How To Program A 2015 - 2016 Chevy Tahoe Remote Key Fob - Add A Chevrolet Smart Key DIY Tutorial

*This will only apply to Chevy Tahoe's that have a push button start ignition.
A new transmitter can be programmed to the vehicle when there is one recognized transmitter. To program, the vehicle must be off and all transmitters, both currently recognized and new, must be with you.
1. Remove the key from the recognized remote key fob.
2. Place the recognized remote key fob in the cupholder or passenger seat.
3. Insert the vehicle key into the key lock cylinder on the driver door handle. Then turn the key counterclockwise, to the unlock position, five times within 10 seconds. The Driver Information Center (DIC) displays READY FOR REMOTE#2, 3, 4, ETC.
4. Place the new remote key fob in the transmitter pocket/insert. Open the center console storage area and the storage tray. The transmitter pocket/insert is in front of the storage area next to the center console storage area between the driver and front passenger seats.
5. Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. When the remote key fob is learned, the DIC display will show that it is ready to program the next remote.
6. Remove the remote key fob from the transmitter pocket and press unlock or lock on the remote key fob. To program additional transmitters, repeat Steps 4-6. When all additional remote key fobs are programmed, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for approximately 12 seconds to exit programming mode.

Dealer wants $400 for the new key fob, and for programming it. Crazy. Key Fob cost range online is $40 to $115 [ is what I'm finding ].

Hey man I have a question. The key fob will not detect key fob unless I put it in the transmitter key slot, can I still program a new key?
Yes, it should program a long as it is detected in the transmitter pocket. Have you tried replacing the battery in the key fob?

some vehicles only show the messages for a few seconds - try just going off of the time
Same issue… turn key 5x exactly as in video and in owners manual and nothing comes up on the display.

Is it possible to program a fob that has already been programmed to another vehicle? I have my spare key fob from a vehicle that was wrecked.
No - these key fobs lock to a vehicle once programmed and need to be unlocked by someone with the correct equipment before they can be programmed to a different vehicle

We ran through all the steps suggested in the video but our new remote will not work. We do not have a key in the new remote Any suggestions ?
If you doing the procedure correctly and the new remote is not responding - there may just be an issue with the new remote

Some vehicles only show the message for a few seconds right when the door is opened or closed

How to you get the key to program to DRIVER number 1? My key says I am driver number 3. Juat trying to set the memory seats and stuff. TIA
You would need to erase all the fobs and then program them back in the order you want them to be - that procedure takes about 30 minutes

the video for that is below - you will need the working remotes far enough away from the vehicle so they can't be read to start the procedure. Keyed ignition?
unfortunately there is no manual way to program fobs for the Keyed ignition. You can program the ignition key though in many cases. You can find those instructions here www.programautokeys.com/classified/tahoe-browse-762.aspx
I did that but my truck wont start now it only let me on lock and lock any idea

I had to install a new battery and now every time I unlock my car it gives extra beeps . Anyone deal with this before

What my Chevy is not a push start button?
There is no manual way to program fobs for the non-push button start vehicles - it will require an automotive locksmith or dealership. You can program the ignition key in many cases yourselves though
