I love the fact that you guys play "Whippin' Post" I saw Duane 4 times including the final weekend at the Fillmore and 9/19 at Stonybrook and I was right n under Duane for the second set.
The coolest guitarist in rock at the moment (besides RJ & Rhett of course ;-) is Scott Holiday and his badass birds. I admit, I've gotta a bit of a rock, man-crush on that guy....actually, it's more like jealousy. :-D
I think they are all brothers , them three. I mean, the singers got that beard and those glasses; the drummer just has the beard, and the bass thumper has the same glasses.
@@RhettShull That's reassuring! I just started learning guitar last summer and just got a Wolfgang for Christmas and as much as I love it I think the flloyd rose is a bit overwhelming for me at this early stage, but no other guitar really "called out to me" until that Firebird. So I really appreciate your videos dude! If you made a video going over the firebird I would be all over that!
Temperamental witches though. I had a firebird which sounded great but was always one bend/humidity shift/too loud kick drum away from going completely out of tune mid song.
Is that Tilly filming during the performances? Because she does an AWESOME JOB, she knows just where to point the camera to highlight the emotions of the songs. I really feel like I'm in the room!
I wasn't able to hear Rhett's singing at all. Those harmonies we were hearing were with the drummer. I can see Rhetts lips moving but i only was able to hear the harmonies between the drummer and singer for some reason?
For this situation, specifically, while Noah sings the main melody, Ian is doing the higher harmony while Rhett is doing the lower harmony to fill the vocal gap, making it sound fuller.
Hey Rhett. I cam up and said Hi on your Charlotte night. I just wanted to thank you for being so gracious and nice and taking the time out of your break to talk to a fellow guitarist and fan of you and your channel. You are one TOP NOTCH PROFESSIONAL. Thank you so much, Rhett. We appreciate you.
this is by far your greatest backstage journal yet. everything about this fantastic video just engrosses you into the life of a gigging musician. absolutely incredible rhett
Rhett, gotta give some credit here. That was the best sounding thing I’ve heard you do in following you a few years. You are really finding a great voice with your playing!
I watch your channel now for 3 months sinds I stopped playing metal and man you learned me allot and you are such a great and underrated player! Love your vids man. Kind regards from Belgium
That Firebird sounded great during the sound check. Also love how the finish is wearing in on Noah's Novo. Looks amazing with that sunburst coming through.
I so appreciate a channel with such high quality content, but what makes me love this channel so much, other than the obvious music stuff, is the higher volume of videos Rhett puts out. Like a great fix from a dealer that keeps on giving you the drugs (I assume, wouldn't know first hand).
"It's like I'm driving a stick-shift"...classic Rhett! What an awesome time and nothing like breakng out of your comfort zone to discover something new that you're suddenly finding yourself in love with! Really enjoyed this episode...I might have to revisit country music...maybe? Got a new ending for you...One Moment... One Life... One Chance.... One Plan! Rock on! 😎🎸🐦🤘
I swear I'm hearing a B3.. on nearly everything.... and a trio of gospel singers singin backup ("You're the only light I need....)................and that cover of Whippin Post sounds epic..... :)
Rhett, you have the kind of tone that cuts through like a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day. And man, I need to see you guys live. I live in Concord, NC. Definitely gonna watch your tour schedule close.
Man Rhett, thanks for putting out all this great content. I'm in a rut when it comes to my own guitar playing. Struggling with my chops and my Helix sounds, but whenever I hear your play through an amp or your Helix, it just makes me wanna go and pick up my guitar immediately! Keep the videos coming, man! Your tone is the goal I strive for.
"Dim Lights, Thick Smoke and Loud Loud Music" written by Joe Maphis in 1952 on his way home to LA after he stopped by a bar in Bakersfield. Yeah, I'm that old. With a little practice you guys could open for Chris Scuggs or Chuck Mead ;-)
Man, the bands harmonies are on point! Good job all the way around - playing and singing Rhett! I bought tickets to the Charlotte show and had something come up last minute and couldn't make it. Hate I missed you guys - sounded like a great show! Maybe next time around! Until then, y'all keep killing it!
So cool for you to share this with us. Your backing vocals are really sounding good, Rhett. (Don’t forget to eat the mic!). Looking forward to more of these. Great band.
Every time you post a new video I’m infinitely ecstatic that I found your channel. Thanks for all of the amazing content, brother. Also, I love the shit out of Ian.
Rhett!! You honestly made me get my shit together as a musician and just take it serious , I’ve gigged out all in 2019 but I just took it for granted and now I’ve re humbled myself into actually taking it seriously , You ever in NYC - a beer on me
Rhett, I really like what you do with this band! Great music, great writing on new tunes and great playing on covers! Everyone involved are total pros.
As a country guitarist, it’s my favorite genre to play. Good country music is fucking GOOD. Some of the best artists today are red dirt and underground country music artists. Also when I bought my first pedal steel, the first thing I did was strum the whole neck and had the same reaction. I was like “oh, yeah, that’s St. Patrick’s Day, John Mayer” Love the Eagles shirt by the way.
Nice this one.. Because it has the Bird in it. I own a custom shop Firebird V one of the reissues myself, And that is what you instantly spot when you play one and hear another one- the tone and the playing dynamics are unique. I hear the bird blend in so well here. Hat's off!
I used to listen to Dickey Betts and Bama Jam at the Daleville Inn in Daleville AL right outside the Fort Rucker gate in 1981 and their big hit was "He Stopped Lovin' Her Today"
When you guys found out there was a mechanical bull I laughed my ass off. Rhett welcome to the club brother!! My band played Club ManchVegas in Manchester, NH with people ridin the bull to Rage Against the Machine, Tool, Pantera etc..
Ah, Rett your solo with the firebird was absolutely beautiful and sounded like a great conversation to me. Lovely. Your awesome Man. I love Noah and the guys too
Rhett, I don’t know why but you look very natural with that firebird. That guitar fits you very well. Like it’s part of your persona. Like Stevie and his strat. That bird makes your stage presence. The novo is great. But you and that bird really look like a team.
I may have missed it on your channel but I'd love to hear some of your in-ear mixes during a performance or rehearsal if you have the ability to share it. I'm not very familiar with the in-ear but have become very interested in learning how different musicians use the monitors.
Great idea, I would also be interested in hearing Rhett's in-ear mixes. I've recently been using IEM-s instead of wedges and have been struggling a bit with feeling "disconnected" during the performance (due to noise isolation etc), especially if my guitar's loud and clear in the IEM-s. It seems to work better for me when I can hear the entire band and my guitar is lower in the mix, but I recently heard Frusciante's in-ear mix (available in TH-cam) and it was the complete opposite (guitar very prominent, quiet bass and almost no vocals).
There are many great guitarists out there, but Rhett is currently my favorite guitar player to listen to. And his videos are like a free education in guitars, related gear, and guitar lessons. BTW - The cover of Whipping Post was great. The vocal harmonies we get to hear in this video are fantastic.
Whipping post was so good live. I was there at Coyote Joe's, got a strat pickguard signed by Rhett and Noah. I would highly recommend attending a show for anyone that can, it's worth it.
Rhett, this video has some of the best playing I’ve ever heard from you. That slide solo was so in the pocket, damn. Really liked thebfirebird tone, seemed a bit smoother in the high end than the novo.
My first video course, The Tone Course, is now available. Check it out here!

