    Just found your site as I have been deliberating getting a 3d printer. Really like the way you describe an issue, design a solution, test, amend then implement successful fix. Lots of 3d printing sites show printing unnecessary tat, whilst you always show useful components. Subscribed.

    It's very encouraging to see the print quality is VERY good on the A1. It'll be my first printer. Just got to get a big desk out of my storage to set it on

      it is not just very good, it is extremely good. I would go as far as saying that it is the best out of all the 3d printers currently on sale now.

      @@riba2233 😎 I've had my A1 for a few months now and one extremely happy with it. I've also bought the a1 mini, which I've also very much enjoyed using.
      The A1 series rocks. Just waiting in my replacement heatbed for it, but still printing.

    I really think using CAD (Cardboard Aided Design) is the way to prototype anything. Carboard (fluted corrugate) is so prevelant that it is a non ending supply. A little packing tape and a pair of scissors. When you get one that works, then just make it in Sketchup.

    Please consider making a video about your CAD program and why you selected it. I want to get back int CAD design and have been looking at all the common ones while tinkering with onshape free version. But it only allows something like 10 files and is online and runs a little slower than I'd like. All files are public whic is ok for my hobby only projects. I'm looking forward to what you have to say. Thanks for your excellently presented content!

    2:10 if you value anything in that cabinet and it has glass shelves consider swapping them for polycarbonate or a laminated glass shelf. [edit:Sliding bottle in an out may scratch the glass and increase odds of failure.
    I had $10,000 worth of collectible crystals shatter as the top tempered glass shelf shattered and dropped on the 3 or 4 shelves below taking them with it.
    No warning - we were just sitting watching tv and there was a bang and then crashing of all crystal to floor, we all sat there stunned.
    Oh and insurance wouldn’t pay for crystal, only the ikea shelf. Subsequent damage is not covered apparently.

    I think you would have been fine making the bottom of the bucket completely flat and not using supports. The Bambu Lab printers seem to do bridging really well.

    Very nice useful project. Maybe you can't hear the printer because of all the shots of booze taken when the ejected filament went to the floor!! LOL!! Great job.

    First time seeing this channel, just as I am looking at getting a A1 post crimbo. I have seen the likes of Uncle Jessy crest a purge bin and now your creation, just interested in why so far no one has created something that sits on the purge bit and has a small bag similar for the clear bags to place toiletries in airport security. Is there the concern it would put weight on the gantry?

    • @FunctionalPrintFriday
      @FunctionalPrintFriday  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's an interesting idea. I think the main concern would be weight as it fills up and the temp of the purged material (potentially melting the bag)

  • @florianmaslofski
    @florianmaslofski 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    what would be interesting would also be to make the botton long part of it 2-3 parts, with flip up covers, so if you have multiple materials, you can flip open the right one, as to separate the materials for recycling. you could also dump it every time to the right container, but then that would be extra work, and filling the whole thing up would take a good while anyways, even with half volume for PLA + PETG for example

    • @FunctionalPrintFriday
      @FunctionalPrintFriday  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thx, it's a good idea if I stick with single-color prints. If I put the AMS on though, the waste generates fast (may be dumping that bin before a print even finishes).

    I am very interested in 3-D printing. In this video I noticed that you have located the printer in an interior room other than a basement , etc. I don't know anyone that has a 3-D printer and was curious to know how much of a smell there is with the melting plastic. I think I would be forced to locate the printer out in my garage. Living in Florida it would mostly be hot and humid out there. Would this be a satisfactory location for printing and is the smell still going to be overwhelming?

    • @FunctionalPrintFriday
      @FunctionalPrintFriday  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      if you stick to PLA/PETG you won't notice any smell indoors.

    little bumper on the bottom of the bin to stop it tilting down? not important from functionality but just from OCD :P

    • @FunctionalPrintFriday
      @FunctionalPrintFriday  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I considered it, but the one nice thing about the way it sits is that it's resting right against the glass with gravity "levering" it against it, so there's zero chance of even small bits of filament sneaking between the glass and the bin.

    Thanks for the video. :)
    I know it would be a lot more work, but is it possible for you to create a supplemental video on one of your future functional prints explaining your drawing process and the tools you use in Fusion 360 (my preferred CAD software) or whichever CAD program you use (I think I've seen you use SketchUP?)? I would personally find the explanation and development of the drawing very useful.
    Once again, thanks for creating this channel. I've really been enjoying catching up on the backlog.

    Nice work! If you gave it a small hooked edge of some kind it could probably nestle under the edge of the printer. Could also extend it back and make a cut out for around the gantry.

    • @FunctionalPrintFriday
      @FunctionalPrintFriday  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for sharing the idea. That's exactly where my head was originally at on this design, particularly since it would make it more universal and not just a fit for my use case, but I got worried it might rattle or interfere with the vibration dampening/tuning.

      I believe the Bambu Lab noise reduction is more complex than stealth chop, which has lower speed limitations.
