The best approach for this stuff is to talk about the merit of the product that’s being promoted instead of always comparing it to “something else”, it’s like the companies that compare their coolers to Yeti, they are by default making Yeti the standard and therefor the best cooked because they are using them as the standard for measure (even though their intent is the opposite). By comparing this kayak only to Hobie it’s vastly overlooking a lot of the benefits of what this kayak brings to the game overall. I understand that on TH-cam things like this generate more discussion and views, but this comparison leaves a lot to be discussed by simply pigeon holing it to a Hobie comparison. I love any innovation in the kayak fishing industry and what it means for us as anglers and consumers. It’s something that forces a new category definition or discussion and it also has huge implications for the overall industry and that’s something that’s very exciting and encouraging for the space. In a time when some people think that kayak fishing has plateaued or slowed down, these types of developments further illustrate that the industry is growing and the category is in great shape.
Exercise is a very important part of kayaking. Stay fit and paddle, peddle your kayak and get stronger for the Gideon. Thanks for Your videos, and work, You're a Good Brother. Stand Firm, Respect.
Ive been using a 30 pound trolling motor with a PWM speed controller on my Nucanoe Pursuit all last season with a 12v 35ah wheelchair battery. With normal use with a little bit of throttle from spot to spot I get a full 8 hours of fishing. The speed controller really helps battery life, trolling motors with the stock hand switch are very in-efficient as they draw max power from the battery even when at low speed. Im glad these kayaks are coming out so now more kayak tournaments will allow motors and people will stop asking me .....why?. Dont forget these things will need to get registered, great vid.
Yo Yakpak, I've priced out the Hobie 360 and it is $800.00 more than the Old Town AutoPilot 120. That's why Old Town is the Standard Bearer for Fishing Kayaks. That is also why come Spring of 2021 I'll be getting me an AutoPilot 120 Powered by Minn Kota
I Like how the sit is higher. Usually, I can't kayak for a long time cause my back but with a higher sit like this, I think I can manage longer in this kayak.
Thank you for the video. I have the 106 with the throttle coming in November. Hoped to have it sooner but I can't wait to use it next year. This made me want it even more.
I could sound crazy but the second one sound like a good kayak to buy wether you’re buying your first kayak or a new one, my experience never buy something cheap especially if you’re trying to fish, my opinion spend 650+ on a nice yak if you’re going to fish or camp because you want something nice and stable!
Stepped up to a das-king kratos. Awesome yak , nothing better than fishing for whatever bites , can not wait until the weather warms up. Whatever kayak you choose make sure to use a pfd , and don't over do it with the add-on after market toys, keep it simple and have fun!!👍 👍 🇨🇦
I bought the 106 mk & put the panoptix livescope on it because I had a extra transducer , I love it but I keep getting thrown out of ponds lol. Always someone telling you that you can’t do something lol. Fishing is apparently a crime 😂
I feel like the auto-pilot trolling on a kayak is like using a jet-pack for mountain climbing. It sort of takes some of the sport out of kayak fishing. It's a cool advancement in kayak tech, just not my personal cup of tea.
Don't feel that way, I had an inflatable Sea Eagle lean mean fishing machine for around ten years until i mistreated it and didn't put it up for the winter. I think the seams started to leak I am in a Bonafide RS 117 Kayak now. Still would like to have a small boat to put my trolling motor on.
If you had to pick would you buy the Autopilot minnkota or the throttle control minnkota? I’m buying one this weekend and would really appreciate your help. Any good add on seats ect?
Oregon treats and charges a boat with a motor differently than a kayak. I could put a motor on my Pro 14, but then I would have to deal with the State. And they already suck enough money out of me. Pedal drive is nice and reverse is less complicated than Hobie (and I don't have reverse on my Pro 14) but my boat is every bit as stable and more room and storage. Nice quick clean reviews; and good solid kayaks, "to each his own" said the old lady, as she kissed the cow." Well done review.
My first 'Yak was an Old Town (Good Quality). Before buying, I looked at Old Town, Hobie, and Native brands. (Tried all three and liked them, but got the best "DEAL" by trading my 'Yak in on a Titan!). Love your channel.... (Us Vets have to Stick Together!)
Hello, the first boat with trolling motor is something I am very interested in. The lake I enjoy kayak fishing has a lot of trees in the water. I don’t always see the trees and have gotten stuck before. What happens to motor if it hits a submerged tree?
