    Glad to see you out riding again. I’m finally done with COVID and ready to ride, it’s been in the mid 90’s for several days. I think tomorrow will be cooler and I can get out for a ride. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on your ICE. I didn’t look too close at ICE because of price. Our Catrikes have been a great fit for us. I continue to think positive thoughts for you and your struggles. You show strength, compassion, and grace, you are a class act. Take care and keep riding!

      Thanks so much Dan! Yes, the ICE trikes are indeed pricey. But I figure I get so much use and pleasure out of it, plus I don't have a car, so I could justify the investment. And for me, when I sat in the ICE I knew that was the trike for me.

    Nice to hear your review David. Back when you posted on the Rohloff hub I had commented on how I was waiting for ICE to open their orders back up with the intention of getting two Sprint X Tours, one for me and one for my wife. You were kind enough to respond to me in several ways. I’ve watched your videos and others waiting for the right timing to move ahead with the purchase.
    Well the order was finally placed back in May and I now have 1 of the units on my porch with the other due in this Sunday. Basically the same as what you have although we did not get the e-assist. Buying two of them (retirement gifts to each other) just put the e-assist out of reach for now. The Rohloff hub though is awesome. So glad we didn’t back off on it.
    After a few practice runs we’ll be doing a portion of the Allegheny Passage Trail and are really looking forward to it. Already planning other trips and it is surprising how many rail trails and greenways are out there.
    Just wanted you to know your videos do inspire people to move ahead on trikes and I wish you the very best.
    Take care of yourself!!!!!!

      Hi Bill. That's great that you ordered two of them and that you'll soon have the second one. And yes, buying two with Rohloffs and e=assist is a large investment indeed. I'm willing to predict that as you ride more, you'll enjoy and appreciate the Rohloff even more. What's really a shocker is, once you've gotten used to it and you ride a trike with a standard derailleur. You'll wonder why you didn't always have a Rohloff!

With alot of determination and hard work, can walk again but with difficulty, cycling though I don't have a problem with, it actually helps my legs. I have problems though with hands going numb on the handlebars and discomfort from the saddle, hoping that the trike will be the answer I am looking for. Shweetie... If you are visiting and renting from Scott Barrows & crew at Lancaster Recumbent in Marietta, Pa. then you can jump on the Northwest River Trail which is very near the shop. That would be my first option.
      The second option is to drive to the Manor Township - Enola Low Grade Trail just outside of Washington Boro on 2459 River Road. This rail trail has a beautifully restored tressel bridge overlooking the Susquehanna River and Safe Harbor Dam. From the parking lot to the tressel bridge and back (round trip)is ~11 miles.Washington Boro, PA 17582. This is a great ride with the possibility of seeing ospreys and matured bald eagles over the Susquehanna River.
      The Northwest River Trail is a paved trail and the Enola Low Grade- Manor Township is crushed stone and dustier.
      I hope this helps. If you are using Lancaster Recumbent, they will certainly guide you. Have fun!

    Bruddah Big Wave Dave, congratulations on the 1 year anniversary and I’m so glad you enjoy your trike. It warms my heart to hear that. I had to do a lot of research online as we don’t have a trike shop on the island. I went back and forth between HP and Ice. My grandmother is from Cornwall and my grandfather was from Northern Germany. Both arrived in Hawaii separately. Who should I side with. We’ll, the HP had a greater degree in seat position and I was dealing with my spinal issues at the time and wanted to sit up more. I still prefer the more upright position 4000+ miles later. Anyway, I’m enjoying my marvelous HP Scorpion FS 26 as much as you enjoy your ICE Sprint. Both excellent trikes. Here’s to the next year and many more miles. 🤙🏽

    • @DavidRidesaTrike
      @DavidRidesaTrike  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aloooo-HA! I know several Scorpion owners who like you, love their trikes. I think we all develop a certain level of comfort with whatever trike we ride after we've had it for a while.
      When I was first trike shopping I felt more comfortable in a more laidback seat position. I did test ride the Scorpion and liked it and knew I could lean the seat back more. I also liked the fact that it was a bit higher off the ground and thus, easier to get out of. But for me the Sprint felt a bit more "nimble" and that's what sold it for me. But on my new one I have the Rohloff so both of your grandparents could be happy with my purchasing decision. 😎

I am awaiting double knee replacements but am strengthening up my leg muscles via triking. I find it hard to get in the lower trike seats. Does that have to do with the seat adjust or model specific ? I tried a friends who also didn’t know. My husband just bought a used Trident fold up just to get started but I’m still on the fence.

    Hi David, I was wondering if you ride from your home to the trails or load the trike into your SUV. I have a 12 mile course through my neighborhood. I do it in usually 1hr 7min. It’s all subdivisions and local mobile home parks. One day I’ll be loading my Trident Stowaway 26 into my Explorer (it fits great!) and find some real riding trails near my home. But for now, my neighborhood ride works out great every day except if I actually can’t because of a conflict. Looking forward to your next video.

