Summertime outdoor gigs in Texas are no joke. I'm a Texas guy and I've played plenty of brutal 3+hr outdoor gigs in the dead of summer. Your amp gets so hot you could fry bacon on it. Stay hydrated, y'all!
You must come to Sevilla in Spain, yesterday we had 110 ºF, and humidity...jejejeje. Literally, after lucnh nobody is on the streets until 9 or 10 pm when a lot of people goes to have a cold beer . Welcome to hell...!! :D
Man you should come play in Italy during the summer is so wet that it feel like being inside of a pool I had to adjust the thruss rod during the break lol
@@tomandtheoutlaws I saw his video! I was thinking more along the lines of the costs and things for a supporting act and all that entails. Just another perspective :)
Watching you guys figure out the song from 6:00 to 9:00 was my favorite part. Just how you all throw out ideas and try stuff until it just clicks. That was really awesome to watch.
It was awesome to see you guys live in Austin! I'm drenched in sweat at the front between the wedges with the flamingo shirt. I bailed immediately after your set, it was too hot even at 8PM.
You guys are such a great live band! Survivors is the heaviest thing you guys have done yet! Please, when you record these songs in the studio, please record it all live off the floor, your sound is like no other! You guys sound so tight! Keep rockin'! Sending love from New Zealand!
I have been a fan for a number of years now, and I can say that this rehearsal segment at the start of the video is the thing I've appreciated and enjoyed most, ever. It's great to see how a band of pro's build an idea and how they sound at their rawest. Fantastic. Wish you made more of those.
Loved this video! The "YESSSSSS"! moments in rehearsals are priceless when the band does something inspirational and you get that emotional excitement that lifts you up. Great Band Guys!
First, the band is fantabulous!! I hope to see you live someday. Second, playing in New Mexico in the summer is no joke. We demanded some kind of shade and eventually bought a gig tent. Keep the flame alive!
Hi Rhett, you guys are sounding great. I always get a new appreciation of all you go through to do a show and develop new material when you do this type of show...keep rockin’ bros!
Thanks for sharing! The scenes in the basement where you were arranging new songs was very interesting, and it was great to see the final product too. Keep up the good work.
Glad to see the backstage journal is back! Lots of time rehearsing, traveling, dealing with vehicles etc but man, when the first chord hits on the first live show at 19:22 I could feel the energy! And I love the crunch in that amp.
Thanks I've missed these! Your words hit home at the end about counting yourself lucky to have those opportunities. I agree... definitely a blessing we're thankful for ourselves.
Favorite moment when y’all were working on that jam it started to really come together around 9 minutes an y’all were getting into it!! So much badassnes we in one room. Love the energy
That guy has a great voice, btw. I need to check out more of his stuff. Happy to see a fellow heavy brother having success in the music biz. Good for him. That voice is undeniable.
Your “what is the {insert amp/guitar/pedal} sound” series is really good also but these backstage journals and the insight into life as a touring musician is IMO the best part of your channel. Keep it up you guys are sounding really good. Need to setup more live basement shows with Deacon Knight now that the space can be used
Can't wait for the video series on you building this awesome studio space! It's gonna be a rad studio! you guys sound so dope even with out any treatment down there!
You got super lucky, cause it's going to be 108 today : ) That said, please come back and do more shows in Texas....wasnt able to make this one but hoping to catch another run through of you guys. Play Grenada Theatre. Awesome music, vocals and appreciate the teachings of Rhett and vlogs.
Beautiful. One of the best tour diaries I've seen. Love the new songs. I keep looking for this music to listen to, but I can't find it. Has Noah not released this stuff yet? Really cool to see how you guys worked out the new song and then executed it. Nicely done. I'll be going back to working 12 hours on a chemical plant on Monday for 7 days straight. Thanks for sharing this on my day off!
Amazing to watch you guys go with an idea from rehearsal room to stage. Great performances! Also, I am really surprised that the Quad Cortex did not overheat/die in those conditions.
Watching y'all do your thing, and especially arranging the new song, makes me miss the band days. That thing when the magic happens. Then y'all load up and play it the next day. Color me impressed. Well done! Thank you, Rhett 🙏
First time I've commented here. You guys are going in the right direction. Sounding better than ever. Starting to build a real energy I haven't seen before. Stay on it. Continue to reach outside the box.
