Seeing Wander helplessly fighting to survive made me cry, but man, when Agro came back limping, that KILLED me. I still tear up even thinking about this ending. Such an amazing game.
😢 yeah
I was just repeating "don't kill Aro, don't kill Aro"
This was indeed the game PS2 Emotion Engine gave players connections to the designer’s thoughts. I await for the 4th story of this Masterpiece of Games 😅
This game is an utter masterpiece, even 15 years later it's still my favorite game ever
Same here I still come to this to watch it
the fact they allow you to hold back as long as you can ( 11:40 ) really makes this ending gut wrenching.
Reminds me of rdr
Yo I was fighting it for like 30 mins I would even advance foward after being pulled back but after a certain point it just pulls you all the way back in agian
Oh my god it's halo reach all over again
I found out I could glitch it by jumping but at a certain point it’s a barrier
The ironic thing is, by killing Mono, the tribal priests brought about the very thing they sought to prevent.
Yes, that's her curse fate too.
They had no choice, Wander was entranced by Dormin. It was too late ):
Can you elaborate? I havent played but i wanna know the lore
@@Crazy0j8
Sure. From what I understand of the lore, Mono (the girl) was prophesied to be the mother of a half demon child which would start the rebirth of the demonic people that inhabited the region where this game is set, and freeing the dark god Dormin. However, we can pretty thoroughly assume that the main protagonist Wander was in love with Mono. So, when the tribal priests used her in a ritual sacrifice to prevent the prophecy from coming about, Wander stole her body, and rode to the ancient temple of Dormin, where it was said that the dead could be brought back to life, but at a very steep cost. Thus, playing out the events of the game, and bringing about the very thing the priests sought to prevent in the first place.
@@pageachatter229 thx for telling me :)
one of the most beautiful and sadest endings ever .
There are saddest endings
First game where i realy cry... so sad
I love this ending though I wish like after completing it once they would’ve added the alternative ending they had in mind too but I still love it and I’ve downloaded the soundtrack on my iPod and yesterday and today I’ve been binge listening to this song lol

That part at the end with the deer and when the eagle flys away , the music! that hit me deep! I wept like a baby and it still cuts deep, one of the best games I’ve played, a masterpiece.
Yep! Finished playing very late on a Friday night years ago.
When the hawk flew up and away............damn.........still gets to me.
Big Kudos for that final 20-minute cutscene.
The remains of the colossi as the credits roll.....the riders fleeing across the bridge as it collapses..........outstanding.
And...........the music.

imagine how devastating it was for Wander to see Mono being sacrificed...
There was any explanation to why she was sacrificed?
@@classicgameplay10 the guy with mask that goes after you with his crew (Lord Amon is his name I believe) said that she had a cursed fate, so his fear and paranoia made him do the decision to sacrifice her
I think he was the one who killed her, and he did what he did to redempt himself
@@classicgameplay10 Momo was sacrificed because she was cursed. Is everything you coul infere.
What's the curse? and the rest... you don't know anything.
You only know (infering) that Wander is nos a warrior, you can notice in how he walks, how he fights, how he grabs the sword.. He is there, in that forbidden holy land. to bring back to life, the girl he loves. Just for a legend, that you don't know if it's true.
You had to add, that his enemies are bigger than him, stronger than him, you are in a land you don't know anything about, following the orders of a kind of God, just for the promise that their can grant your wish. Your wish is: Defeat the Death, of a dead one.
A lot of things I said. I infered for all the times I played this masterpiece. Anybody can have their own interpetation. But the first thing you know in that game, is that you have to defeat Colossus.
Is part of the essence of Ueda and Shadow of the Colossus, to don't know anything.
I guess the better graphic board, and/or the better pencil and paper, is the imagination.
@realfake02 it seemed like the way she greeted his horse, meant she didn't know the horse... meaning she didn't know Wander either... she's just confused someone attempted to save her despite her curse