Is it possible to install a solar panel close to where the battery is located in order to keep a constant charge on the battery and never run out of power?
yeah its definitely not worth it if your just looking to start inshore fishing you could get a 2 bass boats for that price its mostly a luxury for not having to deal with the hassles of a boat (storing it, boat having problems, getting it in the water ,etc)
The hefty price tag is the trolling motor. I have the ulterra trolling motor on my boat and for an 80 lbs thrust motor it cost around $2500 but that motor links to GPS and it links to compatible fish finders that really takes fishing to that next level. Most of the guys that buy this wont buy it as a substitute for a bass boat but yet an addition to the fishing arsenal.
I agree with you, but it makes sense for someone that is younger, doesn't have a house and live in apartments, or even not necessary younger. It really does make sense for someone who has limited space to store things or park.
Think this kayak is suppose to be for the ones focusing on the hobie 360 not the other ones. 360 is over 4000 dollars where this one is under that price point and also gives you hands free spot lock. Which for bass fisherman is like a must have in a lot of cases.
I live in the Philippine Islands. I'm looking for a tandem saltwater Kayak for fishing. Does Old Town have a supplier in Asia? A kayak that supports a MinnKota with stop lock.
YakPak I would love to have the kayak with spot lock. That would be the one I would use on the daily. It would be the perfect bass boat for what I want fishing here in West Central Florida.
I’ve heard about this one but the two I have is I have the native slayer 12 propel max and then I also have a hobie pro angler 14 both of them I have fully loaded with the torqueedo motors I love my hobie more for big water rougher water cause it’s very wide now my slayer is great for anywhere but the standing can b done just not as steady as the hobie is but hey great video
Somewhat agree but my hobie pro angler 14ft is wide as hell and is wider than the slayer or the Titan but the Titan and slayer are still wide but they are very sturdy I agree that’s why I have both 😂
Had the choice between an autopilot 136 and a Hobie 360, and I ended up going with the 360. The Navarre Fishing video on the 136 was one of the many reasons. Spot lock is cool, but it doesn't make up for all the other issues.
Great kayak reviews! Anyone that’s not hungry for one of these boats is crazy. Question, does that remote float? And does one come with the smaller trolling motor kayak?
The location of the trolling motor is not ideal on AP. It takes a lot of space in the cockpit. It's already cramped and heavy. Pro angler with bixpy is better choice. Bixpy rests flush on the mirage drive and does not take any cockpit space. Hobie who? Lol.
Dude first time watching and I'm happy to see someone else likes the discovery kayak/canoe combo i almost bought it but I found a VanHunks pedal kayak in Sarasota but now that I saw the autopilot kayak I want one soon I'll have to sell mine first but for my physical abilities that kayak would be better. Cool channel so far too
Could you recommend something for a newbie looking to spend 1000-1200 yak paddle and pfd? I'll be moving to Tampa Florida area. Seems to have all type of water. So ideally something somewhat universal. Thanks
awesome video , so i see that you went with the 106 for the tournament ,, was that your choice or was the autopilot already spoken for ? the reason im asking is im seriously looking at these and looking for help with my decision ,, is the auto really worth the extra grand or can I do just as good with the 106 ,, help a brother out ,, cool video bro
The 127 is great, just doesn’t have a motor. After using these basically this whole year, I couldn’t see myself using anything else. These trolling motors truly are game changing.
@@FishingWithYakPak damn thanks for replying bro. So considering I’m not interested in a motor, the Bonafide is as stable and efficient as these? And do you have any experience with the wilderness systems recon or Atak?

That autopilot is my dream yak 🙌🏼 seriously looking at getting one. After seeing the second one you tested I may need to wait and get that one instead....heck, I’ll just get both eventually 😂
I wouldnt purchase them both unless you need two kayaks for the wife, kid or friend. You will enjoy the peddle kayak and it will only make you want to upgrade right away! So I recommend that you wait and just get the big purchase when you ready.
No I love my 13.5, for me when I stand in it stability is fine but I’m also short at only 5’5” lol and the rear trolling motor is great, scoots along nicely
I was considering this yak until I saw the amount of water that gets in, relying on a battery that you cants even go 4mph without draining it the first 30 min, no battery and just more maintenance than a regular pedal yak, but to each their own!
