    Been waiting for this and you didn’t disappoint. A really thoughtful and thorough review. I know a lot of “Chinese trash” will probably come but people need to understand not everything made in China is bad. There are manufacturers there that can make products just as good as American and generally western manufacturers and that includes these bars. It’s not a a country thats roughly the size of the US with over a billion people making iPhones, Nikes and crappy t-shirts. Much more nuanced than that and I’m glad you addressed it here in your own way.

    • @BasementBrandon

      Agreed. Take a look at Eleiko calibrated plates for example, which many would consider the best on the market... made in China. Same with the American Barbell dumbbells... made in China.
      I still prefer made in USA a lot of times, but there are some good pieces coming from overseas as well.... and a lot of bad ones lol.

    I bought a black zinc Boneyard 20kg Ohio Power Bar years ago for $225. It's my daily driver power bar. With tax and shipping around $250. Man I miss those days. Next up is finally dropping the cash for a set of matching plates. Those Hansu chrome plates are slick but just a bit out of budget.

    Just got the updated SS Hansu. It is flawless, its grip tilts sharp. It’s collars are just like AB! I have to say, after a week I love it more than my Chewy bar. The whole build screams high end. With the use I’ve give to the zinc HANSU power bar for around 4-5 months, it’s amazing with calibrated plates, it stays tight on squats and deadlifts, but using it to squat with pound plates, the whip it has its crazy, even when letting bar after the squat it didn’t stopped the whip, mentioning it was a 285kg sq with pound plates, and giving me perfect stability and zero whip squatting 300kg with eleiko calibrated plates. I totally agree with you with the spin on the bar, I think it spins what it has to spin its not a weightlifting barbell. Thank you for the review I’m contemplating upgrading from the zinc to the SS HANSU BB on the future.

    On sale now--480 for the Stainless Steel! How would you compare the knurl feel to that of the American Barbell Chewy Bar? Isn't the recessed Tig weld on the Hansu stolen from American Barbell's Chewy bar? AB just needs to make a competition bar.

    • @BasementBrandon
      @BasementBrandon  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'd say it feels somewhat similar. The Chewy is 20 TPI and the Hansu is more around 17 TPI, so Hansu has the larger pattern. Both offer great grip. We're currently working on a 16 TPI AB power bar, but it's a ways out.

    I am actually debating between the Rogue stainless squat bar and a second power bar. This is so I can superset squat and bench when they are not the main movement of the day. Stainless and more aggressive knurl is my criterion for the power bar. My current bar is the Rogue stainless OPB. The Rep Double Black Diamond, Hansu and Rogue Aggro 2x are candidates if I go with a power bar instead of a squat bar. I want Chrome sleeves, but haven’t checked the Aggro 2x bar specs yet. Any insights you can add?

    • @BasementBrandon
      @BasementBrandon  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The squat bar is just a big OPB, which is awesome if you want a thicker diameter fully knurled bar. A lot of people also like it for benching. If you want the REP, I might actually consider buying the Power Bar EX that's on closeout instead. Will save you like $150 vs the Double Black Diamond for mostly what I can tell is a similar bar. Hansu would be good if you want a comp bar, but won't give you anything really more than what you already have. The Aggro 2x has what many would consider a goldilocks knurl (just right) but the sleeves are stainless.

    • @markhalstead2386
      @markhalstead2386 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BasementBrandon Thanks for the thorough reply. Stainless sleeves are fine too. I just don’t like coated sleeves and think the jury is still out on the new proprietary finish sleeves. Sounds like it is between the Rogue squat bar, which would give me a completely different bar vs the Rogue Aggro 2x. The squat bar is actually less money than the Aggro 2x, so that may be the best bar for me to get. I wonder if I can try it out at Rogue in Columbus as they are close enough to me to drive it.

      @@BasementBrandon For sure, but I agree with MetalsForBrunch regarding spending that kind of money on a bar: I would just buy the American Barbell Chewy bar. Yes, not all Chinese manufacturing is equal, but there are points worth considering beyond the obvious "bang for your buck", point with which I agree with you on (these bars likely provide the best "bang for the buck" comparing them with other IPF certified barbells).

      I've found you get a much more consistent product (with a better warranty) when it's made in the USA for the most part. One of the issues I've seen from importers is that they actually change manufacturer's quite a bit and/or the quality control is inconsistent where batches of bar have a big variance.
