      Bummer. I have the PA14 with the 180 Drive. So far, no issues. I was going to get the 360 but each time I looked at one there was a stack of 360 drives at the dealer waiting for repair. I loved the layout of the PA14 and decided to go with the 180, glad I did. If you went to Sun Valley Sports in Indy, please reach out to me and will share my experiences with them. Not to much of it positive since their move.

      I like my 2021 hobie pro angler 14 360. I already put too much time and money in to it. So far no problem with it. Instead of buying another kayak. I'm just going to put a motorguide xi3 to it, so I don't have to use the 360 drive.

    You are going in the right direction OldTown is the absolute best. Warranty is the best. Hobie has been sold. It's not even the same company. Dump em. I have a 120 auto pilot. The replaced the trolling motor within 5 days and it was 6 months out of warranty. Why not an OldTown. None better for reliability or warranty. End of story.

    Also like to mention that by law there should be a safety recall on this as people could be placed into danger situations on the water if they can't maneuver their kayak. I get that you should have a paddle in case of emergency but some people aren't strong paddlers or all their energy is spent from fishing all day that they don't have the energy to paddle, especially in high winds or long distance. Clearly it's a defect on the product as it's becoming a common issue.

  • @andrewmoore3995

    Thank you so much for posting this video. We need more videos like this. It seems like every industry these days just keep making cuts in quality and selling customers inferior products with no hesitation to put more money in their pockets. As a consumer I try to shine light on all the garbage that's being put out while at the same time praising companies that make great quality products. Also praising companies that stand by their products and offer long or lifetime warranty. Nothing worse then investing hundreds, even thousands into products and have them break right after the one or two year warranty is up. We as the consumers can't let them get away with it and need to expose the industries more often.

    I'm fortunate since I got into kayaking through a place that only rents out old towns. When I decided to look into other options there was something off w/ all of them...the slayer was the next best but even that seemed more expensive and less stable...plus once I decided I wanted a fish finder I was able to install the helix 5 sonar into mine easily w/ no drilling. The one time I needed to call them was my own fault and the propeller (I have a pedal kayak) needed a part replaced. They sent it out quickly for a few bucks. TLDR can't recommend old town kayaks enough...plus the pedal drive is awesome and easy to go backwards or pull up to clear out grass...can't say I'd consider going w/ another brand at this point...also I can't imagine fishing w/ out a pedal kayak lol...CHEERS :)

    I def agree with you guys. Ive been lucky so far with my 360. The belt has only broke once and took 2 months to get. I actually got another one off of amazon before Hobie sent one out. The problem I have is that when the 360 is working there's no other kayak that performs like it. I fish shallow rivers and always hit logs or rocks, so the prop drives worry me. I still have one more season under warranty and will prolly sell it. I may either just get another one or move on to another brand.

  • @United_By_Water
    @United_By_Water ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I totally get the peddle drive/trolling motor crazy but relying solely on my arms to get me from A-B is what I love about paddling. Nothing is going to break and I have zero maintenance. I get that not everybody has this ability and anything that assists with getting folks on the water is awesome...to each their own.

    • @jdock32778
      @jdock32778 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. I did a heck of a lot of research. I'm surprised Hobie hasn't fixed the 360. I'm in my 60's so kayak weight is an issue. I'll skip the motors and drives. A kayak paddle works great for me. I did get a lightweight Werner graphite paddle. For me, the absolute best kayaks are from Crescent, 100% USA. The hull design, tracking, ease of paddling are the best. My wife has the UltraLite and I have the LiteTackle. Read up and TH-cam the Crescent kayak company. EDIT.. I forgot to add, I fish for largemouth bass here in the south. All catch & release.

    Jackson Knarr has been my golden goose! I will say, a good prop drive is fucking sweet, apart from weeds.
    Hobie was bought by investors who have no reason being into kayaks other than profit, and have run down the business.
    Hobie is refusing fair warranty claims which is really bad news, fantastic products when they work, but you need to have a local dealer to help you if ANYTHING happens.

    Hobie has frustrated me this year. I’ve done millions of views for them and never asked for anything. I’ve supported their dealer events and made filmed free content the’ve use for ads and still I never asked for anything. I personally spent $15,000+ on Hobie kayaks in last few years. I finally asked Hobie for a newer 180 kick up drive so I could continue creating content and show off a cool new Hobie fishing setup no one has seen in the world. Since July I’ve gone back and forth with their rep and they claim they are sending but then they don’t. I reach out again to them and no response. Yet they will give entire boats to their pro staff who I guarantee haven’t driven near as many sales. I have driven $200,000+ in sales in two week periods for kayak companies and companies selling fishing products. If Hobie treats me this way I can’t image a basic customer getting any customer service. I try to stay non-bias and show all brands. I use what I use.

    I'm sorry that you guys have had soo much trouble with the Hobie 360. I had been looking at Hobie but it was more than what I wanted to spend. I cannot give enough credit to Bonafide. I have been using my SS107 for the last 3 years and I really enjoy it. It doesn't have the pedal system but I have decked it out pretty well.

    I couldn’t talk myself into getting a new Hobie PA I just kept coming back to the fact I could get a 2 year old Outback FULLY loaded at half price. Also the fact that any gen drive will work if the md180 fails…apart from the 360 of course 🤷‍♂️

    Kayaks are cool but i like my 25 year old Creek boat. It's the size of a kayak but more stable. It has a live well and an electric motor. Steering is done with your feet on pedals. Speed control is next to the seat. Hands are free for fishing.