So Wander is ICO? Do we have any concensus on who the girl is? Is it a love interest? Wander’s sister? Maybe just a friend? Bc she’s basically gonna have to be Ico’s mom.
@@Zeke1460 well Wander isn’t Ico himself, but Wander is the originator of the curse the horned boys have in ICO. It’s safe to assume a few hundred-thousand years have passed since SotC by the time ICO happens
@@Snipreesh It’s also speculated that the queen in Ico is Mono herself, who was cursed after having inhabited the forbidden lands for many hundreds of years. She repopulated the forbidden lands with horned Wander, and the civilization that lived there thereafter venerated her and sacrificed horned boys to keep her young. This also explains the “cursed fate,” as Wander mentioned, that caused her to be sacrificed by lord Emon. It is also confirmed that Ico takes place just 1000 years after SOTC, according to some sources I can’t quite remember the name of right now.
@@AleF202So who is the boy in Ico, why does he have similar poncho to wander? Is it like a tribe thing?
They really did this game justice with the remake.
You know what game also deserve a remake, a game maded by same studio and got released 4 years before shadow of the colossus
@@adriandzikon797 I assume you mean Ico.
@@ShadowKayvaan yes
The game was already great at ps2 because of the art direction, but better graphics made it 100% perfect
I played many "scary" games and didn't have too much trouble with them, but the lonely, eerie quality of SOTC really was something different I hadn't experienced in a game before. It really got to me at times. Nearly twenty years later, and I still think about it.
The game truly is touching
I paniked at many collosi 🤣 like the sandworm, the bearded, the little lions, the lizard, or the horse one.
it's like psychological horror kinda
Koh Otani is such an underrated componist. His music is unbelivible beautiful
He also composed Another
My 4 year old and I played through this entire game (I pkayed, he watched, offered tips and spotted lizards for me). I didnt intend for him to watch at first, but we loved the experience with the first "Giant" so much that we had to. He legit cried for Agro when she fell and I had to sort of spoil it for him so he could continue.
He was scared of some of the colossi, but watching a little regular guy beat the monsters was really comforting for him and sorta gave him strength. I struggled with the final colossus and almost gave up altogether. He legit said "never give up!" And then I beat it for the first time.
There are a few scenes at the end I would have shielded him from, but honestly...what an experience. Love this game and it might be my favourite game just for the experience with my son alone.
one of the best comments i’ve ever seen
Congratulations on being able to have that experience with your son
I don’t think children should be shielded away from powerful stories. I’m happy that you and your son had shared this story together. I still vividly remember my father and I sharing a similar kind of storytelling experience through NES Faxanadu. It’s one of my most cherished childhood memories. I’m sure your son will remember going on an epic adventure with his dad through this game very fondly too.
But man agro is a beast she fell from a cliff to water and came to stay with mono and baby wandere that horse is the real beast
My interpretation for a while was that Agro did die, but Dormin also resurrected her when they revived Mono. That fall is not survivable irl or in game.
This game was so ahead of its time.
Was a masterpiece to play on PS2.
Hoping for the PC port soon.
I'm still hoping for a PC port!!
I love ths ending its sad bc wander sacrifices himself just for mono to be alive :(
I Wonder if he knew what the price is.. Maybe he felt how dormin grow stronger in him every Time he slay a colossi.. Too bad there is so few dialogues lines... It would be nice if they make lore more Wide and Deep, and told more about wander.. His feelings etc.. The game is a Masterpiece but the Main Hero is dull because we don't know nothing about him...
Dahaka461989 that makes him mysterious not dull
Maddy Wyeth he became a baby
True but with horns
No it’s sad because he killed all of those innocent colossi for personal reasons…he didn’t know he was sacrificing himself or bring dormin back…he’s an idiot…he was selfish

For me, this is the pinnacle of art direction in a game.

