It's interesting how the producer never says Catwoman he just says Selina Kyle, but when Zoe started speaking she said Penguin even though we know Oswald doesn't want to be called Penguin. It just makes me kind of excited for reveals in the movie. I really love how she was talking about her character background too and I'm really digging her whole Batman Year One vibe.
Batman doesn't need to look like a body builder to intimidate. I think of him as a tall solidly built guy. He's not a body guy. He uses your fear against you. He looks like a scrappy, agile fighter at this point. All hands, and anger. He'd likely bulk up as he accumulates injuries through his career. Like a fighter changing their style.
I've seen this interview already before, but in looking at it again in this format, what strikes me is how actually similar Matt Reeves and Rob are in their approach to film in general. They have a similar vision for how they want the films that they take part in to be viewed and understood by the audience. And it extends to Zoe, as well. The one thing I've loved about the quotes that were coming out prior to the panel is that everyone involved seem on the same page creatively. It was good to read about the actors being able to ask questions and gain feedback from Matt. It wasn't just a situation of, "Here, these are your lines, and this is how I want you to deliver them, whether or not they make sense to you." Both trailers have a level of attention to detail that you love to see in any kind of adaptation. It *really* has me hyped. 🦇
I honestly hope we could get at least four films of Matt Reeves's Batman. I truly want to see the Matt Reeves's Batman journey evolution and this Batman by far, has the best aesthetic so far.
So much like what they went for with Batman Begins. Then we went more comic-y with the Snyderverse. And now we’re back to grounding Batman. I’m thrilled though b/c what we never got in TDK series was a great Batman, with the ability to actually move and fight people. We’ll see how it goes. God it feels like I’ve been waiting forever for this movie.

I hope the develop it slowly over the course of the trilogy instead of just rushing a connection in the first film. Matt Reeves said all these characters are just starting out in their early years so it would make sense to develop their romance alongside their character arch over the course of the trilogy.
They should have left catwoman out till the second movie as she is too big a character and seems to be playing a central role here. It takes focus away from Batman just as they are setting him up and exploring his inner battle with his rage and identity. Maybe the movie will be a masterpiece but going on Burtons batman and Nolans, they did not introduce catwoman until the second or 3rd movies.

Such good thoughtful, intelligent understanding of the character of Batman from Reeves and Pattinson. I'm loving everything they say. Batman doesn't need to be huge, infact i like him being more ninja like...hes just really strong and intimidating looking. I also love how the shape of this cowl somehow really seems to accentuate the eyes. More proof that Batman should never have white lenses in the movies. Seeing his eyes is so much more effective and powerful when it comes to how the actor can portray emotion. I can't believe how many Batman fans endlessly ask for white lenses in these movies. This suit looks fantastic. I almost hope it doesnt get damaged and he gets to keep using it. Also the cape material is miles better than the cloth fabric of Bale's. The cape should look leathery and lean into the Bat quality. Love it.

