David, you are such an inspiration. I am 66 years old and it was becoming difficult for me to take the long walks I used to love. I bought a Catrike 4 months ago, and it has opened a whole new world of fun, exercise and adventure for me. I absolutely LOVE my trike - it has added so much quality to my life. Good morning David, I think you know I am almost 23 years out from Chemo & doing well now. Today I am sitting in the waiting room where my wife of almost 40 years is getting her 6th round of Chemo. This, after taking care of me all these years is not what I had in my mind for her for sure. But the treatment is working and I know she will make it thru this and be fine in the long run. Watching your video here reinforced many things I have also learned during my treatment as well. Thank you so much for keeping us focused on the good stuff of life and making sure to enjoy each and every day. Take care and keep riding, I know I will.

Well, I'm not so sure about the first part but I hope I do!
Just found your channel and have two observations...my father is 92, was given 6 months with stage 4 lung cancer. That was 3-1/2 years ago and you are correct it's all about continuing the fight. Second, I had to stop riding my bike because of a slipped disc in my neck causing excruciating pain. I bought a Terra Trike and now ride pain free 6 days a week. Riding my trike is almost some type of meditation, very relaxing. Something I never experienced on my bike. Blessings and prayers for you 🙏❤️
Thanks so much! And may your father have many more good years. I totally agree with you on riding the trike almost being a form of meditation. I have found myself on rides where I realize I've ridden to a spot and I don't quite remember passing things along the way. It's not a frightening experience. My mind just stops all the thought for a few minutes and I just pedal along. When this happens I always very exceptionally refreshed and good. As I've said in many of my videos, I could go out feeling lousy and within a very short time riding the trike, I feel great. It does seem to have recuperative powers.

Your fighting spirit is an example to us all. You have inspired me to keep on living and keep on looking forward - not that I am in any way looking to end my life, but you can give up and sit out the years, and so many do. Maybe sitting out the years on a trike is a good way 👍🇦🇺

I had a couple of A-Fib issues. They did a CT and a MRI of my brain (Yes, they found that I have a brain), numerous blood draws, and a heart catheterization. I have to return to the hospital once an ablation can be scheduled. Until then, I'll be treated with medications.
I had an ablation a couple of years ago for A-Flutter that was successful. The heart catheterization showed no heart disease... Good news! I need a good recumbent trike ride to clear my mind. 🙂
@@tomboyd9053 A good trike ride repairs a lot that's wrong with us - at least emotionally. Hopefully the heart issue will not be anything too serious.

For myself what most caught my attention is your refusal to look at yourself as a victim.
Like myself after a severe stroke 16 years ago decided that my stroke shouldn’t be considered something bad.
I named it my “stroke of luck” and deal with life the best I can.

I occasionally tell people that I feel fortunate for all I've gone through because it's done so much to teach me what's important in life and how to deal with difficult situations. It's what we do after these life-altering events that is what matters. I have a feeling you COMPLETELY understand this!

Got my first recumbent trike shortly after the stroke. An ICE model T as it was called. Last year I got a catrike 559 with a Bfgang bottom bracket Motor. With this configuration I can go up dirt roads and visit places I never thought I’d ever see you again. The sense of freedom is exhilarating!
@@elanmorpurgo8425 I figured you were but you know what they say about assuming.And yes, the doors that e-assist opens are incredible. I feel like I can go pretty much anywhere. And get back home too!

I so agree about music, motion and joy as the trifecta of life. I’ll add humor though it might be tough in some cases. BTW, I’m going to send a text to Elon Musk to make sure his space junk does land on your trike, at least while you’re riding it.

I like the way your DJI Pocket camera follows you with a motion pan when you did the ride-by shot near the beginning of the video - very nice! In fact, the entire opening sequence is very professional and enjoyable. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Steve. Actually, that clip of me riding was done with my GoPro Max 360 camera. The DJI wouldn't be able to detect my face from that distance, lock on it and follow it. The 360 shoots 360° around itself and I can edit it however I want in post.
@@DavidRidesaTrike You definitely have some advanced technology equipment. My two cameras are just standard regular ones that require more thinking and work on my part to get unusual and captivating shots. I was going to get the DJI Pocket like yours last year, but a significant percentage of reviewers talked about needing to register the camera with the company using their software or else it would stop functioning after five uses. They concurred that the company was too personally invasive for them, and I think they said a cell phone was necessary for some aspect of registration (if I remember correctly). There was something that was required that I did not have anyway, so I finally decided to remove it from my Amazon cart and stick with my two old fashioned cameras 😀