Rhett, seeing the band practice together and have fun is awesome!!! If you can please post more of your sessions practicing, it's sick, great playing as always :D
Great video Rhett, loved it. Oh the life of a gigging musician!!!! . Most of the audience hasn't got a clue about what goes on behind the scenes! The band just materialises out of thin air and then fades away again!!
I'm curious what you do with your guitars between soundcheck and performance? I'm guessing it would be a tuning nightmare to take them into the AC once they've acclimated to the heat, only to bring them back out again.
Spent many years playing outdoor gigs in Houston and Dallas, brutally hot in the sumer. Have had to stop because of heat exhaustion a couple of times. Played on the pier at Galveston Island, so humid that water was dripping off our instruments, had pedals stop working from the moisture! Good times!
Yo Rhett!!! I know the studio isn’t finished but it kinda already has a vibe lol. I mean am I crazy 😂 let me know man. Have a great tour with the boys man!!!
YOU GUYS KILLED IT WITH THE COVER OF THE WHIPPING POST! AND I LIKE THE NEW SONG, STRIKE A MATCH SET A FIRE....OR SURVIVORS....I LIKE WHAT YOU GUYS DID IN THE BEGINNING TO SET IT OFF...AND YOU CAN SEE THE HUMIDITY IN THE AIR, MUST BE HARD TO PLAY, HANDS ALL SLIPPERY, HOW DID YOU KEEP A PICK IN YOUR HAND?
Thank you for the video. It was great footage and up close and personal. It helped reaffirm my choice to not perform live anymore and limit my musical interactions to the studio as I had decided. All of it brings back memories of discomfort and misery I don't want to deal with anymore.
Just did back to back, outdoor, midday gigs here in Arizona last weekend...ooof. Had 2 different backups for everything in case things melted down. Thankfully everything held up except my scorched skin.
I've done a few festivals where the stage is facing west. Not only heat but sunlight directly into your eyes, sunglasses and sunscreen for everyone! Lol. You need to save those southern state gigs for spring and fall, go north for the summers.
Love love love the Backstage Journal series! Also love the cool little cinematic touch for the airport and flight scenes. You really top yourself on each Backstage Journal! One day our channel will be up there with yours and Beatos!
Finally, its been a long time coming… We are all so glad to see you and the boys back in action 🙌🏼 please keep the vlogs going for as long as you can they are always inspiring thx😁.
I hope to be able to play gigs like this at some point. I’ve had my share of theater gigs, but nothing major. It’s good to see that live music is still going strong
Literally just moved from Austin to the east coast. I know exactly what you went through in that humidity. I grew up down there. Sad to have missed the shows!
the more videos of band practices that I see across the internet, the more I realize that every band practice is the same. and it's amazing. Just thinking about hendrix's practices or the dead, or nirvana, or kendrick lamar, or celine dion or anyone. someones crackin jokes or getting pumped about a new idea. I love music
Man I totally feel you on your statement at the end of the video. The only time I feel like I am doing what I'm supposed to is on stage when the band is tight and the crowd is right there with us. I have an audition in a couple weeks, after a 10 year hiatus from music. Rock on!!
Great video and great finish with the Survivor. Keep them coming Rhett, since i was playing live with a band for couple of years, i love watching these videos. They bring back some nice memories. :)
111 in OKC today. Absolutely BRUTAL. A w/Night Ranger show in Louisville! Sweet! I was jammin' to 'Sing Me Away' while mowing the yard early this morning. Just had in on loop - about 12 times. Man, I wish I lived closer.

Man you should come play in Italy during the summer is so wet that it feel like being inside of a pool I had to adjust the thruss rod during the break lol
Noah’s voice is even better than last time I heard him - his tone is killer.
What is the name of this band?
Noah Guthrie and Good Trouble.
I get a raspy, better range… Dylan type of vibe. It works.
They should have their band name prominently displayed on all media. Why don’t they?
Yes that's a dream gig right there !
These vlogs are the reason I started watching your channel. So glad to see them back!
They are very very good! We do a similar thing on our channel if you’d like to check it out!
Ditto
Yup. Same here
Same!
Hey Rhett, in the future could we get a video featuring touring costs and how a show like this is funded/budgeted for? Thanks!
