    Jonny, don't forget to cover your seed trays. I use a wire mesh, otherwise the varmints (mice, chipmunks, birds) will have a feast on the new seedlings! I enjoy your videos very much.

      Thanks for that - I did end up temporarily covering them with upside down webbed trays and plan to switch that to wire mesh for a longer term solution.

    You started your videos with little benches and few seeds and now you're as crazy as I am 😅 Growing Japanese maples from seeds can be very addictive

    I am a new subscriber to your channel. Enjoying your videos. I have collected a bunch of seeds and have them planted in trays. I have been following your tips. PS: what do you think about the USDA hardiness zones updating this year? I went from a zone 7b to an 8a!

      Thanks - My zone appears to have stayed the same thankfully!

    thanks for sharing. looking forward to seeing the updates for these seeds next season. do you cover the trays with wire screen or something to keep the birds and rodents away from the seeds?

    Awesome video! I learned so much on exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!! If you don't have a bunch of seeds collected, what is the best way to acquire them? I also happen to be in a zone 8 and have a young tree getting established in a new climate. It is only about 2 feet tall. Should I leave it to the elements this winter or make a little plastic greenhouse around it? Thank you so much for this wonderful information. I want to make a greenhouse like yours and grow many Japanese Maples. Cheers!

      You can find some seeds on Etsy. In Zone 8, I would leave the tree outside - it will do just fine.

    Hi there, thanks for all the info. I pulled some baby J maples from my yard this spring, but how do you care for them during the winter. I’m worried about them surviving the winter months if I am successful with them this summer. Thanks

    Had a question that I can’t get a strait answer for. I want to try winter hardwood Japanese maple cuttings. Is a heat mat a must? What happens if you bring inside for winter. Will it mess up the natural cycle of the plant?

    • @JonnyMaple
      @JonnyMaple  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Winter hardwood cuttings do NOT need heat. However, your success rate with hardwood Acer palmatum cuttings will be very low to 0%. Summer growth cuttings under mist will have a much higher success rate.
