Got a Peugeot 207gti with crazy fuel trims (28%) as it’s my car I decided to change all sensors regardless of If they were good or not and now doing timing, this video was a life saver as the instructions were terrible
Great video Dave. And even better with captions on, struggling with the accent. Camchains = cow-house, timing chain = dimin chin, practically nothing = crackling nozzle, pulley wheels = pretty riddles ... 😂
Hi Dave, If you're still using this platform, that was/is a brilliant exposition on this engine . I justt recently bought a 2011 Peugeot 3008, 1.6 petrol model, with only 49,000 mikes on tge clock. Ran fine, i.e., no bad noises, engine fault light on, but obvious miss on the engine when running. Mechanic Diagnostic, 'One cylinder no power' 'No Compression on cylinder 3' removed engine cover, 3rd spring on induction side has popped & the small pistons were out of their pockets & sitting on the head, with 1x valve slightly bent and appears to be stuck open. Also, there's some water contamination of the oil sitting around the top of the head. Not sure yet why, a) head gasket? or b) cracked head. In the meantime, now looking for replacement engine, with reasonable milage, so...following much searching, I finally found you. Can you, or any followers here advise, what models would provide the best fit for this immaculate 2011 3008 envy? Many Thanks for the very clear & precise, detailed, direction/guidance on this engine. 👍😊
Absolutely love this video, recently got a 208 gti and learned more about this engine than I needed to, thanks for been so informative man, you really know your engines buddy.
Super helpful video. After watching this, I discovered that my intake and exhaust were both off by a few degrees in opposite directions because I didn't put the cam locking tools in correctly (and the middle lifted on tightening), and because the cam locking tools had a little bit of play allowing the cams to rotate slightly when tightening the stretch bolts. I made the mistake of not holding the cams with the 27mm wrench. Anyway, thanks for this. It really helped me to understand my N14 that much better.
Hi Dave, I've another question for you, I'm right in the middle of this Job now on the EP6 5FW 1.6 with double Vanos, Peug 207cc, &ready to rebuild, but I noticed you had said you have left the crank sprocket tight and not touched that but you/we would usually replace a chain with it loose? So was just a bit confused there as to what difference in the 2 ways, as I thought the crank sprocket needed to rotate a bit in order to take up the slack around the chain during tensioning? So do I torque it up (the crank bolt) before chain tensioner installed or leave it loose? So at what point in the build do you tighten/torque up the crank bolt? Before the chain and the tensioner is fully installed or after? Thanks so much, Dave.
@@davesterl Thanks Dave, great tutorial, Thanks so much for your help and replies, done a few cambelts no problems but this is my 1st chain on a very fussy engine by all accounts!
Yeah I've just fitted a whole new chain kit and changed the solenoids but still not right, still blames exhaust cam (P0014 and P11A8) took for a run really sluggish, rechecked timing with locking tools which is bang on 100%. Now looking towards dephaser pulley and the oil seal rings behind it, any ideas ? Thanks!
Wow involved... impressive patience and tenacity Dave. P.S... it’s understandable your irritation with people asking for you todo their leg work. Cheers Pal
cheers ian, around the houses a wee bit at first with this one chasing a mixture fault, btw i got your number but it shows your'e not on watsapp. Yeah fed up with commenters asking me to email them workshop manuals as just one example
Great information. Could you confirm, is there no seal between the vanos and the camshaft? And secondly, are the vanos wheels in the locked position at idle? And then advanced when required at 2500 plus rpm, depending on load etc?
Firstly this video is brilliant and helps a lot but this probably a silly question but would you get the same result using your original timing tool kit? I’m looking to buy a tool kit but your newer Amazon tool kit doesn’t list my Citroen c4 thp as compatible where you’re original kit does 🤷🏻♂️
love the video. we own a thp 156 engine with only 40,000 miles. the power is totally crap. recently new time chain too. I hooked up a diagnostic. short and long fuel trim banks were in spec, but i notices the intake manifold pressure was 0.34 bar? i guess thats 34 kpa? is that normal? i see it was at 96 on your diagnostics. any hints? thanks
Brilliant video , thanks for sharing your knowledge. I am going to do head gasket on Peugeot thp 1.6 on weekend and will follow your advise with pre T chain tensioner. Can I ask if I need to hold tensioner piston in while installing by holding the chain guide or just tighten down. Tks
Great vid Dave. I've watched it a few times now as I've had a timing chain on an N18 and you have some good reference points. I have a question about timing up from the crank. The timing was totally out on my engine so took the head off. The set up with this engine moves the middle 2 pistons together and the outer 2 pistons together. I understand all pistons need to be level but wanted to ask how do you know which pistons should be going up first; the outer 2 or inner 2? Many thanks
So what's the link to.... just kidding Dave! Excellent video! Great explanations! I completely understand the reasoning of not using the pretension tool, it makes sense not to and instead use the actual tensioner. One of my favorite videos by you so far!
I have the exact same issue on the same car Dave. New timing chain kit was fitted a month ago but surely it should be in time? Anyway I'm getting the rocker replaced by Rodney Fleck so should be an opportunity to check if it's in time? I'm sure he'll do other tests to rule anything else out.
Thanks Dave for this tremendous video ! One question : how do you make sure that the camshaft sprocket dephasers are fitted correctly ? We have an arrow on each sprocket (under the teeth / oposite side). In my opinion this arrow should point down / vertical.
Do you put the tensioner in and torque it down and then torque down the pulleys and crank or does the tensionor need to be torqued down after the pulleys/crank?
Hi Dave amazing video just a question. When I have the cams in the correct position the locking pin won't go in. So when I get the pin in then the cams are slightly out how can I fix this? Thanks appreciate it.
@@davesterl so I did the same as you with the screwdriver to the cam and not quite straight. Locking pin in at that point. What's the best way loosen them
If the codes on the cams are not in the same position would that indicate timing well out? I've already did my chain but im assuming it has jumped as it's not starting at all. The writing on the cams is at least 90 degrees off. Edit: No codes in PP2000 either only thing I can see that could be relative is "status of the coherence between inlet camshaft and crankshaft positions - not coherent"

Lock the assembly by means of a lock nut ("q").
Hi Dave I'm having a mare with a 2008 207cc 78k 1.6 hp (NOT Thp) with 2 Vanos pulleys. I want to remove tensioner to check it as having bad running and chain noise when hot, but noise instantly stops on a restart, until driven again for a minute then returns. Fault code P11A8 and also had a completely worn away top chain guide, which I've just replaced. Anyway, as i unscrew the tensioner it hits the throttle body which is simply in the way. What do I have to do next? Surely not have to remove the intake just to change the tensioner?! 2 x solenoids cleaned & tested. This is as far as I've got. Any other ideas? Thanks, David.