X2
Up
Please
Adam Neely has recently done a video on touring costs and is really interesting and terrifying.
@@tomandtheoutlaws I saw his video! I was thinking more along the lines of the costs and things for a supporting act and all that entails. Just another perspective :)
Man, Noah writes some great songs. That arrangement you all worked out on “Survivor” really hits.
Great show you guys put on.
Love the backstage journal series so much. Rhett and Noah compliment each other perfectly.
We do a similar thing on our channel if you’d like to check it out!
These are the videos we've been waiting for, Backstage Journal vlogs are some of the best content on TH-cam. Cheers Rhett, looking forward to more!
I think it's awesome. Love the practices.
We do a series called Road Diary, gigging around southern Missouri! Check it out!
True
Watching you guys figure out the song from 6:00 to 9:00 was my favorite part. Just how you all throw out ideas and try stuff until it just clicks. That was really awesome to watch.
Noah has such an awesome voice. You guys are a great band.
Thanks Sean!
It was awesome to see you guys live in Austin! I'm drenched in sweat at the front between the wedges with the flamingo shirt. I bailed immediately after your set, it was too hot even at 8PM.
Thanks for coming Cody!
Great hearing you guys playing together and HEATING it up there in Texas! 🌄🌅🤘🎸😎🎵🎶
You guys are such a great live band! Survivors is the heaviest thing you guys have done yet! Please, when you record these songs in the studio, please record it all live off the floor, your sound is like no other! You guys sound so tight! Keep rockin'! Sending love from New Zealand!
couldnt agree more great sound overall if there was a keyboard in there band to that would be epic too add a new layer of potential
The rehearsal footage is just so fun! Thanks for keeping those long "figuring it out" sections, in there!
I have been a fan for a number of years now, and I can say that this rehearsal segment at the start of the video is the thing I've appreciated and enjoyed most, ever. It's great to see how a band of pro's build an idea and how they sound at their rawest. Fantastic. Wish you made more of those.

Of all the great content I've watched on your channel, the first 12 minutes is my favorite video so far! Thanks for letting us see that come together.
I was at y’all’s Round Rock show and yall killed it!! Your rig sounded HUGE out in the crowd! So cool to see y’all live! 🤘🏼
That new (first track) you were arranging turned out stellar 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

THE GUITAR, VOCALS, AND BAND SOUNDS GREAT.
Great to see you guys together and playing again! (Also love the blues face on the Survivor solo)
Love being on stage with you ...even if just getting the vibe of it all through your video
You guys writing is sparking my creativity! Sounding great. Can't wait to hear the completed tunes.
Thanks for sharing! The scenes in the basement where you were arranging new songs was very interesting, and it was great to see the final product too. Keep up the good work.
I love Noah's voice too... add great quality to the band... you are all awesome
I'm always impressed at how good the audio sounds in your videos like this.
Agreed totally. Would love to know how he does it! I think he just has a splitter on his In Ear Monitor mix.
@@somebodysdog9235 He has done a video on it, Can't remember what it is call but like you said he just has a split from the in ear mix.

This is the stuff we've been dying to see and hear! Well done, and keep it coming, Rhett. Love the Matchless!
We make similar content to Rhett’s awesome Backstage Journals! Hope to be as good as him one day!
Rhett, you should do a video on how to do a proper soundcheck...like hand signals, when to play, when not to play, what to play, etc.
You guys were KILLIN' it!!
Good to see you lads back at it! Y'all sound like a band I'd love to mix 🤘🏼
I love these backstage journal vids. I’m a newer sub but I went back at watched all the other ones. Hopefully there will be more soon!
That riff in the survivor song kind of reminds me of the riff in Bad Company’s “feel like making love.”
I played an outdoor gig on a patio in Tucson Arizona last week. It was 106° at 5 o’clock on the started.
Rhett, best logo ever. Thanks for sharing your journey. God bless you.
Great video-the practice, the tour,
All of it.
It’s ‘South Padre’ BTW… (I grew up in Houston and went down almost every spring break).
Congrats guys on getting back out there! I'm sorry I missed y'all while you guys were so close! Kudos on surviving our gig weather! Well done :)
So great to see you again guys. 🤓👏🏻👍🏻 Thanks for sharing.