@@EZSteve Yes, you do have to register the camera but if you don't have a cell phone you can just call their 800 and register it. A lot of people get quite paranoid over things like this but they just want to know when a product becomes "active" and where in the world it's being used. Basic marketing information.
@@DavidRidesaTrike I have had several digital cameras over the years, and there was an option to register if so inclined, but I never did. I am sure there is nothing nefarious about the company and registration, but still, it seems like marketing strategies these days have gone too far with regards to user privacy, even thought it is probably quite innocent. I always like new toys, especially after seeing what you have been doing with your camera visuals, but hey, at least I saved four hundred or more dollars, haha. These cameras I already have are fine. The Nikon is the best quality, both picture and audio mic, but the little waterproof Fuji mounted on the front of the trike is good enough for well lit shots. I noticed the picture quality got grainy on the Munsel Creek Bike Path video when in the really shady areas, which I was not happy to see, but otherwise, it's a decent camera.
@@EZSteve Yes, I think these more invasive privacy issues are only going to continue. Most people don't even realize that they're being tracked in so many ways today, from their phones and cars to their browsers and email. All of them are gathering information and there's not a whole lot we can do about it if we want to use these tools. Of course, we can opt to not have a car, a cell phone and to use a browser like Duck, Duck, Go and email accounts that don't read through our emails and gather marketing information, but most people don't know what's going on or don't want to make the sacrifices.

😁 Whether Kraftwerk, Led Zeppelin, the Seekers, or Gentle Giant, there is always a melody and rhythm to ease the body and mind.
We mustn't forget the huge role humor plays in our lives. No matter how bad things get, there's always room for a joke and a good laugh. What is life worth without that? I think this is why I so often begin my comments with a patented remark.
I think you know I've had my share of problems recently. It's a fact that I'm not as strong as I used to be. In the back of my mind there's always the possibility something serious is going on. There have been too many of these incidents lately. All that said, my trike still beckons. I've accepted I can't ride as often as I'd like, but I still go when I can. I've often told you that pain is my constant companion - sort of my invisible sidecar - but I can deal with that. There's no substitute for the serenity and solitude a good ride gives me, so that's how it is.
I don't dwell on what the future holds for you or I. I merely enjoy the interplay we share of existing here, now, today. We're friends, and that's enough for me.
You know, we should each dedicate an entire episode to what our wives mean to us. I sort of did that awhile back on our anniversary, but that's only a partial tribute. We can't begin to understand the weight our caregivers carry on their shoulders. This song comes to mind; how simple and beautiful it is. Their lead singer, Judith Durham, just left us on August 5th. David, terrific video. Your attitude towards life is very inspiring! I too am an ex martial artist. From 25-35 yrs old. Some of best years of my life and some of my closest friends to this day. Th e only bad thing is gave me is knee arthritis from all my injuries 😂 I think I also heard on DRAT ride you used to be a dog trainer!? Is that true? I keep remembering your annual mileage goal. My trike will be 1 yr old ( and hence a year since I met you) end of next month. I am no where near 2000 miles. Right now about 525 or so. Just can’t seem to get out as much as I’d like this year due to Dot’s therapy. Ps. It was kind of fun when I got back from Spain to “binge watch” your videos. I was behind a few.
Hi Colleen. I actually was in martial arts at the same time I was working as a dog trainer. This started back in the late 70s. I used to go into the dojo every morning, eat lunch and then go to work. I worked primarily with problem dogs and I did the work in the client's home. I was the first "in-home dog trainer" in the Chicago area. My business was doing really well but as my eyes got worse I had to stop driving at night and that really made things difficult so I had to go out and get a "real" job.
How is Dottie doing?
That is so cool. Dot has developed separation anxiety during Covid and this injury made that worse. Know any good trainers to help?. Mentally she is all back to her normal goofy self. Physically she is using her leg but limping. We have X-ray on Tuesday up by you on Busch Pkwy to see what’s going on. We are at week 13 so she is healing a little slower than expected but you can’t rush bone growth! Hoping in next 4 weeks we can start doing stairs and longer walks. Fingers crossed.

Thanks! It's hard to recommend a trike for someone. It's really a matter of what feels best to you and what suits your needs. For those reasons it's always best to go to a dealer if possible.
Why are bike, Trike,helmets always a Dark colors? Maybe a Bright color that glows in Dark? Maybe a light on front and back would

All those products are available in very bright fluorescent colors as well. Unfortunately, my trike was only available in black which I wasn't happy about. I do have a flashing red light on the back of my trike and a flashing light on the front as well.
You said you listen to music. Have you tried Praise music. I love it.
