Just picked up the 106Mk. I’m fired up! Bought it for the smaller footprint compared to the Autopilot. I’ll still be able to paddle it in some non motorized lakes I fish. Plus, I can toss it around quite easily although it’s a heavy beast.
Great review! One question though, I see that the foot pedals are for steering but are they designed so that different height people cand still adjust them without having to play with the steering cable lengths? Thanks!
Great review of a great kayak! Ive had my 106 for almost a year and love all features. Although my battery indicator lights dont seem to work. Maybe Old Town will send me a new throttle? Hey, you never notice how us 106 owners seem to be the envy of all types of anglers and onlookers when they see what it can do? Love it.
Cool video for sure. I have the 136 I pilot which is amazing. Plus I got it brand new with some shipping scratches for 2500 out the door. If they would have had a 106 I might have bought it. I didn't know you can't steer the 106 so guess I'm happy I got the 136.
Nice review… i like the auto pilot as well but 10’6 might be able to fit in my van. My riot mako (10’4”) fits in, I wonder if those extra 2” will give me trouble.
I have a question. Does this kyak have the option to use the Old Town Sportsman Pedal system with this kayak, if its purchased separately, I'd like to have both options.
I'm running a river in south MS "Leaf River". It has long stretches of lake like flat water with the occasional soap stone rapids. Would it be feasible to lift the drive unit and rudder up when tackling these shallow rapids like a normal kayak and then switching back to the powered mode to tackle the flat areas?
I thought that too but both the propeller and transducer only stick down a little. Ive been in 1-2 ft of water no problem. Still gotta watch for rocks tho
The Xi3 was worth every penny and turns an already great kayak into a higher level. The problem I had with the stock motor was weeds . I fish in small weed choked lakes in Ohio and it’s a struggle to raise the motor through the narrow opening . I did however have to put one way scupper plugs in the deck because of the added 40 # weight on the bow
Great review! How do you load/unload/haul this little yak? I run an Ascend 10t and lift/haul in the back of my truck. I use the wheels to get to my launch point-you trailer yours? Thanks again!
Nice and thanks! I have a trailer and launch the kayak like a boat. I did the whole roof top set up and noticed it just could too long, especially after a long days out.
I bought a 12 dollar meter off Amazon and installed it on the battery box. Easy fix. Not that I really need it. I have had my mk out in the Chesapeake for 10 hour runs motor never off and still plenty of juice left and my lithium is an Amazon special
Thank you for this review! I'm seriously thinking of this kayak over all others. One question though: In this video, when you're showing the battery meter, I can read 'Meter Not Compatible With Lithium Ion Batteries', but you are using just that - the Dakota Lithium 12v 100AH. Any issues with that? The battery meter is incredibly handy, so I'd hate to be without such a nifty feature. Ideally, I would go with that same battery too. I do hope you reply here on this. Thank you in advance!
Yea so the battery reader only works with lead acid because the power slowly goes down where with lithium the battery will do 100% power until it dies! So unfortunately the reader doesn't read lithium. But honestly the battery just lasts for so long, I never have an issue! Never killed it and been out for 8 plus hours! Also depends how you use it (fighting wind, always full throttle, etc) I still highly recommend both products :)
This is an easy one for the battery! I have the amped out doors lithium ion 100ah. Fricen love it! I just use my phone and the Bluetooth battery tracker I bought on Amazon for the battery! It’s pretty accurate and has been great so far! It’s easy to install and just velcros inside the battery box on top of the battery!
Question, I was told this kayak can’t go in reverse is that incorrect? In your video you said forward and reverse on throttle. Could you let me know if it truly does go in reverse.
Nice! & yes that will work. I use a Dakota Lithium 12v 100amp. Its great cuz this kayak can use lead acid or lithium, its just depends how much to want to spend and how long you want the battery to last!