Pshhh your foot wear is on point mann, damn that comment. I stop watching so many videos in the first few seconds because of gross, nasty ass feet showing. No one wants to look at fat hairy toes while watching a kayak and fishing video, It’s utterly disgusting. I love all videos where the narrator covers their feet. Be it shoes, crocks or whatever. Far as I’m concerned no one should be making these videos with their gross feet showing.
Personally I REALLY like the 106 PBMK. But for inshore/offshore taking into consideration the wind/waves/current, the AutoPilot is impossible to beat. I do just fine inshore with my 106 Powered By Minn Kota but I haven’t taken it offshore yet. I have surf launched it in about 3-5ft rollers while beach shark fishing and it handles just fine.
I fish a gated community 300 acre lake frequently. I just sold my boat that I used on that lake. I also have a wilderness Atak 140 that I'm contemplating selling to buy an auto pilot 136. The only thing stopping me is the cost to replace the Minkota when it quits. And it will, eventually have trouble. Maybe 5, 6 or 8 yrs from now...hopefully, but the cost of an ipilot replacement that's 100% specific to the old town is what I don't know? They don't even make a 45lb thrust ipilot except for this specific one for Old town. So do you have any idea what that would be? A 55lb ipilot is app. $1,500 is that in the ball park? Or will Old town charge me $2,500 to replace it when it gets tired? Investing $4,000 in a kayak is a difficult decision.
R H great question! The motor comes with a 2yr warranty and the hull has a lifetime warranty. I’m going to do some digging and ask that exact question to my guy at Old Town. I’m glad you asked that because for some reason, I never did. Thanks for bringing that up!! I’ll get back to you when they get back to me.
Hey man just wanted to shoot ya an update. Got word back from my guy at Old Town and this is verbatim what he was told by the guys higher up: Covered by warranty for two years. Sorry we can’t project pricing out for multiple years down the road, but we make every effort to keep our replacement parts as affordable as possible. The motor is a significant part of the cost, but many replacement parts will be available as needed, so it’s more likely you will need to replace parts of the drive, vs the entire system.
In that many years that trolling motor and kayak are both going to be dated anyways. Don't think you have to worry too much about the motor compatability in the future.

Thanks for the video 👍 my buddy is in the process of Patterning a solar sail for Kayaks. So far it works perfect….
Seems cool. In the state I live in, that kayak would be consider a motorized vassal. So Dmv registration is required.
Exercise is a very important part of kayaking. Stay fit and paddle, peddle your kayak and get stronger for the Gideon. Thanks for Your videos, and work, You're a Good Brother. Stand Firm, Respect.
uhh, what is "the gideon"?
When I got spot lock on my boat I didn’t think it could get any better. Well Old Town done gone and blew my mind again. Can’t wait to get mine.
Are you getting an autopilot? Thought I heard you say you'd be getting a new kayak
Mikey Watt I am. Mine was ordered today should be here first week of April.
Alex Rudd Fishing spotlock with poles = game changer. They work way too good together
How does the battery hold up using the spot lock?
Ive been using a 30 pound trolling motor with a PWM speed controller on my Nucanoe Pursuit all last season with a 12v 35ah wheelchair battery. Where I live I would have to register these motorized yaks as a boat I can do with out the electric motors
Damn Old Town is changing the game! Glad theyre in the business.
Totally unbiased review. Old Town hat and all 😂
I just got a saranac 160 canoe. I'm enjoying every minute !
I've had 4 big boats and this kayak is way more fun to be on!
I feel like the auto-pilot trolling on a kayak is like using a jet-pack for mountain climbing. It sort of takes some of the sport out of kayak fishing. It's a cool advancement in kayak tech, just not my personal cup of tea.
Got to love OLD TOWN
Still embarrassed to say my kayak had to be inflated. Still works though. If I had the cash I would by that 106 on a heartbeat. Fish on👍👌😊
Don't feel that way, I had an inflatable Sea Eagle lean mean fishing machine for around ten years until i mistreated it and didn't put it up for the winter. I think the seams started to leak I am in a Bonafide RS 117 Kayak now. Still would like to have a small boat to put my trolling motor on.

Awesome video, glad you are part of the Old Town family!
Do you think the old Town 136 autopilot is good for saltwater or hobie for saltwater I live in Miami Florida
Finally found the video I was looking for
Its time to work overtime 🤣🤣
Is it possible to install a solar panel close to where the battery is located in order to keep a constant charge on the battery and never run out of power?
