    I truly don’t understand this one, he’s eighteen and immediately gets and entry level position (I have friends who are college graduates who get denied entry level positions and have searched for months) and then he earns enough to move out within a few weeks (costs about $2k-$5k a month if you factor in utilities and food ) and then he buys his parents toilet paper (telling them to cut it in half) and orange tree seeds and the mother is grateful.. this makes no sense to me. • @AverageJillM
      @AverageJillM 3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      It said that he moved out three weeks after getting a job. He probably only received his first paycheck, which was probably for two weeks work. Assuming that he gets the stated $14 an hour (a stretch), and he works 40 hours a week (nearly impossible, employers want to keep employees below 30 hours a week to avoid paying for benefits), he would have earned $1120 before taxes. Impossible to get an apartment for less than $900 a month, most one bedroom apartments in my area are between $1200 and $1400 a month. Before you move in, you will need a second month's rent as a security deposit. Yes, this story is absolutely impossible.

      Even from a plot point of view I have to agree. With his attitude he should never have had access to their accounts, because clearly they never even attempted to try and teach him anything about the value of money growing up. But something tells me they didn't give him access as a unit. He either asked his dad when his mother wasn't around for access to the accounts somehow or he stole the account information. No way his mother would have given him access from what we've seen of the character.

    The food thing really hurt to watch, honestly. Despite my family being completely able to afford food (Like that family is, considering their fancy house and stuff), I was constantly made to feel guilty for the expense of the food. Combined with my IBS and acid reflux making it difficult to eat anyway, I often skip meals to save money and every time I do eat, the guilt eats me right back. I've literally cried over needing to eat before, and I always try to eat in secret so no one sees what a waste I am. It's awful, I know logically I shouldn't feel guilty for doing what I need to literally just survive, but it's just engrained so deep.
    Please, unless you literally have to ration, don't guilt kids (or even teenagers) over the expense of basic foods like milk. It's one thing if it's some super high end weird ingredient they genuinely don't need, but I'm talking about basic stuff for a good diet (not that milk is NECESSARY for a good diet but it is common and honestly not that expensive). Don't make children feel guilty for existing.

      I hear you I do, my parents would consistently make me feel incredibly guilty for wasting anything. Still do, trying to move out right now. They blamed me for everything that went wrong with them my whole life. It hurts more when it happens to your siblings though and you can't change it. You can't do anything about it, you know how they feel and you can't stop it. You can't convince them they deserve to live because you can't tell them something they already know but can't believe. Guilt and shame are terrible things.

I can only think of one time my mom lashed out at him, and funny enough, afterwards he apologized to me for never believing me about how she treats me on a daily basis haha. I guess the only positive to being the youngest is I don't feel an obligation to defend my siblings (not that I wouldn't if they needed me, I absolutely would, but I'm not like a third parent or anything). Parents really need to stop hurting their own children, it's literally normalized to be abusive...

    This episode almost played out like a Dhar Mann video, with Joinen initially judging the actors and later realizing they were more real.
    Plot Twist: Joinen is the new Dhar Mann villain.

    The part with the son being like "I don't want to take a job that doesn't pay enough" and the mom acting like that's so entitled and you should just take whatever you can get sure does hit different after all the drama with Dhar Mann earlier this year...

    It sounds like his parents didn't do their job in teaching him this when he was younger
    They gave him access to their credit cards, the information to change their internet plan, and apparently never taught him the basics of rolling up your toothpaste.
    If my parents did this and then tried to teach me by kicking me out, forcing me to get a job because they think they know so much better than me, it wouldn't matter if they were right, and it wouldn't matter if I learn something I would still resent them.
    Tough love is fine, teaching someone with it is a good tool but this shows an obvious lack in parenting. This is not a good example
    There's a way to teach your kids and still hold up a relationship, by his mother doing this she would be breaking something between the two of them and not being aware of it, so wouldn't try to fix it either. If they were going to teach their son by having him get his own job they should have made it a condition a long time ago that you were going to have to get a job by 18 or 19 or something so that he knew it was coming, to decide this in the moment because you're frustrated is immature. This is a huge part of his life, something important and you decide to act like this, it's going to affect him a lot further than just getting a job for himself
    I know these are stupid videos and the whole point of this video is pointing out how ridiculous they are but being neglected as a child this just frustrates me.

    • @bluebird1914
      @bluebird1914 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      I agree. Like it's their fault for not teaching him when he was way younger that things are expensive, although, I don't agree with being forced to get a job. I feel like it should rather be 'if you're not studying, get a job so that we know you can take care of yourself'

    • @sylverscale
      @sylverscale 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      They didn't kick him out though.
      Also, it was just stupid storytelling. Kid should shave been 13 or 14 and they should have made him pay off his PS5 debt or something like that by getting a job like cutting lawn for example.
      The son was way too old for this to not make the parents look ridiculous, even though they were meant to be shown as loving and just doing it to prepare their son for adult life.
      Can't start that when you child is already a legal adult. 😅

      He wasn't kicked out, the mom just told him that if he wanted to buy stuff he had to use his own money. Then he got mad and said that he was gonna move out once he got a job. Funny thing is If he had stayed with his parents the 14$ an hour would've gone a long way

    The amount of money he started spending got extreme eventually, but the mom being that mad over mistakes like using up the last bit of milk (in my house if someone uses the last bit of milk its just ok, we can pick that up later, sucks) and turning the ac low is a bit extreme, those are basic mistakes. Now getting ps5 is extreme but why did you give him your card?

    Weird to me this kid didnt struggle more, like getting a job right out of HS is hard enough but being able to MOVE IN to your own apartment in just a few weeks? That's not how life works, and when he was talking about the 14 $/hour thing, i know people who would KILL to have that be their wage. It's also pretty clear his parents aren't poor. Poor people don't get to live in a house that looks like that - they're like at least middle class so I'm not sure why their kid is telling them to split toilet paper in half or why the mother is panicking over milk and A/C. It seems like the writers have never struggled with money/getting employed in their entire lives to be honest...

    How the conversation should have gone
    I got you double padded toilet paper so you can manually separate each roll to make your own 1ply toilet paper rolls by literally unwinding every single roll.
    That's nice honey but they sell 1ply toilet paper already made for cheap and we simply limit the number of squares to save money that way. The other way takes up too much time that we could be using to save money in other areas.
    Wow I still have a lot to learn.

    Jesus... I mean, as an adult who pays all my family's bills, and lives in a household where no one else works, the mom here actually seems a little excessive at first? The kid is literally only 18 and he, what? Ate a big bowl of cereal, ran out of toothpaste and prefers the AC on? 67 is more than a reasonable temperature, too, btw. I cannot imagine getting mad at anyone in my house for doing that. Obviously ordering an expensive item using my credit card without asking and upgrading our internet plan without asking wouldn't be cool, but those kiiiinda seem like the only real problems here. Up until that information is revealed, I think she mostly just needs to chill out... And maybe put milk and toothpaste on the shopping list more often. 🤷‍♀️
