made money on tours just not nearly enough.
The $1.87 was from Streetwise for Candy Girl
