Russ, Espai Bici is my LBS and in case you have not met 'the Frenchman' behind the counter yet, be assured his English, even his technical bike speak, is fluent. And yes Barna is Brommie' central, check out Cap Problema - not far from Espai Bici - that exclusively sells and repairs Bromptons and is run by the coolest bunch of dark maned Catalan dudes ever. Welcome to the neighbourhood btw.
Yes, ESPAI BICI is the most complete "alt" bike shop in Catalonia, and yes they speak english :) Check also "Castells bicicletes" C/Girona, 39, near E. B. for nice selection of alt bicis 👍🏼
Yeah, I'm hoping Russ will do an Espai Bici visit. I love MBP and went there often when I first moved to BCN. But once I found Espai Bici it became my #1 shop ... and I feel like it fits the Path Less Pedaled vibe better. Also in addition to Cap Problema, La Fuga is also nearby and a great spot for some bici-inspired coffee or pasta!
Love the light set up, I used to work as a photographer and used flash and continuous light. The light you bought looks compact and natural, I wish you well using it.
Love when you say you want a Brompton, since I discovered this channel from the Brompton content you posted way back. Those videos are still fantastic!
I just love my Pelago Hanko Outback. I bought it while I was living in Finland and brought it back with me to the US. If you ever make your way up to Finland (I think you'd really enjoy some summer biking treks up there!), their shop in Helsinki is worth a stop.
Russ, I love this part of Barcelona. The Orbea Campus store is real close by. I have never seen so many Bromptons in one place but that's becoz everyone lives in Apartments.
Wish i could help yall with the spanish. Easiest way is to start with the food and how to cook it. Knowing how to eat out there is huge. Stoked to see more shops!
Hello Russ! I've been a fan of yur channel since years ago,, i'm currently living in Barcelona and there is a lot of good routes here really nearby the city for road bikes, I know you are more a trail person than a roadie but I bet you will enjoy them. I highly recommend you to do a ride on the Collserola natural park which is my personal favorite and also climbing to the Tibidabo, the stunning view of the whole city is a must. Greetings and keep the party pace on!
There are some tourists who'll search for a Starbucks or a McD's in the city they're visiting. Those are the touches of home that they miss most. The PLP crew looks for bike shops with familiar brands. That's my kind of travelling!
Thanks for keeping us in the loop as you set up your new life. Your reference to Pelago prompted me to check them out. A Stavanger frameset review must be on the cards?
Lovely to watch you guys setting up home in what is rapidly becoming my favourite holiday destination from here in the UK. I drove down to Girona twice this year, and am planning to head back again next spring. Maybe catch you on a trail or in a coffee shop then?
Interesting what happened to the Eroica caffe?? Still, nice to see it is continuing as a biking oasis and thanks for taking us along for your trip! Barçelona is a beautiful place and maybe once you are settled you might venture down the coast some weekend to another beautiful city where my wife comes from, Valencia.
That Spanish bike shop seemed a bit more practical than the US bike shops. Long lasting steel bikes and not the carbon fiber racing bikes I guess when you have a climate and culture where people bike every day, it changes what they peddle.
Hey Russ, congrats no your move to Spain. I know you are in for the long haul when I saw you bought the grocery store trolley. Lol. FYI we briefly met during your visit to Rivendell. In addition to living near Rivendell, I also have an apartment in Barceloneta district of Barcelona. I haven't watched all your Spain videos yet but just an FYI on the high speed train you are allowed to carry on a folding bike (only) which is one of the reasons I bring my folders whenever I'm in town. Feel free to contact me if you ever have any questions about the area and it's people or places to grab a bite. In addition I've ridden parts of the Camino pilgrimage (Frances Route). I've also got a few videos up on my channel that might help out. Final thought, don't be continually confused just take it all in like a sponge, have a vermut (Spanish for vermouth), stay away for pickpockets and keep an open mind. Only rule of thumb..... never call anyone in Catalonia a Spaniard. That's just asking for trouble. Happy trails!
Interesting to see some studio lighting nerddary! Nice kit. I guess the head must be daylight balanced so you can use the ambient daylight as a fill, so long as the main light isn't too bright?
Love the Pelago? We need an intercontinental marriage of quality bicycle products. From the footage it appears that e-bikes haven’t completely taken over in Barcelona. In European cities I think your content fills a niche between sports bikes and city bikes/e-bikes with the added benefit that alt bikes can be ridden virtually anywhere!
I used to live in Spain (3 years), in Castilla y Leon. Last time I was in Barcelona was 20+ years ago. I'm noticing (at least what I've seen in the video) that none of the signage is in Spanish... only Catalan. Interesting. I'm sure in the streets, many are still speaking Spanish.
I wanted to spend a few weeks in Perpignan Girona Barcelona. France is similar to Germany and more relaxed about bicycles on trains, but Spain is a bit harder. How frequent are those regional and media distancia? Like every 30 minutes or only a few times a day?
I wonder why you chose Girona vs Barcelona or one of the adjacent towns…. Do you have a video covering your choices in Spain? Mi mujer y yo vivimos in Poblenou para 6 meses. Ella trabaja aquí
Tranquilidad, paz...etc. Cosas que en BArcelona desaparecieron hace décadas. Y silencio. Y naturaleza a 5 minutos. Y conocer a los vecinos de tres casas mas allá...
If i'm not wrong there used to be a Espaibici in Girona since a couple years ago (maybe 10😅) Also, Amaro is a famous builder (handbuilder) from basque country
Russ, these first few months will be exhausting and stressful until you get back to a routine of sorts. Once you have settled down and start to have some more time to think that's when things can turn dark for an immigrant as the initial excitement and novelty slowly turn into a sense of alienation and isolation. That will be the hardest period. It gets better from there, so take it easy and don't second guess yourself too much.