Yea but it's like 5-6k for everything. Just get a boat that price range and you can at least bring a friend or two.
I haven’t looked at the price of it, but if it’s really $5-6k, I agree, it’s absolutely not worth it.
Yeah absolutely insanely expensive. Guess I'll keep on paddling
yeah its definitely not worth it if your just looking to start inshore fishing you could get a 2 bass boats for that price its mostly a luxury for not having to deal with the hassles of a boat (storing it, boat having problems, getting it in the water ,etc)

Only thing I wonder about is fishing in pads and surface grass... I sure would to have one though. What a sweet combo, old town and minkota! 🎣👍😎🎣🥳😸
What size seal are you using, 3/16" or 1/4"?

Great preview of the different kayaks 👍 too many choices for me lol
Cool video. What’s the length of your rod, is that 5 foot?
“...well don’t cast like that.” Lol
😆😆🤣
Quote of the video no doubt lol!
💀💀💀💀💀💀
YakPak I would love to have the kayak with spot lock. That would be the one I would use on the daily. It would be the perfect bass boat for what I want fishing here in West Central Florida.
Awsome video enjoyed it good job
Wow just checked out their website. Those prices aren't bad at all.
The one that turns with pedals I'd want spot lock with a remote also
I’ve heard about this one but the two I have is I have the native slayer 12 propel max and then I also have a hobie pro angler 14 both of them I have fully loaded with the torqueedo motors I love my hobie more for big water rougher water cause it’s very wide now my slayer is great for anywhere but the standing can b done just not as steady as the hobie is but hey great video
Titans, I've found, are a LOT steadier when standing, than any of them (and they turn tighter, too!)
Somewhat agree but my hobie pro angler 14ft is wide as hell and is wider than the slayer or the Titan but the Titan and slayer are still wide but they are very sturdy I agree that’s why I have both 😂
And yes my slayer omg yea that thing turns very very well
Love your videos brother keep up the work

Can you review the 133x ascend with a trolling motor please?

Yeah if i had the money those would be amazing, but it's hard to find a spare 3-4k for anything, let alone a kayak.
It’s weird how it’s a mindset, read Rich dad, poor dad. I’m finding it hard to have a spare 30-40k for a small bass boat.
Ahhh man I'm still at work . I know it's fire though 🤙
I wonder why headwater kayaks don't promote these yaks. I have the 106 10' and love it.
Cool channel so far too
Michael Rodriguez thanks Michael 👊🏼😁
Michael Rodriguez the discovery is an awesome hybrid canoe. Lots of cool adventures could definitely be had out of that bad boy
My first time watching too
No horizontal rod storage? What happens when prop or motor slams into shallow log or rock?
Banger brother can't wait for the next one....dud someone win the hat already ? I need one autographed
Those are nice ones I need to up my game
What if your kayak were to flip will it still function?
Guess it depends on how the battery is held and stored in the kayak. Flipping your kayak back over is your first problem.
Does it come with the battery?
I love kayaking and I hope to make kayak videos on my channel
Could you recommend something for a newbie looking to spend 1000-1200 yak paddle and pfd? I'll be moving to Tampa Florida area. Seems to have all type of water. So ideally something somewhat universal. Thanks
feel free lure
Very informative! Subbing
For small shallow rivers with grass patches it would be useless. But it is nice for your type of fishing.
Good Review Yak
Looks awesome
awesome video , so i see that you went with the 106 for the tournament ,, was that your choice or was the autopilot already spoken for ? the reason im asking is im seriously looking at these and looking for help with my decision ,, is the auto really worth the extra grand or can I do just as good with the 106 ,, help a brother out ,, cool video bro
Yo love your channel! Wondering how you compare these to the Bonafide SS127?
The 127 is great, just doesn’t have a motor. After using these basically this whole year, I couldn’t see myself using anything else. These trolling motors truly are game changing.
@@FishingWithYakPak damn thanks for replying bro. So considering I’m not interested in a motor, the Bonafide is as stable and efficient as these? And do you have any experience with the wilderness systems recon or Atak?