To add to your Spectrum but definitive Batman point. I have always thought about it like this. Batman is about a man who lost his parents when he was a child. After that, whatever anyone decides to do with him, it's up to them and who enjoys that version. Some like the Superhero, some like the Vigilante, and others prefer the Dad with an army of kids. They are all Batman. Bale's Bruce didn't seem committed to Batman like others before. Kilmer (in deleted scenes) was contemplating his place in Gotham while still dealing with guilt. Clooney was the most at peace of the Batmen, surrounded by loved ones. Affleck was the Bat turned bitter then redemn by others. All Batman and it's just up to the fan to like.
I agree, Boba, that one of the most intriguing things about this movie is going to be the psychological exploration of the characters. Matt Reeves seems to be emphasizing rooting his story in reality. Nolan did the same thing, but I think Reeves will take that further, by exploring the main characters in more detail. I'm very excited to see this film! Upon seeing the conclusion of the film, I'm sure I will be begging for a sequel!
When some ppl said he's scrawny batman i look up at keaton, bale in TDK, kilmer and theyre arent huge either and in same similar figure. And I think Keaton even slimmer than Rob here and he's beloved by many. And all of them look fine and acceptable. Only Affleck and Arkham Batman who're different and really huge. Dont understand the complain tbh.
Rob looks built like a legit mma fighter. Very long, cut up kind of build. I’ve said it before but he really looks built like Anderson Silva who is regarded by many to be the mma goat. I think there was a big emphasis on functional fitness for this role which you can see from the pics of him working out with sandbags online and I truly believe if Batman were real he would have similar workout regimen. Put lots of training with one of the greatest Brazilian jiu jitsu instructors alive in Rigan Machado on top of that and you have yourself a very legitimate Batman! I love it!
This China DC fandome interviews is exactly what was missing from the main DC Fandome was having someone who hasn’t seen the movie to be asking genuine questions that they don’t know the answers to and then the cast / crew can have some excitement in telling them about it and it’s REAL and has life and love behind those answers. Rob strikes me as closer to jason O'maras than other versions. Although he also feels very btas. I'm super excited to see his take. I have a feeling he'll top affleck as my favorite batman
From this interview ,you could of saw the way Pattinson talk that he really has evolved as an actor .I think that alot of people would be in for a surprise in this film.
The only video I watched that mentioned the rumors of him not training another and having bad blood with the director was the quatering but he was very clear they were rumors and possibly not true. That's the best way to go about it imo.
True when you see some of the comics he has the build of a body builder and it don’t look right. Obviously he has to be strong but in a fight speed always wins. Look at Bruce Lee. He was very strong and not just a martial artist . you can’t hurt what you can’t hit. Size helps to intimidate but you need the skill to back it up. And the will to win helps nothing beats determination.
Ok here’s my thing Batman / Bruce Wayne is 6’2 250 pounds… that’s a big fucking dude…. But I get it that’s a tough one to find… (Ben was good for this aspect and they also almost had that dude from the Tarzan movie play him- that could’ve been cool) however you had Bale who was jacked in the first movie and still jacked in the two follow ups but a little slimmer. My issue is that Rob doesn’t look like he worked out at all or tried to put any weight on and rumors were it was for a “woke” reason. Something like “I’m not gonna be a part of this toxic culture of masculinity and morph my body into something intangible for the normal man” like - what? Wtf? Lol you’re playing a comic book hero who is at peak human physical condition… above peak actually Bruce trained his body to be beyond physically fit so no one could be on his level. That said Bruce Lee is a good example however, too skinny, but Bruce Lee was fit as hell! And again Rob doesn’t look like he worked out all. He looks ok in the suit and the suit adds some bull and I’m still super excited for the movie I just wish and hope maybe he will get bigger or more fit for the next movies. For example go watch the trailer and look at the scene where he is shirtless and throws or pushes over a dresser or something. He looks so frail and he struggles to push over a bookshelf or dresser!!! When Batman should easily be able to lift a dude by his neck off the ground with each hand.

And those who don't have something they always act like they don't need that thing. Maybe Rob does the same. He says that he doesn't want to change his body because he actually CAN'T !!! I have the same thing going on so I can relate to this.

Your confidence about movie is contagious 😆. Is it something strange with policemen equipment on the trailer beginning, or it's just my mind? It's looks different, when they are approaching the cafe and when they're inside. Look at their helmet/cap. Is that another team and they just stand outside?
I never noticed until you paused at 32:02 that Oswald is wearing a *chequered* tuxedo (or maybe it's coat over his tuxedo). Anyway, I like this detail. I see him being a very colourful, flashy character. Someone who's nouveau riche, from his work as a mobster, and who wants to be noticed and flash his wealth around, Scarface-style.
Another small detail that no one has really said anything about but it’s pretty cool that Batman/Bruce Wayne’s eye color has always been blue in the comics so the fact that Pattinson has blue eyes and dark hair and the jaw line and even the height and built (for his era) he might possibly thee most comic book accurate Batman we have seen…Ever.
Personally I think people seem to think of Batman looking like this hulking size of muscle is a misconception and it ignores that comic book fans have seen batman drawn differently depending on the artist. People seem to think Batman looks like Jim Lee design ( not to crap on Jim Lee I love Jim Lee's art) Or the Arkham Games ( first two he looks like a beast cause of the game engine Arkham Knight they slimmed him down) Batman has had a variety of body sizes depending on the artist illustrating him and I find it bizzare and closed minded when fans think this person should be Batman cause he has to physically look huge. Batman Year One Bruce was kinda average sized guy, Greg Capullo Batman isn't ridiculously muscular. This perception of towering Batman I think comes from Jim Lee artwork being available online. Keaton wasn't huge nor was Bale to be honest. The only reason why Affleck was huge cause of padding and he was up against Superman and Synder was doing TDKR inspiration and even he said he was inspired by Jim Lee's look.
Batman has never been an average sized guy, not even in year one. He’s clearly well built. Even when they do occasional flashbacks to Batman’s training pre-year one, you can clearly see his size like recently with the Henri Ducard reemergence. He shouldnt be a hulking roid monster, but his physique should never be in question when it comes to his look like it has been with Pattinson. Still excited for this Batman, but let’s not lie

