    Hi David, I just found your channel - very inspiring. My wife has MS - about 30 years now, and she is progressively losing ability. She is also legally blind. But we have a pair of Greenspeed Anura trikes - the ones with the delta configuration, and they are linked together so I can steer and lead and she can enjoy the scenery from the caboose. We find there are always ways to get out and enjoy exercise if you have the motivation, and the trikes have been a blessing. They are pretty unique - together they are quite long, and the usual comment from people is "she's not pedalling!" to which I reply, Is she smiling? And she always is. Thankyou again for the inspiration. 👍🇦🇺

    I've said it before, but like you, I'll say it again, you are an inspiration!
    I had 2 knee surgeries and had to stop riding for 15 yrs until I found 'bents. I started on 2 wheels and a year ago after another 2 knee surgeries, went to trikes. I love riding them for the same reason as you, it keeps my mind off of the pain and the day to day problems in life. People who know about the surgeries or who notice the scars always ask "doesn't it hurt?". Yes, but focusing on the pain, or complaining about the pain, does absolutely NOTHING to help, so why make yourself (or those who have to listen to u complain) miserable! An old martial arts instructor of mine told me once "any movement, no matter how small it seems, is better than no movement" and he was right. Moving helps keep pain away, helps keep mobility, etc.
    While I can't even imagine what it's like being diagnosed with terminal cancer, you keep yourself positive all the time, keep riding and keep making these videos that inspire a LOT of people! We all hope that you get some respite and can keep it up for years to come!

    • @DavidRidesaTrike
      @DavidRidesaTrike  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Alan and thanks! I agree with your martial arts teacher. Movement is SO important! Every time I'm out riding my trike the thought goes through my mind that I could do this forever. I don't feel sick, I don't feel much pain, I just feel good! So many people ask me how I can ride when I'm going through chemo and have this diagnosis. I try to explain to them that I don't ride because I'm supposed to. I ride because it truly makes me feel good. Unfortunately, so many of them just don't get it.

  • @tomboyd9053

    Movement definitely makes me feel better. I remember when I was getting ready for my first hip replacement. I actually had adjusted to my limitations and kept on playing basketball uo to the night before my surgery. Family members would ask me how I could do that. Well... I was in pain before I would play and I would be in pain afterwards. No big deal!
    I became an assistant basketball coach at the junior high level (7 - 9th grade) after my hip replacements and retirement. I actually started running again and playing basketball with our high school varsity team. The night before my first left knee replacement, I ran some games with the varsity team. I remember coming back to open gym practice using my walker. The players were concerned and asked me if I had hurt myself. "Nope, just had a TKR!" They were surprised that I had just been running with them a week or so before.
    Tomorrow is the anniversary of my first left knee replacement (July 26, 2011).
    I took up recumbent trike riding after I had my 2nd (revision) left knee replacement and back fusion in 2013... I knew I had to find a way to continue to exercise and move to improve my overall health.
    You've inspired me, David, and continue to do so during these times. Keep moving and Keep on Triking! 🙏🙏🙏

      Hi Tom. I agree with you on how important movement is. I think a lot of people do't realize the mental and emotional benefits one gets from an extended period of movement. It seems that those of us who have discovered this "secret" are in general, happier human beings.
      Thanks and happy anniversary!

    Best to you, David. I'm still riding bicycles, but I get the same release from everyday worries and afflictions when I go riding. I don't have cancer - at least not yet - but my mother died of breast cancer at age 53, and my father of congestive heart failure at age 80. I'm now 70. Don't know what lies ahead, but I know Dad had already gone through 2 quadruple bypass surgeries by the time he was my age. I think cycling, and running while I could still do it (torn peroneal tendon 20 years ago) have spared me from his heart issues. I definitely know that cycling relieves my stress. Thanks for sharing your triking adventures - very much appreciated. I hope you can stay out of pain as much as possible. This is hard.

      I completely agree with you about riding relieving stress. Most of my doctors have commented on how stress free I am given my situation and past medical situations. Your words of wisdom are wise for all of us, even those without daunting diagnoses like you have. In reality, we are all living here on a finite amount of time, and while your situation does indeed bring all this to a potential psychological boiling point of anxiety, the reality of things is that even the healthiest of us have a time limit, an exit date if you will. While some might think this type of thinking is negative and can lead to a depressed state of mind, I think just the opposite, as you also seem to do, and we use this unsettling knowledge of our finite existence as a means to make the most of our hours, days, weeks, months, and years. Yes, trikes can help us all feel at peace with our situations, and even though trike rides are fleeting events, they help us all enjoy what we have while we have it. Most of us never appreciate what we do have in our amazing life forces until it is too late, until we are faced with the unthinkable approach of our demise, and this is sad, leading to a cheapening of life. Your messages keep us focused on the precious, yet fragile, essence of who we are, and I have found them valuable in my own daily happenings, and on my trike rides. We have this one life, which is not a dress rehearsal, so we might as well have as much fun and enjoyment as often as possible, and this community of triangular misfits finds some of that enjoyment and fun in tricycles! Take it easy ... Take a trike!

      Hi Steve. As usual, I agree with you on all of this. Living your life NOW is so important. One thing I've discovered in my many medical voyages is that the simple joys in life really are the best. @@DavidRidesaTrike I read a book by philosopher Eckhart Tolle years ago, called "A New Earth", in which he talks about the power of NOW. His thoughts really hit home for me, and I make them the underpinning of my existence. I was so taken by his writings, and found so much personal comfort in them, that I wrote a book of my own along the same lines, as I dealt with how to peacefully navigate my own thoughts of my end date. Long ago, I was a Born Again Christian, and found the peace in supernatural ways, but through the ins and outs of life, I am no longer embracing those beliefs (which I explained in detail in the book) - So, I sought a natural means of living in peace knowing that I am a finite being and will check-out at some point. Essentially, with that book, I put into words my own self help guide so I could handle the biggest nemesis of human life.
