I don't think children should have to give up their seats for elders, I think other adults should give up their seats for elders. Children are absolutely equal to and just as important as adults. The 'etiquette expert's' perspective is really gross and disrespectful towards young people.
I offer my seat to those who I think might need it more than me, say an older person or pregnant woman, but that doesn’t mean I should have to if I don’t want. I give respect to those who I receive respect from and if you’re rude to me then I will not give my seat to you and that is fair. I don’t expect a 10 year old to offer me a seat because I’m an adult, that’s crazy. As a dancer as well, sometimes I’m coming home from a 12 hour rehearsal so I’m physically exhausted or I have an injury so if someone wants my seat, they won’t get it in those circumstances but I also think it’s entitled of the adult to expect a seat to be offered simply because of their age. Some of the rudest people I’ve ever interacted with have been older members of the community so I’m not going to be respectful to such individuals. The bloke in this video is wildly out of touch with modern life where, in this day and age, respect is earned.
When I get on the bus, I don’t pay to stand up, otherwise I would walk. I pay to sit down and enjoy the journey. I pay for a ticket, I deserve the seat
I'm with William on this. Very small children obviously need to be close to parents, but aged 8 or over, they should give precedence to adults where seating on public transport is concerned.
Why? Vulnerable people get priority, and after that it’s first-come-first-serve. Unless we’re talking about an elderly or disabled person, or someone else who for whatever reason can’t stand, then my seat is my seat until I get off.
A child (8 or older) should give up their seat to a senior or pregnant woman. We all know this.
