  • One new species on camera this month and some interesting animal behavior. The second half of January brought some very low temperatures. One clip that wasn’t included registered a -15F. With the wind it must have been hard on the critters.

Omg...the way the raccoon hangs from the backside of a tree halfway up ,in the dark ,the eyeshadow glow like that in some Bigfoot videos...the ‘peeker’ ....lol

I think there was a dominant raccoon in the area but it turned out cute. Thanks for visiting.

Really nice video. I appreciated the written commentary.
For January, some of those animals were nice & fat.

Hi, nice video, what trail cam are you using? I just had to return a recon strike force, it kept messing up, freezing up or just not working. It was on sale for $100 originally $150. I want a good one but can't afford much more than that, any advice? Thank you

It's hard to say. All the brands seem to have their problems. I returned a Browning after 4 months. They sent me a replacement without a problem. For good nature videos get full HD (1920X1080). For scouting game, A/V quality isn't much of an issue for less cost.

At 4:33 a creature appears in the far background, at 4:43 this creature crawls into the hole in the trunk of the large tree, and then peers out.

An excellent video...I have a cam in a secret place and am waiting for a month of records....What this actually makes me want to do is get out there and camp/live with these folks for a weekend.

All the animals see is a faint glow but to the camera, the field of view is illuminated. Without it there would be no video. After seeing it many times they begin to ignore it altogether.

A lot of the time people do not differentiate between the terms Infrared or Thermal Imaging. Most infrared systems are not sensitive enough to use the natural light of the night and therefore use their own light source. They use infrared light which is not visible to the human eye or as they explain most mammals. The source itself probably just looks like an eye to the deer, that is why they are curious/spooked. Disabling or taping off the light source would just mean you would have a very very very dark image or even no image at all.
A thermal imaging device on the other hand would record the heat radiation which also happens to be in the infrared spectrum but is so faint other technology is used. Thermal imaging is very blurry and it would look more like a todlers drawing if you would use it to record wildlife in the night.

The "headlights" in the darkness that never come into the light are real teasers.
Wouldn't it be cool to be able to just sit with your back against a tree and watch all this happen.

I have heard that if anything happens in the forest , the bear smells it , the deer hear it & the birds see it .

Interesting. The birds tend to be the look-outs. I've watched them give their warning call and all species of birds know what it means and react. They also react to visual cues. I was once surrounded by 32 wild turkeys while putting bird seed out. I glanced straight up at the sky and the entire flock immediately alerted and looked up in unison with me. Funny.

I hang my cameras higher than most people as I find animals generally don’t look up a lot. At least deer do not. Plus it cuts down on theft as humans don’t look up as often either. It’s an unnatural angle and not nearly as up close and personal as these images. I love these!

    • @WatershedWildlife
      @WatershedWildlife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks! I try to stay with private property when I can and the low angle seems to do a lot for the audio pick up. Since I'm not scouting, I just do it for the experience.

That racoon on the tree at 4:46 looks like there is a scary tall creature with glowing eyes standing there slowly peeping out from behing the tree. It looks like the Beast from Over the Garden Wall. The coolest raccon I've ever seen.

Sat in the woods in a folding chair with legs stretched in front and heard crashing through the trees ahead and get coming straight at me. Closer and closer and thought it was going to run up me like an angled log. When it got to me it went under the chair and stopped. I peered over my right shoulder and it was a woodchuck. It saw me and continued it's course. Never did see what was chasing it.