Firebirds are insta-cool, like a good leather jacket.
I feel like a new man with the bird

Went to med school. Live vicariously through you guys.
Wouldn’t change. But you guys have more fun!
I are one, too
That bass player better grow a beard quickly if he's wants to keep his job.
I believe he is going for the ironic look like ZZ top's Frank Beard lol
peter cushion ironically he reminds me of Link from Rhett and Link
I think they are all brothers , them three. I mean, the singers got that beard and those glasses; the drummer just has the beard, and the bass thumper has the same glasses.
that bass player is damned smooth and solid....bass players are seldom fully appreciated for how they affect the band...and i'm a guitar player...
.....and slap
I think I'm going to start saving for a firebird, that's a beautiful instrument
They are like a fine bitchy woman Pain in the ass and so worth it!!

Yes, when its not Rhett filming, and when Tilly is there, she takes the reins.
I wish more people could appreciate the beauty of the sound of a pedal steel, outside of the expected Nashville-based crew.
Hey, Rhett's singing! Those harmonies sounded good.
I wasn't able to hear Rhett's singing at all. Those harmonies we were hearing were with the drummer. I can see Rhetts lips moving but i only was able to hear the harmonies between the drummer and singer for some reason?
Rhett's singing a lower harmony.... it's there... I hear it.

Dude, that rendition of Whipping Post was Killer!
Year old comment but for real dude they killed that
It ain’t easy... trying to fit in between 2 great singers, the drummers harmonies are top notch. I applaud yall it’s a collaborative effort
