"Barney may have been forgotten, but I'll never forget him." Really goes to show that you can be remembered just by being nice to people. Hope Barney is doing alright wherever he is today.
@@lamegameguy naaahh man I heard he’s hyped up on coke, dressed as an anthropomorphic bat, and running on top of run-down office buildings in NYC while his (rented for 24 hours) butler drives next to him on a golf cart.
@@OverlordDogz nah man he manifested into incomprehensible horrors and devoured the state of REDACTED and causes billions of dollars in damages and thousands of lives. He was also on the news for doing a cool tech deck trick
TRUST ME, that Downward spiral is still there, you are just far away form it, and when it gets closed, it will be BIGGER AND HUNGRIER Seriously Emp, all the respect for this video. This is how I felt back in the day, at the start and now, it feels so nice to share something similar to someone, yet so different for how things happen. I remember when I found your channel and, even if you don't make youtube poops anymore, the escenes is still there. Your "Bitching" Era, when you made the "enough is enough" dude, what a gold but I can see what happened! BTW, Rusty as a Psychologist is the most surreal thing I've ever seen
I do believe in you emp. My dad loved dale and he's got dementia now and we watched your video about Dale Earnhardt and he remembered everything for a while and I thank you for that.
Wow. That was a really good watch. Hard to believe I listened to all nearly 100 minutes in one sitting, but it was really captivating hearing you retell your journey from the beginning to now. It's really made me rethink how I perceive making TH-cam content. Looking back on it now, I remember the wave of hate flooding your channel during the Sempsins era and I'm sorry that I contributed to that a bit. It's genuinely hard to give you a reason why I did, especially given that you were the one that brought my channel into the spotlight all the way back in 2014. I probably wouldn't still be here if it wasn't for your generosity in doing that and I'll be forever grateful. If I could speak on behalf of the YTP community, which I can't, I would apologise for putting you through all that. But, it was great to see you fight back against that and against what TH-cam itself went on to become. I mean, I still enjoy it here, but it's hard to argue that it hasn't changed from what it was. And the fact that after all that you went through, you still somehow came out on top is... admirable, Ackbar. Congrats on 1 million and thank you for all you've done :)
im so happy i found your channel through emp during the spingebill collab, and im so happy to see this comment here. You guys make such entertaining content and my group of friends still go back and rewatch some of the old ytp's and ytp collabs just to reminisce on the good old times when we'd hang out watching youtube laughing together. I still hold out hope yall make ytps for yourself and your own laughs, because those are the funniest and most memorable. i love you guys and your videos.
I came around 2010, and only knew spanish at the time, so even with me remembering the 2012 rewind and being a YTP buff on two languages I didn't know about him at all. I like to think that he's probably proud of what emp became and disappointed with how shit the rest of the community turned out to be
Congrats on the million subs. This video is indeed a career retrospective, but I want to remind you that, like, dude, you're only 24. As far as I'm concerned, you're still in the first third of your videomaking career. If your quality of work continues to evolve beyond what you were able to demonstrate with Never Ever and your current output, then I'm super excited to see what your videos are gonna look like when you reach Anthony Fantano's age. If you could sell me on the intricacies of NASCAR, then you could probably sell me on anything. Don't work yourself into an early grave, take breaks, and always remember that your passion for the topics you cover will always trump what the audience wants you to do instead.
I just wanted to let you know, I would have never started my channel if it wasn’t for your Dale Earnhardt video. I remember watching that, being blown away and wanting to throw my hat in the TH-cam ring. Every video you put out is better than the last. Your writing is some of the best on TH-cam. And I know so many creators are inspired by what you’re doing and only wish they could be half as good as what you’re putting out. You’ve managed to adapt and grow through good times and the bad. And with 12 years of experience, you’re putting out some of the best videos on the platform that will be looked back on as some of the greats. Congrats on the million man, it’s well deserved
YTP had inspired my sense of humor, along with stuff like SuperMarioLogan. Being a mid-2000s kid I kinda missed the big wave of cool stuff, but still saw a lot of nice things. Beyblade in particular I hold close
Thanks for sharing your story. I found your channel fairly recently all things considered when The History of the World's Highest Jump popped into my recommended. After checking out more of your channel the Dale Earnhardt video nearly left me in tears and i wrote a.. perhaps slightly cringy email to you about how much your work inspired me. I come from a pretty similar origin to you, but replace TH-cam poops with speedrunning and replace TH-cam with Twitch. I've seen it all grow from the ground up, how things have changed over time. It's certainly been a ride. One thing i can't say we have in common however is how turbulent your channel has been in terms of direction, style, tone and types of content you put out. It's very inspiring to see you push yourself through several droughts, creative confusions, demonetization and more. Your channel is the epitomy of what i call a TH-camr. Starting off from humble beginnings just doing what you love, to where you are now. Congrats on the mil.
Hey Rixer. Longtime fan, particularly love your video on Toofty, been seeing you pop up here and there on other channels I watch. Surprised it took you this long to find EmpLemon.
You're both amazing content creators. I really don't like Emp's YTP content personally (I just don't like YTP), but the dude makes some incredible content. As someone who doesn't like NASCAR, his NASCAR content got me craving more NASCAR content.