    Do you guys fish in alot of shallow grassy areas? My main lake is all grass and 3-4 feet of water in a big part of the lake I fish. I feel like the Hobie's drive would actually be useable in that lake and the peddle drives in the old town or Native's would have to be stowed away. Thoughts?

    Preach it bruthas! I'm tired of hearing YT'ers that 'pedal' their b.s. of 3k yaks being budget or accepting of short life expectancy. Walmart bicycles last longer. Old Town and Native are probably my only trusted brands for pedal.

    Just subscribed and so glad I ran into this channel. Plan on purchasing my first fishing kayak come Spring.
    Any recommendations for an ocean kayak? Retired and thought a sailing kayak would be great for deep water or ocean fishing. Also thought it might be fun for grandkids. Or does anyone have recommendations for a regular one seater kayak that does well with deep water?
    Will look at past videos as well.

    Interesting info guys. Even though I'm a Stealth kayak fisherman, most of my fishing buddies are on Hobies and some of these issues are playing out over here in Okinawa. Anyway, the main reason for my comment is: Paul's vest- it looks great - what make is it? Cheers and tight lines on your new yaks.

    Can’t speak for the 360’s. Love my Lynx, got it for the light weight. Does great on my local rivers and the 180 drive has been rock solid. My 2015 outback is still going strong and that works great as my off shore rig. It doesn’t see as much action these days as the Lynx fits a lot of roles.
    Been looking at their inflatables for river use as they fit light weight bring less role.
    I think that Hobie relies on their past and name a bit too much. Do your research and get the yak that works for you and what waters you fish. For me, I love the 180 drive and lightweight of the lynx. Did I pay for it? Oh yeah. But it works for me.
    That 360 drive seems like a nightmare, waaay too many problems in a short amount of time.

    I personally would have a hard time getting rid of my PA but I also am using a mirage drive and not had anything close to the experience you guys have had. That being said, I would say that the Old Town Sportsman series for a peddle drive or a Crescent Shoalie for paddle only would be my next choice.

    I was all set to buy myself a PA14 and I was aware of drive (with both drives) and hull problems, but it really hit how bad it is when I ended up in another kayak shop and they told me that they were backlogged with hull replacements from the few Pro Anglers that they sold and mentioned they didn't even plan to stock them in the future. To put this in perspective, they only ever stocked one at a time and each one probably sat in the showroom for a few months as well. Add that with all the horror stories with Hobie not honoring the warranty and that turned me off.
    However, my final decision wasn't made by the issues from the Pro Angler, but it was made when I demo'd the Old Town Bigwater 132 PDL - it was easily the fastest kayak that I demo'd so while I don't have the setup of a PA14, I get place to place faster and it's a lot more fun to pedal. Being old and out of shape, I can pedal it 4mph for miles, and I bet once I start getting out regularly that might increase to 5.

    I took one look at the complexity and the over-engineering that typically goes into the drive and said "oh hell no". The slam dunk for me was the the "rail system" again gear track is so simple and so easy to work with why would I want to start with a 35.00 clamp for every accessory to use the rail? So ya natives drive is very solid and simple. You can buy all the parts directly from Native and fix everything your self. Easy decision.

    I just got into kayaking. I really wanted one with a pedal drive, but the price was a barrier for me. The reason pice was an issue was I wanted to buy 3 kayaks. I went with ascend fs10 kayaks. Time will tell, but happy so far. For a lot less than a hobie with pedal drive, I bought 3 kayaks for family. I got these for $100 off at bass pro and I am in about $1200 for the 3. No maintenance really with these, just paddle and go

    I have a 2019 predator and it's a beast. I fish off a 136 autopilot right now and i still miss my predator sometimes because of the instant reverse. I was going to buy the 360 PA im so glad i didn't. I Think if i was goiong to buy a kayak right now it would be the ePDL bigwater. The safety of having a pedal drive as a back up would be too much for me to pass up even though i've never gotten even to 50% of a 100ah battery in a full day of fishing.

    I’m curious what year were your 360’s? I’ve read a lot of the first-second year boats had these issues but since have been ironed out. The 2024 model even has the belt tension assembly exposed (which I find odd if not a bad decision) but the claim is it improves self serviceability for maintenance/adjustment. I’m leaning more towards a Lynx or possibly a PA14 180 but the dream has been a 360.

    I had an older pro angler and it was my least favorite kayak. I only had the mirage v2 drive so no 180, the steering sucked, it didnt track well (even with the skeg), and the thing was just entirely too big. I took it to one of my usual spots in the Chesapeake Bay on a decent day and the pedal back was just awful, the kayak sits too high in the water so wind and chop made it more difficult than it needs to be. That trip is usually an hour out and an hour back, it took me over 3 hours to get back. I got rid of it after that. I think its a good idea to try other brands, I dont know about newer hobies but i know several guys who have had a bunch of problems with their 360s as well as the 180.

    • @Corona2172
      @Corona2172 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We use my gf's 2010 Honda Accord with 2 inflatable racks bought at cabellas. We have 2 ascend 10t kayaks (intend to get nicer kayaks this year) that we stack one on top of the other and ratchet strap through the car. It's a coupe and still works like a dream. So don't limit yourself due to lack of a truck. If you've got a car, get a couple of inflatable roof racks. They handle a ton of weight and, with proper tie downs, won't move hardly at all.

    Here is the problem, human power is been on its way out..
    Consumers are more an more going electric power. The new tech for the hobie drive is to complicated, period!
    Hobie needs to focus on a boat like the nucanoe unlimited or bonafide pwd 129 that people can build the way they want
