"Rock and Roll Heaven" is a song written by Alan O'Day and Johnny Stevenson, popularized by The Righteous Brothers. It is a paean to several deceased singers such as Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Otis Redding, and has been rewritten a number of times to include other singers. The song was first recorded by the band Climax in 1973 (co-writer Stevenson was the keyboard player for Climax, and the song was specifically written for the band's lead singer, Sonny Geraci), but it failed to chart. It was then covered by The Righteous Brothers in 1974 and reached number three on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
The Righteous Brothers recorded "Rock and Roll Heaven" a few weeks after they decided to reform the duo in 1974. They signed with Haven Records run by Dennis Lambert and Brian Potter and were given the song to record. Lambert and Potter rewrote a verse, updating the song to include Jim Croce and Bobby Darin who had died within three months of each other in late 1973. According to Bill Medley, they were dubious about the song because they didn't think the song had the "old Righteous Brothers feel". Nevertheless, it became a hit for them and quickly reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100. In Canada it spent three weeks at number four.

"Rock n Roll Heaven" takes me way back to '74 when I was 12 years old. I was drawn to the lyrics the first time I ever heard it. A true classic. They just dont put put music like they used back in the day! This one is a true timeless classic. ❤

I just read on Wikipedia about Bobby Darin and how young he was when he died and it was mentioned in there that the Righteous Brothers would put him in the song that's here. I'm 69 years old it's so hard to believe that so many people are gone including my wife a year and a half ago life is so depressing for me and so many others that lost loved ones. But Bobby Darin was something else he had a pretty bad life since birth go read about him. And he died at 37. God bless all of us❤

Born 1963...the year Kennedy was shot. (🇨🇦: btw). This song came out, and all us young kids loved the melody and the beat. Grew thru all that and Janis' songs, Kent State, Manson Murders, Nixon, fall of the Berlin Wall, to space station, etc....
