  • A F20 powered 960HP Honda S2000 work whip/drag car. This man is living the dream.
    At the latest TX2K we caught up with Stuart Leiby of T1 Race to talk about his excellently presented, Nyan Cat approved F20 Powered Honda S2000 drag car, that he also drives to work a few days a week.
    The car runs a ‘beefed up’ Honda F20 that had a casual 120,000 miles on the block before modification. The block has Golden Eagle Mfg sleeves to ensure it survives the 960HP output at 42 PSI of boost from the Precision 64-66 turbocharger along with Pauter Rods, CP Carrillo pistons, Brian Crower cam, Ferrea valve train components with copper valve seats and head work done by Watshop? A factory Honda crank and head gasket are used, but Inline Pro 12mm head studs are used to help it all stay together.
    A MoTeC M130 and C127 dash take care of the engine management and monitoring while a Quaife 6 speed sequential box helps get power to the ground along with the RPS carbon clutch, Magnus Motorsports flow control valve, RSS 5.9 axles, carbon driveshaft and Nissan R200 rear end. Ignite red, an E90 ethanol fuel blend is fed to the F20 via a set of Injector Dynamics ID1000 primary injectors and ID1700 secondaries via a brushless fuel pump.
    Stuart talks to Andre about how he can double the boost pressure on a prepared surface like that at Texas 2K compared to what can be run on the street, and traction control is also discussed along with his clutch slipper system. Also touched on is how the Honda 6 speed was stubbornly held onto until 600HP before switching to the Quaife box in order to maintain some reliability. Solid effort!

      So every other engine is inferior by your logic? Most domestic 4 cylinder engines don't require expensive sleeving of the block and easily reach the same numbers with the same mods (rod, pistons, valve train upgrades, head studs and camshafts). I have yet to see a cast crank break in anything, forgings are good for high rpm. You don't need to spin it to the moon to make power with a turbocharger.

    • @hpa101
      @hpa101  5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @Anthony Thomas I didn't read that as anyone saying any other engines were inferior mate. You don't have to like them, but it's fine for others to state they are fans of Honda engines if they're fans of Honda engines. We're all aware there are also other engine manufacturers out there in the world ;) - Taz.

      @@dj4monie Really? Which 'domestic' engines do you have in mind - remember, that is generally a term for those produced by the manufacturers of that country and, since many "JDM" engines are also manufactured ith e US, the UK, Europe, etc, that can cover a lot of territory.

      @@gordowg1wg145 i believe he's talking about the legendary 4 cylinder domestic engines that came out in the model year 2000 when honda came out with the S2000, examples include the dodge neon, chevrolet cavalier, and ford focus. Those were stout engines producing upto 130HP at only 5k rpm. 0-60 time was respectable however 1/4 mile times were rarely documented as the cars were a real POS and would break down around the 1/8 mile. The constant towing of said domestic 4cyl engine POS cars gave rise to modern day truck and SUV market that now dominates the US car industry.#how it all began

      It all depends, if you don't mind adjusting your valvetrain every so often to keep peak performance because items do wear, then it's a good option if high rpm is needed. IMHO but all out race cars even need that, but many don't.

    • @boosthit811
      @boosthit811 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Normally go that way if wanting to increase rpm by more than 1k. Depends on specific engine. You would do it to make the new (higher) rpm limit more reliable.

      He works at T1. Even then how would it cost $100,000? You must have failed at math in HS. The turbo is about $2,500, Motec for the car is another $2500 plus whatever add-ons, maybe $500. Rod/Pistons, about $1200, head work and valvetrain parts another $1500. Even the transmission is maybe $3000-$4000 and that still doesn't add up to $100,000. I'd say less than $30K including what he paid for the S2K in the first place.