Isn't it just awesome when public transport just WORKS !!! and the sunshine and light sweater weather in late November is fantastic !
Bueno....creo que se nota que no haces uso de la red de Cercanías de RENFE (Rodalíes) en Cataluña si afirmas que..."funciona"... ;)
Catalonia is a bike paradise! I moved from Asheville to Barcelona a couple of years ago, not sure I'll ever leave
Barcelona is such a cool town. We went there for Christmas one year and even got to beat Tió with a stick!
Moving to Spain and living the dream...I'm so happy for you guys! I haven't been there since '04 when I went exploring as a younger lad.
Love the light set up, I used to work as a photographer and used flash and continuous light. The light you bought looks compact and natural, I wish you well using it.

I was in Lahti for a gravel event this year and stayed extra long to enjoy the area. Super spot and country ❤
Enjoy Spain!
Vaude=Faudé 😎

Can't wait to watch the ride videos from you guys in Spain, gonna be awesome.

The light stand feet expand to also raise the light as well as for us on uneven surfaces.
Great to see you two out and about.
Glad you guys made it to Spain safely and are getting settled in!
appreciate the detail and thought process thanks
NIce! Thanks for taking us along. Barcelona is such a wonderful city.

I prayed for you both that you would be comforted in an unfamiliar culture. Looking forward to the stories you have to tell.
They have a ton of people stateside rooting for them. Team path less pedaled !
Wow, living the dream, your both an inspiration, sometimes u gotta get outta your comfort zone.
This town looks so much fun! I would be crazy with my camera, taking pictures of this amazing place!
I love the lightstand! Most compact i’ve ever seen
Also: Barcelona!
Thank you for the insights, much success to you!

Barçelona is a beautiful place and maybe once you are settled you might venture down the coast some weekend to another beautiful city where my wife comes from, Valencia.
Si vienen a Valencia, no deben perderse hacer un buen "esmorçaret"...
Camera equipment is very nice!
Just open up and get that background bokeh! Light looks great!

Russ remarked that the featured shop is an exception to be in the more PLP.
Anywhere in Europe, embrace the granny trolley.
Great Vid. Enjoying your new Journey. Thanks from Seattle.

Barcelona is my favorite city in the world.
I love Surly!
Enjoy Europe, Barcelona is a brilliant city.
Interesting to see some studio lighting nerddary! Nice kit. I guess the head must be daylight balanced so you can use the ambient daylight as a fill, so long as the main light isn't too bright?
The light is bicolor so can be adjusted for daylight or tungsten.
@@PathLessPedaledTV Wow... technology eh! And here was me wondering how you fit gels and stuff! LOL
If you ever visit Sweden our bike shop should be on your list. I hope we will meet some day.
Loved everything!
I think the shadow side brings a little Vermeer inro the set. 😀

a 1 x 1 meter white card on your shadow side would help a bunch...maybe a c-stand would be handy, too?
Unless we want to carry it on the train and walk 20 minutes we're not buying it :)
Try to use a collapsible reflector. You can take it with you everywere...
I notice the bike colors there tend to be scuttle & glossy opaque. I like that.
Just watched a watercolorist review use of that lantern light. Sweet!

Based in Mataro for a bit. Barcelona is one of the best cities in the world!
The store had Norwegian freeze dried food pouches. Interesting.
I was thinking you needed Bromptons again and voila they appear in your video! Would you consider them for urban excursions, groceries?
Heck yeah!
Really nice video guys, thanks, it's great seeing you setting in. Oh, and about Surlys, Surly bikes are for humans. Take care and have fun!
I wanted to spend a few weeks in Perpignan Girona Barcelona. France is similar to Germany and more relaxed about bicycles on trains, but Spain is a bit harder. How frequent are those regional and media distancia? Like every 30 minutes or only a few times a day?
Depends. Roughly every hour.
There are a lot of trains (BCN-Gi) 30 min or less. Just check Renfe web or Google maps for train schedules
I wonder why you chose Girona vs Barcelona or one of the adjacent towns…. Do you have a video covering your choices in Spain? Mi mujer y yo vivimos in Poblenou para 6 meses. Ella trabaja aquí

Barcelona is the city with most brompton per capita if I'm not mistaken :)
If i'm not wrong there used to be a Espaibici in Girona since a couple years ago (maybe 10😅) Also, Amaro is a famous builder (handbuilder) from basque country
Please make another visit of Laura from Laucyclecoach, I do like your both vibes.🎉
Nice caps! Are they available here in Spain?
Unfortunately not. Still shipping from the US.
@@PathLessPedaledTV Thanks anyway.
@@PathLessPedaledTV You might want to hop on the AVE one day and check out Seville. We have 120 kms of protected bicycle lanes here.
How much are we talking in euros for that light set up? Cheers. Hope you’re settling in ok.
More Euros than I wanted to spend. About 800.
The "darker shadow side" keeps it human, don't wash yourself out!
My favorite babe cyclist is from Spain, she just sent me my first jersey! Anita Gonzalez GR-100

Personally I don't take any notice of the quality , for me the videos are ether interesting or not .
But… you don’t like Surly.
I like Surly, but there are also better bikes. It’s not mutually exclusive.
@@PathLessPedaledTV Fair enough. I am resisting, however, buying a VO Piolet frame while they’re on sale.
