got this vehicle as a company car only temporary and I must say that I am sold what a lovely vehicle to be honest I’ve only ever had German high-end vehicles but this one really does take the biscuit I’m so impressed with how easy and enjoyable is to drive
My son bought a 2018 with the standard 2.0 liter. His first car. I’m very impressed, overall with the CHR. For an entry-level car it’s impressively quiet with a raft of safety equipment. Compared to my first car (in the late 70’s), it’s a luxury sport sedan! It’s perfect for my 17yo son. Economical with many safety aids and practical load space. By today’s standards it’s not fast, but extremely practical and pretty comfortable. Kids don’t know how good they have it these days. 😁👍
We got 7.03 seconds 0 to 60 when tested in our Orange Edition 2.0 litre Hybrid. Put the car in Sport mode, gear to the right and don't hold the brake like you do launch control in other cars, just floor it and off you go. 😁
Bought my CHR just over a year ago .2.0 litre Dynamic Nebula Blue, .A fantastic car with a great range.I get at least 57-67 +When I drive it sensibly with 67-70 per cent in EV and at least 47 -55 + when I'm in boy racer mode.Highly recommended.
Had my Orange edition for just over a year and am very pleased with it. It's only the wife and I in the car so lack of rear space is not an issue for us. Bought initially for the Hybrid tech, great modern looks and all the safety features. Just waiting for Toyotas full EV to appear now.
Yes on paper & driving the 2.0lt variant is a no brainier but the loss of boot space in the 2.0lt is substantial. The 1.8lt is the way to go if you need a ok sized boot.
I have a dark grey CHR GR 2021, and I'm very happy with it. They only downside I could think of is the very 2004-ish built-in nav/media system. Any cheap IPad is better than that. I use wireless Apple carplay dongle, and its OK with that.
I've been watching Rebecca's reviews for years now, every now and again when they pop up. You are just about the most consistent reviewer in modern times, and a joy to watch with your light and joyful approach, even when criticising. What would've blended you in fourty years ago is now what positively differentiates you from a pack of testosterone infused, metaphor packed clarckson enthusiasts. Thank you for being yourself. You rock!
One thing that I find irrelevant are the 0-60 mph times. How often do you go from a stop to 60 mph? Would it not be more relevant to state the 0-20 mph or 0-40 mph times? or even the 60-80 mph (for passing) times? as this is more in line with most peoples driving habits.
I’ve got a 2020 icon with a great spec and I get 70 mpg on the motorway and 80 mpg around town it’s a great car drive it how it was designed really never have to fill it up
Your computer must be wonky as you can't get that kind of mpg. It's about 50 at motorway speeds and possibly 60 ish around town at best. My overall average for the last thousand miles is just above 50 mpg.
Thought the rear doors were poor at opening , boot was small and the GR Sport models were no different in performance to any other equivalent CHR 2.0 litre. Why not just buy a black roofed Dynamic model ?
I try this C - HR GR the last Friday . Absolutely excellent care to drive ! The ride is perfect ! Toyota made the car ( from 2020 ) even more fun to drive . This one is with better suspension , sharper steering en better esolation inside .
I got this car with high expectations and was disappointed with window seals allowing air in whilst driving, which drove me nuts. The heated seating broke down after 6mths, but having said that its been fun to drive and very smooth
I have the 2017 1.8 model and I love it so I'd like to have a 2.0 chr later on. 1.8 and 2.0 chr models have the same fuel capacity - about £40 of petrol, I currently get 2 weeks of driving to work in the 1.8 and worry I'd miss that in the 2.0 when I get one.
Nothing in it I had 1.8 first and now have 2.0. Not really noticed much difference in fuel economy but the power upgrade is excellent. Would not go back to 1.8.
A panaromic roof would make this vehicle so much better than it is. With the design of the rear passenger doors it does feel somewhat dark. If I were to also look at an aesthetic update it would be the rear tail lights. Perhaps an alternative to the ever so sharp and edgy tail lights that fill the rear a bit more.
A cracking car, love our Design variant with optional 2 litre engine. Boot space is a bit limited and that's down to the body design which I love. The ride is excellent. Could do with a few more power points but I can forgive it for that.
We've ordered the same one as this, sport, white black roof, as I speak it's in transit somewhere between Turkey and the UK and 28th October delivery, maybe sooner and can't wait, its lovely to drive. 👌🏻👍🏻
They used to have a 1.2 turbo AWD version back in 2017. I bought it and still drive it to this day. I love it and am awaiting the EV version, which I am told by Toyota, is planned.
Can't believe there's no sat nav in the 1.8 Icon, it should be as standard across the line now.. the other models aren't available on Motability.. This and the fact the wheelbase is so low will definitely deter many from choosing the CHR
Sod the back seats I'd have them folded down flat and why, because I'd use it as a campercar, so that extra space comes in handy when out in the high country. Overall the 1.8 ltr would suit me as at my age I'm not a race fanatic zipping along country roads. And its got an unusual shape that is to me appealing, so yes Rebecka I'd have one as its a Hybrid.
This is a good car and easy to drive but has one big problem which was introduced in the 2021 model - Toyota have now introduced a very loud pedestrian alert noisemaker which I can hear from at least 100 meters from my house as my wife drives home. It’s a shame as other hybrid electric cars, which also have a similar system, are much quieter - I appreciate the need to have this but it is so loud. I spoke to the dealer and they admitted that when they first took delivery of the 2021 models they thought all their batch of new cars had a problem with their gearboxes which was what I originally phoned them to ask about. Unfortunately they can’t turn the sound down and it is illegal to remove the speaker.
Noone would notice if you remove the speaker though I believe some owners have put duck tape round them to quieten them. I think there are 3 of them but maybe tricky to access. The horn is also pathetic.
Thanks Rebecca as I was staring into one of these when shopping last week and its owner thought me a would be thief, so questioned my intentions. And when I explained, he mellowed somewhat, as he was a Toyota salesman from our local garage. Still without being able to give me a decent exchange rate for my Fiesta I was a bit let down shall we say. Cheers the Noo.
I currently drive a Mazda 3, If I was getting a new car it would be either diesel or hybrid. I like Mazdas new skyactiv - x engine, it seems really interesting.
When are Toyota going to get their interiors sorted out? That infotainment is like something out of the Ark.. Although they have a great reliability the prices are too high now.. I looked at the RAV4 phev but at over £50,000 for that interior I couldn't begin to consider it... I'm going to have to look at the Tesla model 3 and impressive as it is I won't be getting the space and versatility that I could have had with the RAV4...
It's certainly not family car, because of very small trunk and black interior, small windows, and large C pillar at the back, that gives you sort of a tank/armored vehicle filling!
Yes the Nissan QASHQAI will have more room inside but there is no comparison to a Nissan to a Toyota. The Qashqai isn’t a quality made car, the CH-R is.
The bodywork and doors feels flimsy. Interior very plasticky and cheap, the back seats feels extremely claustrophobic due to the small windows. It does deserve praise for exterior design and the Hybrid engine though.
Gold medal indeed but Toyota needs to improve both its infotainment systems as well as get the graphics right which have been below par on too many occasions for ages…Another excellent presentation 👏
For me the downside that really annoys me is the cheap sound of the doors closing, specially after comparing the built quality with a Lexus UX. it simply is not acceptable that hollow cheap sound when closing the front doors in a Toyota.
Having had a 1.8 chr as a gap car between my Tiguan write off and my Ateca FRS arriving I found it economical and quirky. Not as good to drive as either Vag models ,nor as spacious. Hated the cvt too , dsg for me everytime. A characterful car however as per your review.
i get 75mpg on a 2007 prius everything oem including hv battery (documented on the uk prius group) why in the world would i buy a new car when my 15 year old car does a lot better then a new car today oh lets save the planet bla bla but wait lets not have very efficient cars because we still have petrol to sell unreal where this car industry is going
I don't know why she said the interior of this car is better than Nissan. The interior of the new Qashqai is more sophisticated in my opinion. Also I don't like the 2008 because of too much excessive silver inside and out which makes it less sophisticated again.
Rebecca does a thorough review. Her beauty helps offset the second ugliest vehicle on the road, with the Honda Civic Sr being the worst. Kona with the 1.6L turbo and I.R.S. will out handle and out accelerate this while costing less.
"What exactly is the CHR?.." Well, it's an overpriced, impractical, slow, ugly, cramped, but probably reliable, little 'crossover' that only daft people buy. I should be a CarGurus reviewer 👍 Btw I'm 5foot 8 & a half