Chad said it. Don't compare it to Hobie alone. Try comparing it to all other major brands. Especially one that has been using motors for years. Old Town isn't the first ttop pot a motor on a yak. OT did take it to a different level but for my opinion and my opinion only, it's proprietary. To bad you can't choose to paddle, pedal, or power the same yak. Im not buying 3 different yaks because I changed my mind on propulsion this weekend. As we say in the sport of kayak fishing, DEMO anything that interests you.
Wesley Nowlen after reading what Chad wrote it really made a lot of sense to me. I never thought of it the way he broke it down. Both of you have great points and from now on I will be more cognizant about how I do videos like these. Thanks for watching!
A lot of kayak tournament groups don’t allow trolling motor powered kayaks. And honestly I’m glad they don’t 😂
Garrett Grant in KBF you can fish with a Torqueedo, no?
Fishing With YakPak no idea. I fish a local group here in southeast Kansas and I know a lot of the bigger groups even don’t allow them.
Those are straight 🔥✌🤘👊
I have the PDL!! Love it! Made an hour North of me here in Maine
So I recommend that you wait and just get the big purchase when you ready.
the 106 is like a newer version of my ocean kayak torque and i’m going 4 mph in it
That autopilot would probably be the only kayak that could get me out of my FeelFree lure 13.5 with a rear mounted trolling motor
No I love my 13.5, for me when I stand in it stability is fine but I’m also short at only 5’5” lol and the rear trolling motor is great, scoots along nicely
Isn't that the area that one dude caught that giant grouper?
You think the I pilot would work here in Hawaii with larger swells?
Gonna murk the battery in no time and be left paddling that 5k worth of kayak lol
Bad ass bro. You look so natural on a kayak 👀
I need that auto pilot in my life
th-cam.com/video/k_OpRlUZQoI/w-d-xo.html
I am still trying to figure out how these kayak companies are justifying the cost of the kayaks.
They changed the game!
Neat, sadly I can’t use it. :(
I was considering this yak until I saw the amount of water that gets in, relying on a battery that you cants even go 4mph without draining it the first 30 min, no battery and just more maintenance than a regular pedal yak, but to each their own!
Battery drains in 30min? If yes, that’s horrible.
Do you have to have a registration
Wish the seats had armrests like the hobie pa

jonny bass 100 kayak looks the same but you can put a gas motor on jonny bass100 kayak so id go with the jonny bass 100 kayak
Does the motor made for salt water
I am considering becoming a dealer for Old Town and enjoyed your video. Which Old town would you use for off shore/inshore fishing ?
Personally I REALLY like the 106 PBMK. But for inshore/offshore taking into consideration the wind/waves/current, the AutoPilot is impossible to beat. I do just fine inshore with my 106 Powered By Minn Kota but I haven’t taken it offshore yet. I have surf launched it in about 3-5ft rollers while beach shark fishing and it handles just fine.
What is spot lock?
thats mad funny now give it to me
wait so the old town with the autopilot is still cheaper than a hobie? GODDAMN
I kayak a lot of smaller rivers and creeks here in southwest Mississippi how low does the trolling motor ride in the water?
It’s super super smooth. And if you go through skinny water you can easily pull it up in like a “quick pull” type system.
Wish me luck for the M3 baitcaster!!! Lol
I never knew you duck hunted do you do any hunting now if you do you should do a video on it
Way back before TH-cam. That was back when I was stationed in Texas lol. Used to have so much fun duck hunting.
Dude oh my god imagine the sneak holes 🤯
20 of 47 Old Town yaks cost more than my used 16 foot bass boat... to each their own I suppose.
Got word back from my guy at Old Town and this is verbatim what he was told by the guys higher up:
Covered by warranty for two years. Sorry we can’t project pricing out for multiple years down the road, but we make every effort to keep our replacement parts as affordable as possible. The motor is a significant part of the cost, but many replacement parts will be available as needed, so it’s more likely you will need to replace parts of the drive, vs the entire system.
@@FishingWithYakPak Greatly appreciate your effort and response. This is one example of how TH-cam is designed to help others. Thank you.
R H not a problem at all 👊🏼😁
In that many years that trolling motor and kayak are both going to be dated anyways. Don't think you have to worry too much about the motor compatability in the future.
Bro I think that my 128t holds the title for the most awesome kayak ever
LOL yeah for $4000 it had better be the best kayak :)
Yeah, he said "you don't even need a bass boat", but then you need $4k for a hunk of plastic and a trolling motor.
Do you need a boat license for that?
