    In my home we save for lavish vacations. To each their own. Some prefer possessions others prefer experiences. Some fortunate soul have both.

      I won't stop buying café but I cook from scratch at least 6days a week.

  • @truthseeker7564

    I stopped buying coffee two years ago. I invested in an expensive mug that keeps my drinks hot for up to 8 hours. The mug paid for itself in two weeks. I drink plain anyway but it helps save some cash. Another way I have saved a lot of money is doing my own nails. It has saved me so much money and everyone is always shocked when they ask who I go to and i say, me! I have two kids and work but I keep with it once a week. Then a color change every five days. It's become a therapeutic ritual and the best part is when I have my nail day, the kids and hubby help out and do things for me so I don't ruin my nails, it is a mini pamper day. Another way I saved is cleaning my house. I have someone come out once every four months for a deep clean but do it all my self. Plus it's great exercise. My motto is I'm young now and can do it myself, I'm not paying someone else to do it. When I get older and unable to do these things then I'll pay for the service.

    I think you forgot the basics.
    How to actually be able to afford luxury items:
    - work hard, save up, be smart with your money so you can save up to buy them yourself
    - marry someone with money who can buy em for you
    (Either way works for many people, so no shades are thrown here.)
    I think the thumbnail title is misleading. Also, you should give a disclaimer in the beginning that these are more tips on saving up when one already has the money to buy them. and I think this video is more directed toward collectors or people who buy luxury items a lot and tips to save up, rather than tips to be able to afford them in the first place.

    • @vivavidadela
      @vivavidadela 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      princessavienz that’s true because for the things she buys like every month, you need a high income to begin with. For normal incomes these tips don’t apply much because you’ll need at least one year for one bag anyway.

  • @vickenator
    @vickenator 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I think this is one of the best 'lifestyle' vlogs I've ever watched; it's so easy to be snarky about videos of someone buying $1000+ luxury bags seemingly all the time (which of course is never the case, but snap judgments are easy on TH-cam). However, you really illustrate the intelligent way to approach this hobby, and one thing others should keep in mind is that everyone has their own personal luxury items they choose to invest in, whether they're handbags or cars or education or makeup or computer stuff or whatever "makes your heart sing" as you said. Be careful, be mindful, be smart about it, and be happy. Thanks for sharing your tips.

    Shea, so glad I watched this video, it has really changed my perspective of you. You are a smart shopper and I admire that quality. I practice the one month rule. Matter of fact the first LV I purchased I waited years before buying and I bought pre-loved then I used it for years. I want to build my collection for my grand daughter.

    Great advice Shea! I follow similar guidelines. Last year I saved 10% on a LV Speedy by purchasing it with my Discover IT card that was offering 10% cash back on department store purchases in the fall. I purchased it through Neiman Marcus at their LV boutique. I have also had some great pre-loved purchases. And, I LOVE Ebates. My husband couldn't believe it when I got an $85 check in the mail a few months ago, and that was in addition to the cash back I got on my credit card :-)

    The only time I don't pay my credit card off in full is when I get 12 months or more no interest. If I can use someone else's money for a year or two, why not? I've done that with large purchases like furniture or appliances. The key is to divide the balance by the number of months and either pay that amount if required or put it in a designated savings account. I love using Mint. It really shows you where you are spending. I noticed a lot of money was going to groceries and I started shopping smarter- never go to the store on an empty stomach 😂

    Hey Shea! I totally agree about the credit card. We use one mainly for everything and always pay it off at the end of the month. Not only is it more secure than a debit card, why not get back free money that you were going to spend anyway?! I do use Ebates but I need to be better about remembering them for the larger department stores. xo

    Nice background set-up.
    You never cease to entertain. You are too funny! 'Thanks a Mil' for all the great tips.
    Just 1 suggestion: If you ever decide in the future to do a luxury pruchase follow-up video please do one on the luxury consignment industry ....another great way to be able to 'afford' those luxury items that you want. The Real Real, The Luxury Resale Network, and Saks Off 5th are just the ones I know. In addition I have heard of the site, Retail Me Not foe % codes (??). Anyway hope this helps.

    Another great video Shea! I think the same way you do as far as 'balancing' my budget. It's always tempting to buy luxury items, but it does make sense to give yourself time to save $$ as well as think about the big purchase, cause sometimes what I thought I was obsessed about, eventually I got over it.

    I travel a TON and my favorite rewards card is the Expedia voyager+ citi bank card. you can earn 4 points per $ on expedia purchases, 2 points on dining and entertainment, and 1 point on everything else. The great thing is all my points are in one spot. so i dont have to be brand loyal, i can use whichever airline i want and whichever hotel chain i want and still earn and use points!

    Hi Shea. Can I ask a question about cleaning & maintenance of my LV bags? I have a couple of KeepAll’s which I purchased new in Manhattan back in 1987. I’ve got KeepAll 45 and KeepAll 55, Both in monogram canvas with the light tan vachetta leather, and gold colored metal links, zippers and locks. As my career was in airline management, my luggage is pretty well travelled. I’ve taken care to keep them clean and rip free, but the leather handles are pretty discolored from wear and tear. What’s the best way to clean the leather? They’ve got nice patina, darker tint all around, but the dirt, and oil stains from my hands needs to be cleaned off. I just don’t know what to safely use without damaging the leather. Lastly, I’m having trouble finding out how to get small repairs done. 1). One of the rivets where the top of handle strap is riveted to the bag has popped through and needs to be replaced. 2). One of the leather pull tags that are sewn into the outside seam on the top, end of the bag has ripped off.
    Last question; these older bags don’t have any labels or printing on the inside of the bags. There’s no lining, it’s just the backside of the canvas. So there’s no identifying marks or date or serial numbers. The bags main body has no seams (except for the one piece end pieces) it’s one piece of canvas wrapped around. It is stamped on the leather end pull piece, luggage tag, and handle hold together strap;
    Louis Vuitton
    Paris
    Made in France
    So is there a way to identify these bags manufacture date? Well that’s all for now. Any tips you can pass on will be appreciated.
    I’m thinking of getting a KeepAll Bandoulière 45 or 50. Trying to decide which material to get? Now that I’m older (63) & retired, I want something that’s mature as well as classy. {I’m a guy who has been into luggage and premium leather goods since the mid 1980’s. I have eight Tumi black leather briefcase’s / laptop bags}. I have black leather ‘Cabin Bags’ with shoulder straps, a Coach and a Tumi, they look very similar to each other. But I just feel different when I’m traveling carrying my Louie bags. I wish they made the KeepAll Bandoulière when I purchased mine back in ‘87. That shoulder strap makes a huge difference.
    Thanks Shea. I enjoy your videos.

    ps. the best advice I have ever gotten is shop consignment stores as someone already picked those and took care of them....most have tags still on. I also consign a ton of my brand purses, sunglasses, and big brand shoes....it is funny because I never feel ripped off as I sometimes reconsign things I bought consigned! I pay attention to matetial/ testures and classics more then brands. The most horrible clowny clothes I have seen are big branded. Some still gave me nightmares. For example this rainbow brite dress ( Betsey Johnson)....Of course I dod not buy it but had a dream I bought it and was at a party in IT. This being a dream I dreamt people were snickering and laighing and in my dream I looked down and was wearing it....lol.

    As an alternative to mint.com if anyones still worried abotu security, you could also use microsoft (i wanna say excell but i cant exactly remember) and just make a spread sheet.