      Hi Michael and thanks! I don't drive because of my impaired vision so I have to ride to the trail. Fortunately, it's exactly 1 mile from my garage door to the trail head so it's very easy. And since the trail is almost 35 miles long, it gives me plenty of riding availability.
      In the winter I have to ride through my neighborhood as I usually can't get to the trail because of snow or the trail itself has too much snow. But as you know, just getting out and riding, even if it's just through the neighborhood beats sitting in the house!

    Great review. I think trikes might be in my future, and appreciate first hand knowledge about the experience. Question: have you ever had flats on the three wheeler? As I get older, dealing with flat tires has become a big pain in the arse. Lance Armstrong asked George Hincapie, on his TdF show, what do you do when you get a flat? Hincapie answered, "call my wife to pick me up." Yeah, that. With arthritis in the wrists and so forth, fixing flats has become a chore. With three wheels ....

    • @DavidRidesaTrike
      @DavidRidesaTrike  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Curt. I have had flats although not for quite a while now (I'm knocking on wood!). Flats on the front wheels of a trike are much easier as the wheel doesn't have to be removed. You simply lift the trike over so it rests on its side with the bad tire facing up. You can then remove the tire and tube without taking the wheel off. The rear is a different store, especially with the Rohloff hub. If that happens to me I'll be following Hincapie's advice!

      Have you got serious puncture resistant tyres on board? On my 700c rigid bike, I like Schalbe Marathon Mondial Evo tyres for 100km rail trail rides here in Victoria, Oz. Good tyres will eliminate a high proportion of flats, but are not completely immune. I rode with a mate who had Rolhoff on the rear, who flatted and it was a bit of faffing about to swap the tube out on trail.

    Yep, ICE recumbent trikes are outstanding! You made an excellent choice when you originally opted the ICE brand. Your seat is probably light years more comfy than the old mesh seat I had on my 2007 ICE Qnt (the trike model upon which these current Sprint-X trikes are based). Do you find the seat gets too warm ever? That would be the only question I would have about the super nice seats, regardless of trike brand. I see that it has ventilator openings throughout, but wonder if your back heats up on warm days on the padded areas. I have never ridden on of these modern seats, but I am sure I would love them. HP makes one, but the one I have is simply a traditional mesh that is padded underneath with foam inserts (not as cool as my old ICE that was mesh only - I could remove the padding easily enough, but it rarely gets hot enough here to feel the need).
    I continue to be in awe of your sophisticated trail system there, and as always, am envious when I see how peaceful it is for your rides! How far from your home does the system start? Do you have to ride on paved automobile roads for any great length to access the trail system?
    Thanks for the review David.
    steve

    • @DavidRidesaTrike
      @DavidRidesaTrike  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Steve,
      This newer seat design is extremely comfortable although I always found my old seat, the traditional mesh with padding shoved in the bottom, to also be surprisingly comfortable. In comparison, the newer model is more comfortable. Regarding heat, even with the mesh seat my back would get quite wet when it got warm and/or humid enough. The same applies to the new seat but I can't honestly say if the mesh seat is any better at dissipating the heat. I would think the mesh seat would be better but I really don't know.
      The trail access point is exactly one mile from my door. I ride 1/5 mile down my street (low traffic) to a very busy street but there I ride on the sidewalk for about 1/2 a mile. I then ride maybe 200 yards on a dead-end street that is only there to access one apartment building so the traffic is very low. From there I take a paved path to the trail I am EXTREMELY fortunate to have this trail so close and such easy access!

      @@DavidRidesaTrike Indeed, you are very fortunate to have that trail system readily accessible to you. A mile on a trike is no big deal ... what I wouldn't give to have those paths here! • @DavidRidesaTrike

However, I do all my riding on the Lake County portion as it is in much better shape. There is a rural loop I have ridden in the past that I call the Sweet Creek Falls loop, 50 miles on mostly rural little used paved backroads, but it requires 15 miles on Highway 126 (a busy road between the coast and the Willamette Valley) to reach the rural part. Once on the small rural farm and ranch roads, it's pure heaven, then about 6 miles south of my home, I have to get on coastal highway 101 for the final portion. Fortunately the busy highways (about 20 miles worth) have super wide shoulders for cyclists, but it's still annoying to hear hundreds of cars and trucks screaming by constantly. Those 30 miles of rural riding are awesome, but there is a huge elevation gain partway through as the little paved road goes over some steep mountain terrain. The great news is there is no one up there - would be a neat place to pitch a tent for an overnight, something I have contemplated doing. You are SUPER lucky to be so close to that system!!!!

      @@EZSteve One of the reasons I never get tired of this trail is because I am so grateful to have it so close to me. There is another great trail not too far away. It requires me to ride about 8 miles along a busy road but when I go to this trail I ride the sidewalk rather than take a chance in the street. There is no shoulder and there is a portion for about a quarter mile where it's just one lane in each direction with a concrete island in the center so cars couldn't go around me. One of these days I'll make a video from that trail. I haven't yet because while this other trail is also quite long, about 45 miles, it's not as nice as the DPRT.

    A wonderful investment. Are you enjoying the full suspension? Riding=Therapy❤

      It is a very worthwhile investment. As it turns out, I only have front suspension. There was some miscommunication between my LBS and ICE. Nothing can be done about it now. ☹️
