I have a cheap HFT press like yours. I had to weld shims on the slide bar to make the press go straight down instead of side to side, you might want to do the same.
Awesome video on the procedure; not the faint of heart or typical DIY shop at home. That "single cylinder crankshaft assembly fixture" is $1,000 on Parts Unlimited! I suppose buying the new OEM parts (thrust washers, crank pin, and bearing) and taking it to a motorcycle repair shop wouldn't run too much on labor?
Looks like the dial gauge is right above the v-block or very close. That is not an accurate way of checking run out, the only thing you are going to read there is if the shaft journal is out of round.
Can't believe this was at a college...and the teachers do not know anything about the procedure. How embarrassing...they think all their cranks are perfect because they have no clue how to measure.
I'm an amateur I built my own truing stand. I didn't even consider putting my indicator that closed in. I got it as close to the ends as I could with a smooth surface to go off of. Plus I figured it wouldn't hurt to put a dab of oil on either end@@donkarstedt1637
I dont see how the jig holds each web exactly opposite each other, seemed like there was no recess, but there must be some way it does that. When pressing together, I see the use of the caliper, but if you press too tightly, you have to dismantle it and start over? Seems a bit hit and miss.
The two webs are identical size and shape as are the holes that they fit in on the jig. The crank pin physically cannot go in one web and not the other if it is not in alignment.

Ik this vid is old by now but i have a 2007 rmz 250 that needs the crank rebuilt but you cant pop the rod pin out with a press bc of the 2 sides being in the way, the only way to get the pin out is to seperate the weights but i have no way to do this, im more than happy to hear some ideas :)
@@MattJonesYT and? What does that have to do with it being a manual press and literally having to be the biggest fuckwit in order to hurt your self with it? Were talking about crushing your hands here not shit exploding. 😒
@@YeeThirty Wow, you really don't get it. No, we are NOT talking about crushing your hands. When you are pressing something and it breaks when it shouldn't, pieces can fly out of there with enough force that if your hands are in the way you're going to really regret it.
Good video, but could be MUCH BETTER without the completely useless and annoying music. That time would me much better used to explain some of the finer points of the process instead of leaving the viewers guessing about what you didn’t show or explain.
The press plate came from our local KTM dealer. I posted the part number and his phone number at the end of the video. The crankshaft installing jig and the crankshaft alignment tools were purchased through Parts Unlimited. You must go through a dealer to purchase those tools as well (you could use the KTM dealer). The part numbers for those tools are also listed at the end of the video. Thanks for watching.
because that press does not have a built in dial gauge which gets the distance right so you dont press it too close and have to dismantle and start over.

Nice press, spared no expense and got a good one i see.

Yes check it at the ends of the shaft where is could runout, not on the bearing journal on the truing stand. Amateurs! WTF school was this???
I agree total hack job
Better to put it between centres to true it up

Never press too tightly too fast, sure they pressed it little by little until they got their desired specs
Awesome!

Where did you get the crank pressing plate
Hi, Nice video!!
could you please help me understand, when changing connecting rod kit, do you go for over size pin or same size pin? Thanks
Do these tools work for all snowmobile engines?
Wondering if the KTM press plate would work on my 79 250 Elsinore. Also what is the part number for the plate? Thanks

Heat. And lots of it
@@YeeThirty grind the rod and the pin with a axle grinder
my hands would never be near the press parts, care full man play safe.
easyriverman exactly what I was thinking.. cringed watching that.. I've had things shoot out of my press lol.
Your both fools.. its a manual press, your hands arent going to get injured unless you put your hand under the piston and start jacking
@@YeeThirty Presses are known for making the things they are pressing explode.

First thing we were taught in machinist class is don't trust a caliper at anything under .010". Use a micrometer.
Omg a press that's never been used lol Love TH-cam

How many tons is the press ?
We use a 20 ton press.
What is This fixchar price
That's so wonderful that they're even teaching the brown folk how to wrench.
Looks to me on reassembly in press when finished the guy moves the conrod side to side .no bearing in bigend

Music not needed
Irritating background music 🎶
K&L jig is garbage you can get it closer with a strait edge on the crank throws , it’s useless on a honda tin can crank . Total waste of money
Why is it bad
Get rid of the press and music. Get a real press not Harbour fright junk.
Voodoo one a press is a press is it working for them yes so why they fuck do you care what brand it is
because that press does not have a built in dial gauge which gets the distance right so you dont press it too close and have to dismantle and start over.
Cheap tools are cheap tools. Not bad for a backyard shop. Not good for anything else.
@@skizzysmith One could always set up a dial indicator on the top of the piece being pressed....
of how many tons is the hydraulic press ?
20 tons
