Doc, at 11:50, you are spot on. Wish this video was made a few months ago! We had a 400 sqft area of dallisgrass and ended up spraying Round Up (same as you show) to kill it all. Well, I ended up with a 400 sqft brown spot that I dug up (dethatched and tilled). Now, considering the area was only dallisgrass, it probably would not have made much of a difference if I had used the sponge method, but to listeners, DON'T liberally spray RoundUp everywhere in your Bermuda lawn or you WILL kill your Bermuda. Now, the good news is Bermuda can grow and spread via rhizomes and stolons, so after about 3 months I've got good Bermuda growth occurring in the 400 sqft dirt spot and it should fill in over time. I've fed the spot treatments of humichar, PGF complete on normal fertilizing runs and have laid down fertilizers higher in nitrogen, just in that spot, to encourage growth. Of course, I must water it 1 to 2 times per day to keep the soil moist or it will dry out. But, I got rid of that dallisgrass, and it is true...it is much tougher than crabgrass and nutsedge.

I use PGF Complete and Milorganite every 4 weeks. Never burned the lawn. Can back up that claim. In Georgia too.

I had something like that pipe for my A/C u it as well. It ended up killing back a section of my Bermuda with too much water from the constant dripping. Ground was constantly soggy. Then the nutsedge moved into the bare areas. Ended up having to route it to a buried downspout drain. Other than that, great video! Have some patches of dallisgrass that will be in for a big surprise...

Doc, thank you for all the time and effort you put into the videos. I've learned a ton over ~1 year I've been subbed to your channel and have been able to fire my lawn company. Dallisgrass has always been the one weed the lawn company could never control. I did 3 applications of MSMA roughly 2 weeks apart and was able to eliminate nearly 95% of the Dallisgrass. Just curious, why do you not recommend MSMA? Everything else I've tried in the past has not been able to control it. It really is an AMAZING product! Thanks!

Doc, those seed heads that you showed wasn't dallis grass. It looked more like carpetgrass, but it was not dallis. I had a yard full of dallis grass one year and killed it quickly with a common garden hoe. Sprinkle a little fresh compost in the damaged area, and it will fill in with new grass within a couple of weeks. No chemicals - and it was highly effective and in short order.

1/2 of my front yard of my newly purchased home was littered with Dallisgrass. Once i learned it was an annual i got rid of it all by the next spring by mowing b4 the seed stalks had a chance to grow & drop seeds. I mowed about every 4 days. In between mowings, I'd pull any seed stalks that might arise. There weren't many. It was work but it paid off. Dallisgrass will always be a battle for me bcz the lawn next door has an infestation & the lawn isn't mowed often enough to control the seeds.

Over here in north Texas the AC drain is plumbed into a bathroom sink drain. If that drain line is plugged up then it will fill the drain pan under the blower in the attic and a backup drain line will take the condensate outside. That is usually how you know the main drain line is plugged. If both the main and the backup drain lines are plugged or non functional then you have a leak in your attic.

Even though it's not on the label I used quinclorac 75 on heavy patches of dallisgrass and it knocked one patch back so the Bermuda is filling in. The other patch it totally killed the dallis. I am going to hit it again and apply prodiamine spray in split app there are a few patches throughout the 2 acre lawn I will spot spray. Any thoughts on the quinclorac?

Hey Doc in my state if you see that pipe leaking that means the main drain is clogged. There is two pipes one goes to your regular home drain and the other goes outside or sometimes inside your home where you can see water coming out, if the 2nd pipe gets clogged you can get water damage. This is when the central air is in your attic.

I had a major Dallisgrass infestation in my front yard. I fought it all summer and finally gave up and spot sprayed Glyf to kill it off. There isn't much Bermuda left, maybe half the yard. The Dallisgrass is finally dead but I've also been working on a new patch in the back. I had to bring in fill to raise an area to improve drainage for a new workshop and to keep this raised area from being under water. I was planning on seeding the bare spots in front where the Dallisgrass was and seeding the big back patch but it's been so hot (high 90's every day in Dallas area) that I've been limited as to how much I can do without turning myself into fertilizer. I have 10 pounds of Yukon seed. Is it too late to put that down during the first week of August? If you think I should wait till spring, will Yukon seed still be viable if stored over the winter? I'm hoping to still plant now so I can use PE in the spring to get the crabgrass under control.

    • @HowTowithDoc

You are aware that that is the emergency pan overflow drain. The real drain is hooked into the plumbing, sink or tub p trap. That line is clearly clogged and needs to be cleaned out. You have to go to the attic to do that.

There are a few agricultural uses for MSMA during the cotton growing season. It is important to refer to the label from the manufacturer for the most up-to-date application sites for MSMA herbicide.