If ever a car needed a panoramic roof , this is that car.
In 2023….
@@adhdscooty ?
The new model…..rumours
first thing i said when i saw this car.Japan engineers must've been drunken or something to skip the pan roof lol
@@viper7770I prefer a darker interior so glad to not have one. I think the slope of the roof was the main reason for not having it as an option.

The TNGA chassis with its double rear wishbone suspension is the reason modern Toyota product designs from the Corolla upwards ride & handle decently.
New Toyota smart connect infotainment system & voice assistant will be available for 2022 model year ( depending on trim level )
Yes on paper & driving the 2.0lt variant is a no brainier but the loss of boot space in the 2.0lt is substantial. The 1.8lt is the way to go if you need a ok sized boot.
We hired one of these for a family holiday in Cornwall back in May. A very good car well done Toyota.

The look on your face when you pulled away said it all. My youngest daughter absolutely loves these, and I do too!

That's exactly why you HAVE to go with the 2.0 hybrid. 1.8 is *dangerously* underpowered.
I’ve got a 2020 icon with a great spec and I get 70 mpg on the motorway and 80 mpg around town it’s a great car drive it how it was designed really never have to fill it up

It's only a few miles less on the 2.0, but the extra power is a big difference. I'm considering getting the 2.0 excel with JBL next year.
So a smaller tank to offset size of battery I guess
Nothing in it I had 1.8 first and now have 2.0. Not really noticed much difference in fuel economy but the power upgrade is excellent. Would not go back to 1.8.

With the Orange edition I get around 70 mpg when driving In towns and 50 mpg cruising at 60 on motorways.
60 mph on motorway? So you’re the one causing the chaos.
Jack of all trades, but a master of non, is sometimes better that a master of 1.
Wish they had hybrid option in U.S.
Looks great, goes great, and it will be reliable. What's not to like?
Great car have had 3 of them, now have the1.8 sports and driving is superb, only the two of us so space is not a problem.

I love the look of this car never really looked at a Toyota before it’s another to add to the possible list in red though.
0-60 mph in Sport mode 7.1 Seconds 👍🏻
What’s the gear box like is it the cvt box thanks for the review
yes
Why does it have a lift kit? Is it an off road vehicle?
Sporty looking mini CUV but the backseat looks dark and cramped.
She should present more.

It is a Toyota so you can immediately cancel out Peugeot, Citroen, Renault, Ford, Nissan.
I LOVE C-HR GR Sport

Look up the Toyota BZ4X. The Toyota future from 2022.

very reliable is the CHR first class .