The last Batman was a big brute, and although Affleck is probably closer to my visual image of Bruce Wayne, I'm still super-excited for this alternative take, featuring a lean, svelte, agile Batman.

So something i just now realized while u where showing the clip slowed down, the batsignal is a nod to the oval bat symbol he has in some of his comics only because its the first time we see the bat signal *yellow* instead of white or light blue like it always is...maybe its a nod to his future costume in the later movies?

I really like what Robert said as well. It’s what I try to argue with people occasionally online that Batman has been drawn in a various ways in different interpretation there’s else worlds like all movies are since they’re not main universe where there’s even more interpretations of looks and different eras of Batman with their own iconic looks. Where yeah everyone has they’re own ideal look of Batman but there’s so many different depictions of Batman that it’s hard to say that no this doesn’t look like Batman because of this because there’s other interpretations where he’s giant and other where he’s leaner sometimes more between and it can just depend on the artist or what the story is going for and this is a movie in its own movie universe with its own artistic vision where the essence is most important to capture in my opinion. I like lean a lot I also like bulkier, as long as they capture something that feels Batman or makes sense for Batman for any reasons that seem logical. Where saying doesn’t look like Batman or disrespectful to the character I think people like that can be a little too harsh because of the different interpretations where I feel like those who disagree it’s more accurate to say it just doesn’t fit how you see the character which is fair enough. I like the look for The Batman and the idea behind it myself a lot and am super excited for it.
I wish Rocksteady Studios could add one last content to Batman Arkham Knight with the next-gen upgrade and that is Robert Pattinson's Batsuit and Batmobile

I Never believed the rumor's. Pattinson basically begged to get the part. Thought he lost it. Then all the sudden he goes rogue and fights with the director about working out??? The movie will be awesome. The dudes a Freakin model, he was in great shape!! No he's not Affleck but he's definitely bigger than Keaton. And oh yeah I remember the Crap Keaton took and now in most fans eyes, he's Batman.
Anyone, any idea what Selina's backstory is here? Zoe Kravitz is such perfect casting, I'm now worried the part doesn't meet my expectations (in contrast to TDK, where the character was brilliantly written on the page, but I felt Anne Hathaway, as good a job as she did, was miscast in the role). She needs to be a tough character who's come from the school of hard knocks, and thus a contrast to Bruce Wayne and his gilded existence.

Robert Patt is an amazing Bruce Wayne Batman… I loved the Twilight Saga. Hey R Batz looks more fierce and a bit untamed compared to Bale and Affleck. I absolutely love this unfiltered interpretation. It’s like Bale’s version is more controlled whereas Affleck makes full circle back to the IDGAF ruthless aggression take as an old-no patience-having portrayal of Pattinson
So baisically this is Pheonix Jones: The Movie hahaha no but really I couldn't be more excited. Even if they're trying to deviate from the norm, it seems like they really captured the essence of the comics. That's what I appreciate most about my favorite comic book films. They can change a lot, but if you capture that essence and some key characteristics, it will satisfy everyone.

