      Yes, exactly! Since the Far East of the middle earth is vastly unexplored and unexplained besides the fact that the people of Rhûn lived there as well as other nations, there’s so much potential to create a story about the blue wizards who travelled there and inspired some of the local people to resist the influence of Sauron and Morgoth worshippers… I like the flashback scene of the non canon LOTR game Shadow of war where the twin sisters Riya and Yukka gradually become the Nazgûl sisters after killing their father, an emperor of the kingdom of Shen;

    I did, a long time ago, read a fanfic picturing Gandalf arriving back in Aman after the end of Lord of The Rings to discover that there is no pipeweed to ne had in the Undyiing Lands. The tale ended in an argumenmt between Olorin, Yavanna, Aule and Manwe, best described as a "full and frank excahntge of views". Aule has been groweing the stuff in secret and Yavanna found out...

    I like the idea of Gandalf being Manwe in disguise, but I don't think there is any chance of it being true. I just don't see Manwe having any problem at all with defeating either the balrog or even Sauron himself, especially Sauron without the One Ring. Gandalf was a Maiar, not the King of the Valar.

    😮😮 I actually kind of like the “Gandalf as Manwe” theory. It sort of fits and you really don’t have to change anything from the LOTR to make it fit. You would need more from The Silmarillion or Unfinished Tails to really make it legit but it’s still definitely a cool theory to ponder over.

    In early manuscripts of The Hobbit, the name Bladorthin was used by Tolkien for the character who later would be named Gandalf. The name Gandalf was instead used for the character known as Thorin in the published works.

    • @6666Imperator
      @6666Imperator ปีที่แล้ว +2

      he switched a lot of things between his early works and the finalized versions. But it is interesting to go through these changes. I also love how Tolkien always made it seem that he is not the inventor but just the emissary who brings the story to the audience. That really imprinted itself into how I see stories and the characters in them.

    I like the idea that Gandalf was Mandela sp? in disguise but the text argues against it. Take as one example, Gwahiers comment to Gandalf when he was rescued from the tower that he has there to bear messages not burdens. I doubt that the king of the eagles would have responded to his lord in that manner. Please excuse my horrible spelling.

    Manwe-as-Gandalf is a theory that doesn't work when you think of the story. Yes, it would explain Gandalf's close affinity with the Great Eagles, but honestly speaking if Manwe Himself went to Middle Earth, he could have just marched up to Dol Guldur or Barad-dur, swatted away the Nazgul like bugs, put a chain around Sauron's neck and just dragged him back to Valinor. The most boring story ever. And if you use the argument that he bound himself by the same limitations as the Maiar who became Istari, why would he effectively leave the HQ for 2,000 years to do this? And if he was Gandalf, why was another Istari chosen to be the initial Head of the Order?
    No, Olorin became Gandalf, and that is the only explanation that satisfies scrutiny.

    I kind of like the idea that Manwe turned to Gandalf. But for some reason, he lost much of his power and memories. So he actually thought he was a Mayar named Olorin all through out the story. And Manwe had kept the transformation secret to almost everyone.

      Wouldn't the other Valar be alarmed if Manwe suddenly disappeared?

    • @lichen24moss
      @lichen24moss ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fudgeologyfive Yup. But I wonder how far the news would spread or if the Valar would be willing to let that info leak. Travel between Valinor and Middle Earth is already limited to the Elves and Ishtari. The Valar's control over their lands could give them the power to hide it even from its residents. If Manwe were to disappear, it could also prompt the Valar to isolate Valinor even more to make up for their more weakened position. If ever the Valar did guess Manwe's plan, keeping the secret may also have been a good way to avoid him from getting targeted or sniped.

      @@herbthompson8937 Well, we will never know if Manwë (as Gandalf the White) would have been strong enough to defeat Sauron alone. Possibly yes, if he had donned the Ring and declared himself his master, but even Manwë would have been corrupted because of his desires and wishes. Alone Tom Bombadil, who had no desires, was immune from the ring. But as Gandalf the White, without the Ring, riding his horse in battle, there he was only part of the distraction that enabled the three Hobbits (not forgetting Gollum) to destroy the Ring, albeit possibly with an intervention by Ilúvatar. For no one (except Tom B.) who could perform the ring was able to destroy it. Alone Gollum's dance of joy outwitted the power of the ring.

    Gandalf being Manwe has to be the dumbest theory I've ever heard. Lol But hearing you describe Gandalf coming to middle earth before he was officially sent in the third age is interesting. It certainly makes everyone's bitching about the unidentified wizard in Rings of Power even more ridiculous, ESPECIALLY if he turns out to be Gandalf. (Which I still doubt). It seems the show creators actually do have a vast understanding of the lore, since even you and other lotr channels said a maiar showing up "BrEaKs ThE lOrE". 🤣
