My mother in law just turned 79 and has stage 4 cancer. She moved in with us last March and has declined in the past month. When I ride I wish she could experience it, even for 10 minutes. Because she is a strong Christian, she still show joy. She will be in Heaven one day and it will dwarf the beauty of riding on earth.

Hi David, it is funny to hear you apologize for slowing down to our league. Welcome to the old farts club!! You have always encouraged me when 10-15 miles was a triumph for hubby and me (81 & 75). Also, we are looking to relocate (to one story, small lot) and you inspired me to find a place that has "triking from the driveway". We found a community only 10 miles from our house (2 story on 20 acres) which should serve us well while we can trike.
You have been such a source of validation, inspiration and new aspirations. Thank you.

David - my first time commenting on your channel. Watching your Slow Ride video tonight I couldn’t help but think about all you’re facing with your health, but how you are dealing with all these physical and health scares. Yes you are an inspiration for what it means to love what you do, keep active and be positive in your outlook.
I watch your videos and I’m amazed how you get out and keep riding and don’t let all your past health issues, surgeries, etc limit you. Stay strong with the chemo and the upcoming radiation therapy - I’m rooting for you!

One mantra I follow is “I can do a lot of things providing I do them slowly and deliberately.” Going slow can be good as you say. So happy to see you out again sharing your thoughts, being tranquil and aware, full of joy and gratitude, in the midst of personal crisis. Have you considered checking your blood O2 levels periodically while riding using an oximeter [thingy MDs use attached to your finger]? You might be able to ride faster if the numbers say so 😊

I ride slow because of (1) the trikes I own are not geared for speed and (2) I ride without e-assist. Having said that, slow is what I am used to and you see so much more along the way.
To give an example of slow actually being enjoyable, I took 2 of my grand kids out for Trick or Treat yesterday afternoon. As I am developing knee, hip and spinal problems (I now need a cane to walk), I rode one of my recumbents to be with them. What a pleasant experience! Had absolutely no problems on any hill. Hi David, you are an inspiration but still you scare me by not having a riding buddy with you. My Boy Scout years was always be at least in pairs just incase. I am younger than you but have gone through a lot of medical. I contracted the MAC Disease which attacks the lungs and it got into my blood system and caused AFIB, I'm Diabetic, Blood Pressure.
The Disease Doctors and all 4 other doctors said I would be going through worse than anyone on Chemotherapy Patiences because I had to take 10 super heavy duty Antibiotics for a year. I was told not to do anything by myself so my Triking has been confine to my Granddaughters Churck/School parking lot. I want to go out on a trail so bad.
Anyway just looked up Cycling groups but most are training groups for racing, but didn't give up and found maybe a trike group here in Peoria.
Anyway God Bless you and keep on riding and be safe. One other thing, please Hydrate it can kill if not.

Hi and thanks. I actually did (well, maybe my wife did) ask the doc about riding alone and he said as long as I monitored my blood oxygen level I should be fine. And I did still hydrate. For my 10 mile ride I drank 20 oz. which was plenty.