This is super exciting. Yeah and I didn't believe the rumors either. And ahem Rob's back looks pretty fucking strong lol 👀 People forget Batman also needs to be incredibly fast. Sure there are some iterations where being a "bruiser" is cool. But not in his beginning years like Rob says. And I feel like in order to be as fast as he needs to be in the beginning and as stealthy, he can't be so large.
Absolutely. Examine the physiques of enlisted special forces operators. You will have big guys, well over 200lbs, but a lot are lean and around the 180lbs mark. They're fast, strong, agile, and have endurance for days. They're well rounded athletes. The official description of Batman's height and weight, is actually very accurate, considering the kind of athlete he would need to be. 6'2" at 210lbs is a big guy, but far from bulky. Think of Randy Couture, former UFC Champion, at light heavyweight. That is how I envisioned Bruce Wayne looking in his prime, with the athleticism of a Cross Fit athlete.

It's interesting how the producer never says Catwoman he just says Selina Kyle, but when Zoe started speaking she said Penguin even though we know Oswald doesn't want to be called Penguin. It just makes me kind of excited for reveals in the movie. I really love how she was talking about her character background too and I'm really digging her whole Batman Year One vibe.
Oswald is called Penguin since he was a kid.

Batman doesn't need to look like a body builder to intimidate. I think of him as a tall solidly built guy. He's not a body guy. He uses your fear against you. He looks like a scrappy, agile fighter at this point. All hands, and anger. He'd likely bulk up as he accumulates injuries through his career. Like a fighter changing their style.

I've seen this interview already before, but in looking at it again in this format, what strikes me is how actually similar Matt Reeves and Rob are in their approach to film in general. They have a similar vision for how they want the films that they take part in to be viewed and understood by the audience. And it extends to Zoe, as well. The one thing I've loved about the quotes that were coming out prior to the panel is that everyone involved seem on the same page creatively.
It was good to read about the actors being able to ask questions and gain feedback from Matt. It wasn't just a situation of, "Here, these are your lines, and this is how I want you to deliver them, whether or not they make sense to you." Both trailers have a level of attention to detail that you love to see in any kind of adaptation. It *really* has me hyped. 🦇
I honestly hope we could get at least four films of Matt Reeves's Batman. I truly want to see the Matt Reeves's Batman journey evolution and this Batman by far, has the best aesthetic so far.
So much like what they went for with Batman Begins. Then we went more comic-y with the Snyderverse. And now we’re back to grounding Batman. I’m thrilled though b/c what we never got in TDK series was a great Batman, with the ability to actually move and fight people. We’ll see how it goes. God it feels like I’ve been waiting forever for this movie.
I feel you man. I loved TDK but there was so much I wish was done that bit better, and this movie seems to have addressed all that and then some.

They should have left catwoman out till the second movie as she is too big a character and seems to be playing a central role here. It takes focus away from Batman just as they are setting him up and exploring his inner battle with his rage and identity. Maybe the movie will be a masterpiece but going on Burtons batman and Nolans, they did not introduce catwoman until the second or 3rd movies.

Such good thoughtful, intelligent understanding of the character of Batman from Reeves and Pattinson. I'm loving everything they say. Batman doesn't need to be huge, infact i like him being more ninja like...hes just really strong and intimidating looking. I also love how the shape of this cowl somehow really seems to accentuate the eyes. More proof that Batman should never have white lenses in the movies. Seeing his eyes is so much more effective and powerful when it comes to how the actor can portray emotion. I can't believe how many Batman fans endlessly ask for white lenses in these movies. This suit looks fantastic. I almost hope it doesnt get damaged and he gets to keep using it. Also the cape material is miles better than the cloth fabric of Bale's. The cape should look leathery and lean into the Bat quality. Love it.