I cried like a baby and still do
Biggest plus is the bgm
I bought these games together 10+ years ago on ps2 and played them back to back since I always heard such good things about them. One of the things that stuck out to me was the haze/aura around Mono after her revival which looks similar to Yorda's. It could be just the whiteness of their dresses, but it really sticks out between the both of them. This led me to believe that Yorda was some kind of reincarnation of Mono. I've seen several people state that they believe that the Queen is Mono and she is somehow being controlled by Dormin in Ico, but it would make more sense to me if Yorda was the reincarnation. Mono was directly involved with Dormin just prior to his dispersal, so it would make sense that her body was somehow affected and that she would have a high affinity with his power. This would also lead to the Queen wanting that body for herself. I can't say who the Queen is or if she is definitely being controlled by Dormin, but I believe that she is not Mono in anyway other than being the mother of her reincarnation.
I agree with you, in fact, I'd like to talk more about Shadow of the Colossus, I am trying to figure out if they still retain their memories, probably not, I have no idea, We don't even know if Dormin is gone forever or maybe some part of him is present in this revived girl and the baby (he's born with horns)
One of the parts that always gets me, is when the credits first start rolling, the camera just pans across the corpses of each of the colossi, leaving you to ponder what you have done.
I would be interested if they made another prequel that focussed on taking down Dormin and separating him into the 16 colossi.
Ken Tsang so just one fight with a ritual at the end? =P
Not necessarily. You could still have to collect the 16 collossi that the pieces will possess
Omg yes!! I really want more shadow of the colossus games, the story is so good and i want to know more
@@boykingmb They could make Player play as Dormin destroying the lands first before someone come to defeat Him... 😂😂 Just make It, so Player can relieve Their mind using Dormin to Rampage before They use another Character to defeat Dormin... 😂😂╮(. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)╭
@Free Thought This isn't last of us, both ico and sotc are linear stories. The focus it's not the melodrama and the conflit, but the feeling of being alone in a mystical world with supernatural forces you can't define.
You got what you wanted, but you lost what you had!
Mono: Did you do it?
Wander: ...yes.
Mono: What did it cost?
Wander: ...everything.
ARE YA REAAAADY?!!???!?!?
beautiful ending, but man my first play thru, I thought I was doing something wrong. So to quote the great Oblivion Citadel Guards "WHY! WON'T! YOU! DIE!?"
letting you vainly grip onto the stairs is brutal
Seeing Argo come back limping then being embraced by Mono always makes me cry 😭💔
Mono is a beautiful girl
i'm still sad they took out the finala eagle scream at the end, it suited so well to end this masaterpiece of a game back in the ps2
i disagree, that jumpscared the hell out of me my first time and kinda took me out of it LOL
you traverse through barren lands and kill innocent monsters only to have a bad ending... but then the girl is revived, the horse is not dead, protagonist is reborn and you finally get to see animals all gathering from those hours of isolated experience with some of the most beautiful soundtracks that fit right into the pace... this is what i call a masterpiece, when you think the game is flawed but in the end all the flaw have their reasons that make the experience 100× times more beautiful, if it had a dense world then you wouldn't get the satisfaction of this ending, simplicity is a big factor, just compare this game to assassin's creed valhalla and you will see the biggest difference in gaming ever
One of the games that is undoutebtebly a masterpiece of the audiovisual arts, I always feel the same things every playthrough, even though I played this game dozens of times
I can't help but come back from time to time to watch and listen to the ending :)
That painfull and sad scream at 11:50..
I have a poster of this game quoting " How far would you go for love" back in 2005-2006. I loved that quote, but I understood it right I played and finished the game. This game really hit on everything.
My heart does not know what to fell
Same, I was left speechless when I finished
This is not a game, its a feeling
The shaman is the cause of everything that happened in the game
This game wasn't part of my childhood and I never really heard or seen anything about it but I decided to pick it up when I found it for sale on Black Friday in 2018 and I completely fell in love with this game. Part of me is glad I never played it until the ps4 remake came out because I'm glad I got to experience it with these gorgeous visuals as my first experience although I'm sure had I grew up with the original I'd still have that strong nostalgic love for it
21:07 it’s a baby
That’s Wander.

Most beautiful platinum journey I've ever encountered
the end from the moment when the horse comes back and mono getts up has some Tarkovsky vibes... I really love it
They should make this into a movie. It will be the best movie ever
With the track record of video game adaptations, I think odds are they'd screw it up. If it was done well it could be something beautiful, the trick is finding the studio that actually respects the source material.
@@JamesTobiasStewart A director and writer not opposed to a mostly silent film too. Too much dialogue would ruin the vibe.

The spell cast in the pool sealed Dormin. The magic for whatever reason can't separate Dormin from Wander directly so the only way it could do that was to revert Wander back to an earlier state of innocence. Like fixing an infected computer by rebooting to a clean install of Windows.
Now why does it work that way? Well it's magic and made up.

Wish there had been a second ending where you succeed at killing the priest and his men or if you managed not to be dragged by the portal thing.
About the baby the designer fumito did not want to explain the ending he want us to see it as we think it is so the baby should be wander for three reasons 1 the magic only kill evil people but wander is not evil he just had dormin’s darkness which means darkness that doesn’t belong to him and 2 lord edmun said you should be alive if there is a chance to survive in this land he means the land not the seal because he knew that wander shall not died because like I said before the spell only kill evil people and 3 when the baby is being shown you can touch a button I don’t remember which one but if you touch a button the baby will cry and he will move his arms meaning it is wander after all and one more thing the baby has wander’s features
When I borrowed the game from blovkbuster I had 30 minutes to complete the game from the start of malus these were the most nerve wracking 30 minutes of my life.
