      @@RedK5 So if you don't mix Cornstarch with a little bit of water before putting it into your dish it just turns into lumpy powder; you can try whisking it all you want but it'll still be lumpy powder. So stop that you mix it with a little bit of water (so 1 teaspoon of corn starch with 1 tablespoon of cold water.) You can then put it into your sauce, and stir on a low heat. To be fair, in a real kitchen, Pedro wouldn't be allowed anywhere near the food, because he's not wearing uniform, hairnet, and has probably handled unsafe substances. Also, he's probably not been introduced to the health and safety standards you have to know before handling food, as evidenced by the fact that he used cleaning equipment right before tending to the soup without so much as washing his hands.

    Wow, that's not just a story telling a story, it's changing lives
    I'd like to add that people who do work in the kitchen even as janitors want to be chefs and work their way up, of course not all do want to move up but lots do. I believe that the villain chef probably came from another restaurant so they think they're above everyone else and the janitor has probably worked there for a bit and has good relationships (probably why they stood up for him). Not all restaurants need to work their way up. The head chef probably gave it to him because he believes that the janitors has potential to move up. And yes, head chefs do not have time to make their own dishes but they do make the menus. There are many roles in a kitchen and you don't always have to move up in them.
    I'm training to be a baker so I've had to learn this and I'm not the best at explaining but I hope I did a good job :)

    • @Miranda-vj8yy
      @Miranda-vj8yy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I see what you mean, about people moving up. Its more to do with the fact, that a janitor is hired to clean, it will be in his contract, where as a chef is hired to cook and will need to have qualifications or at least some experience to be hired. There is nothing wrong with a janitor wanting to become a chef. If they want to do that, they need to study to gain knowledge and find a job, where they make food. No way would a janitor ever go straight to head chef, it hard to believe even in a fictional reality. If your want to become a baker, you dont get a job as a janitor you get a job that requires you to do some baking

    • @DeadFam2
      @DeadFam2 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Miranda-vj8yy I get that but most of the time you don't actually go to a college or uni if you want to do something in cooking. You can but you don't have to, normally you get an apprenticeship or a low level job and work up. There is NO WAY you can go from being a janitor straight to head chef, that's stupid and in that case he does need the training. I do get what you're saying about him being hired to be a janitor and it did look like he was doing his job most of the time but the head chef said it was ok. Thanks you, you had some good points and a lot of them are right. Thank you :)

    The part that drives me crazy is even if the guy looks down upon him as a janitor, chefs are cooking food FOR THE PEOPLE. So if he is "just a janitor" and he thinks it doesn't need more salt than his word STILL MATTERS. If a customer said "uhh this sauce is way too salty" you wouldn't just say "well what do you know you're not a chef!" ... they are who are eating your food!!!! It PEEVES ME OFF

    • @Miranda-vj8yy
      @Miranda-vj8yy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see what you mean, but they would usually ask another chef for a second opinion as the janitor wouldn't come into clean while they are still cooking, it wouldn't be possible for them to do so. They listen to the customer because they are paying for the food.

    The "chef" didn't add the corn starch properly. You usually want to bring the pot to a rolling boil then mix corn starch into a cup of cold water. Then pour the mixture in slowly with consistent slow stirring. That'll prevent the starch from clumping.

    Joinen, it wasn't dirty. It was some weird design of a chef holding a covered dish that was drawn on the paper. It was there when he handed it to all of them. You can see it at the 1:59 time stamp.

    There's some logic to it. Its not an open competition. Its a competition specifically for the chefs that already work there. Therefore he's not eligible. 💁 The guy didn't have to mean about it but it's a reasonable restriction. Also he has no food hygiene standards getting stuff out of the bin. 😂