To add to your Spectrum but definitive Batman point. I have always thought about it like this. Batman is about a man who lost his parents when he was a child. After that, whatever anyone decides to do with him, it's up to them and who enjoys that version. Some like the Superhero, some like the Vigilante, and others prefer the Dad with an army of kids. They are all Batman.
Bale's Bruce didn't seem committed to Batman like others before.
Kilmer (in deleted scenes) was contemplating his place in Gotham while still dealing with guilt.
Clooney was the most at peace of the Batmen, surrounded by loved ones.
Affleck was the Bat turned bitter then redemn by others.
All Batman and it's just up to the fan to like.
I agree, Boba, that one of the most intriguing things about this movie is going to be the psychological exploration of the characters. Matt Reeves seems to be emphasizing rooting his story in reality. Nolan did the same thing, but I think Reeves will take that further, by exploring the main characters in more detail.
I'm very excited to see this film! Upon seeing the conclusion of the film, I'm sure I will be begging for a sequel!
When some ppl said he's scrawny batman i look up at keaton, bale in TDK, kilmer and theyre arent huge either and in same similar figure. And I think Keaton even slimmer than Rob here and he's beloved by many. And all of them look fine and acceptable. Only Affleck and Arkham Batman who're different and really huge.

Rob looks built like a legit mma fighter. Very long, cut up kind of build. I’ve said it before but he really looks built like Anderson Silva who is regarded by many to be the mma goat. I think there was a big emphasis on functional fitness for this role which you can see from the pics of him working out with sandbags online and I truly believe if Batman were real he would have similar workout regimen. Put lots of training with one of the greatest Brazilian jiu jitsu instructors alive in Rigan Machado on top of that and you have yourself a very legitimate Batman! I love it!
I have a very strong suspicion that this will be THE DEFINITIVE portrayal of Batman on film. #soexcited

From this interview ,you could of saw the way Pattinson talk that he really has evolved as an actor .I think that alot of people would be in for a surprise in this film.
The only video I watched that mentioned the rumors of him not training another and having bad blood with the director was the quatering but he was very clear they were rumors and possibly not true. That's the best way to go about it imo.

True when you see some of the comics he has the build of a body builder and it don’t look right. Obviously he has to be strong but in a fight speed always wins. Look at Bruce Lee. He was very strong and not just a martial artist . you can’t hurt what you can’t hit. Size helps to intimidate but you need the skill to back it up. And the will to win helps nothing beats determination.
Ok here’s my thing Batman / Bruce Wayne is 6’2 250 pounds… that’s a big fucking dude…. But I get it that’s a tough one to find… (Ben was good for this aspect and they also almost had that dude from the Tarzan movie play him- that could’ve been cool) however you had Bale who was jacked in the first movie and still jacked in the two follow ups but a little slimmer. My issue is that Rob doesn’t look like he worked out at all or tried to put any weight on and rumors were it was for a “woke” reason. Something like “I’m not gonna be a part of this toxic culture of masculinity and morph my body into something intangible for the normal man” like - what? Wtf? Lol you’re playing a comic book hero who is at peak human physical condition… above peak actually Bruce trained his body to be beyond physically fit so no one could be on his level. That said Bruce Lee is a good example however, too skinny, but Bruce Lee was fit as hell! And again Rob doesn’t look like he worked out all. He looks ok in the suit and the suit adds some bull and I’m still super excited for the movie I just wish and hope maybe he will get bigger or more fit for the next movies. For example go watch the trailer and look at the scene where he is shirtless and throws or pushes over a dresser or something. He looks so frail and he struggles to push over a bookshelf or dresser!!! When Batman should easily be able to lift a dude by his neck off the ground with each hand.

I never noticed until you paused at 32:02 that Oswald is wearing a *chequered* tuxedo (or maybe it's coat over his tuxedo). Anyway, I like this detail. I see him being a very colourful, flashy character. Someone who's nouveau riche, from his work as a mobster, and who wants to be noticed and flash his wealth around, Scarface-style.
Another small detail that no one has really said anything about but it’s pretty cool that Batman/Bruce Wayne’s eye color has always been blue in the comics so the fact that Pattinson has blue eyes and dark hair and the jaw line and even the height and built (for his era) he might possibly thee most comic book accurate Batman we have seen…Ever.
Personally I think people seem to think of Batman looking like this hulking size of muscle is a misconception and it ignores that comic book fans have seen batman drawn differently depending on the artist. People seem to think Batman looks like Jim Lee design ( not to crap on Jim Lee I love Jim Lee's art) Or the Arkham Games ( first two he looks like a beast cause of the game engine Arkham Knight they slimmed him down) Batman has had a variety of body sizes depending on the artist illustrating him and I find it bizzare and closed minded when fans think this person should be Batman cause he has to physically look huge. Batman Year One Bruce was kinda average sized guy, Greg Capullo Batman isn't ridiculously muscular. This perception of towering Batman I think comes from Jim Lee artwork being available online. Keaton wasn't huge nor was Bale to be honest. The only reason why Affleck was huge cause of padding and he was up against Superman and Synder was doing TDKR inspiration and even he said he was inspired by Jim Lee's look.

Batman has never been an average sized guy, not even in year one. He’s clearly well built. Even when they do occasional flashbacks to Batman’s training pre-year one, you can clearly see his size like recently with the Henri Ducard reemergence. He shouldnt be a hulking roid monster, but his physique should never be in question when it comes to his look like it has been with Pattinson. Still excited for this Batman, but let’s not lie

The batman from my childhood was always lean, so Rob's physique is fine.
The last Batman was a big brute, and although Affleck is probably closer to my visual image of Bruce Wayne, I'm still super-excited for this alternative take, featuring a lean, svelte, agile Batman.

So something i just now realized while u where showing the clip slowed down, the batsignal is a nod to the oval bat symbol he has in some of his comics only because its the first time we see the bat signal *yellow* instead of white or light blue like it always is...maybe its a nod to his future costume in the later movies?

I really like what Robert said as well. It’s what I try to argue with people occasionally online that Batman has been drawn in a various ways in different interpretation there’s else worlds like all movies are since they’re not main universe where there’s even more interpretations of looks and different eras of Batman with their own iconic looks. Where yeah everyone has they’re own ideal look of Batman but there’s so many different depictions of Batman that it’s hard to say that no this doesn’t look like Batman because of this because there’s other interpretations where he’s giant and other where he’s leaner sometimes more between and it can just depend on the artist or what the story is going for and this is a movie in its own movie universe with its own artistic vision where the essence is most important to capture in my opinion. I like lean a lot I also like bulkier, as long as they capture something that feels Batman or makes sense for Batman for any reasons that seem logical. Where saying doesn’t look like Batman or disrespectful to the character I think people like that can be a little too harsh because of the different interpretations where I feel like those who disagree it’s more accurate to say it just doesn’t fit how you see the character which is fair enough. I like the look for The Batman and the idea behind it myself a lot and am super excited for it.

Anyone, any idea what Selina's backstory is here? Zoe Kravitz is such perfect casting, I'm now worried the part doesn't meet my expectations (in contrast to TDK, where the character was brilliantly written on the page, but I felt Anne Hathaway, as good a job as she did, was miscast in the role). She needs to be a tough character who's come from the school of hard knocks, and thus a contrast to Bruce Wayne and his gilded existence.

I absolutely love this unfiltered interpretation. It’s like Bale’s version is more controlled whereas Affleck makes full circle back to the IDGAF ruthless aggression take as an old-no patience-having portrayal of Pattinson

This movie is going to be amazing.
So baisically this is Pheonix Jones: The Movie hahaha no but really I couldn't be more excited. Even if they're trying to deviate from the norm, it seems like they really captured the essence of the comics. That's what I appreciate most about my favorite comic book films. They can change a lot, but if you capture that essence and some key characteristics, it will satisfy everyone.

People forget Batman also needs to be incredibly fast. Sure there are some iterations where being a "bruiser" is cool. But not in his beginning years like Rob says. And I feel like in order to be as fast as he needs to be in the beginning and as stealthy, he can't be so large.
Absolutely. Examine the physiques of enlisted special forces operators. You will have big guys, well over 200lbs, but a lot are lean and around the 180lbs mark. They're fast, strong, agile, and have endurance for days. They're well rounded athletes.
The official description of Batman's height and weight, is actually very accurate, considering the kind of athlete he would need to be. 6'2" at 210lbs is a big guy, but far from bulky. Think of Randy Couture, former UFC Champion, at light heavyweight. That is how I envisioned Bruce Wayne looking in his prime, with the athleticism of a Cross Fit athlete.