Real shit, crazy how this guy and other ytp channels along w gamers formed my absurd sense of humor. Internet literacy it’s something crazy and I love being terminally online
It's shocking how relatable this all is. From how after a certain point you feel like you're forced to create content based on what the viewers want rather than what you would watch, to how you can feel like you're on top of the world until it suddenly sinks before you notice it... too close to home.
Heh, this reminds me of when you were about to delete your PvZ content because the viewers would only talk about it. About it, i haven't been on your channel for a while, so i dont know whether you have deleted it. I hope not...
12 years of trying, 12 years of frustration. EmpLemon has come to the golden flag to win his million subscriber button. Here's to many more. Been here since the YTPs and stayed for so much more.
I have watched his content over the years and others. 2022. Here we are, 2013 has passed. I'm doing comics and has parts of myself in them to express. It helps alot. I mean we have moved over the years, people change. And it can be hard. I think all we think of is people in our lives and their not there with us as we wish them too. The people I know have jobs and their mentality mindset is different from university. It slowly changed. Being yourself is a rebellious act. And a means to give a peice of yourself out there, not just that it relates to you but others that mind find it comforting. I mean this long video just tells how he feels. And I believe that, very and real and true. I respect him.
Holy shit, I had no idea he was the one behind those YTPs. I wasn't big into youtube, but those YTPs absolutey influenced my sense of humor as a kid. But man, so strange that long after I'd outgrown YTPs, I'd come back to this channel only for it to appeal to the current me.
"Rusty Cage" is a song by Sound Garden. It was covered by Johnny Cash. Johnny Cash also covered "Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails. "Hurt" was the final track on the 1994 Nine Inch Nails album... The Downward Spiral. (I only just now started watching this video, so I have absolutely no idea if this is already covered in it.) Surf Wisely.
As I’ve said before, Emp is one of the most prolific storytellers on this platform. He and Internet Historian are probably the two best I know of. And that still applies to Emp telling his own story.
Shaun and innuendo studios are also incredibly good! If you prefer more over the top content and less political stuff i can recommend up is not jump … very chaotic energy there ^^
Prolific litterally means to just have lots of output, it doesn't necessarily mean the output is good. Emplemon and IH are really great but they aren't prolific, they make videos a few times a year
Listened to the entire thing. After the journey, the rebellious stuff, all the hopes and dreams and frustration, and emp's thoughts on where he is now, all I could think was... *There will Never Ever be another TH-camr like Emplemon*
"12 years of trying, 12 years of frustration..." You ever want to know if someone is a NASCAR fan? Just hang around em long enough and eventually they'll throw out a reference like this completely unconsciously 🤣 Great video man, it came from the heart ✊
My introduction to your channel was the NASCAR revenge video. Watched it on a whim, and it began a journey through which I fell in love with Nascar all over again for the first time. I decided to stick around. If someone can so enthusiastically influence my interests, I have to see what else they're passionate about. I'm just seeing this video today, and it gives me a lot to think about. I never got to see your old ytps, or if I did, I wouldn't be able to recall that they were yours any longer. I held no allegiances to channels when it came to ytps. I just had my favorites and never attached a name to any. I'll always remember spingebinge or hank of the hill, but I'll be damned if I know who made em.. Regardless, I'm just a bit disappointed I missed the opportunity to offer you any kindness during that time. I hope things are and remain better. I know you'll likely never see this, if your attitude on reading comments remains(wouldn't blame you), but I suppose I want it said anyway. I love your celebrations of greatness. I gained a new respect for hbox for instance. Never really paid him any mind prior, not for anything negative, just lack of interest. But you have so many interesting videos on people pursuing their chosen brand of greatness, and it's very inspiring. With so much negativity surrounding people anymore, your showcases of strong people showing what willpower can accomplish serve to remind us that you can still have a special slice of the future that was of your making. I hope you find nothing but fulfillment and success with your work.
There is no greater milestone video than a Man who just sits down for nearly 100 minutes to just lay out his story, the pure heart of it all coming through you when you just peel away at the editing, I've been here since before the Pixar poops and I've stuck it out through the spiral, we're not going anywhere but up! Thanks for still kicking and creating engaging content, Emp, you're a true phoenix.
Having been an observer of this content for years, it's fascinating to see this downward spiral in motion, especially as someone who has witnessed the issues of being a small-time creator who makes shitposts.
TH-cam nowadays might pander to corporations and established celebrities, but people like Emplemon remind us of the site's golden years and talented creators. A time where we would have fun posting what we created and share what we liked.
Just wanted to say that you’ve been a huge part of what inspired me to start reviving my own channel. I too was getting a fraction of the views, negative sub growth, and feeling hopelessly demotivated. When I came across your new content and saw how far you had come with it, I knew there was hope for me too. Thanks Emp
I know it’s been a year since you commented here but it’s insane to me to see how you appreciate emplemons content. My younger brother (who is an absolute unit btw) loved watching your videos and still does to this day. that’s so cool to see the high octane channel personality like yourself enjoying and appreciating this sort of content. Respect to you Tanner
I don't know if you'll read this, EmpLemon, but to me, you represent what a TH-camr should strive to be. Someone who creates the art they desire to make while putting all the heart and soul they can muster, and someone who always sees right from wrong in that department. You're truly an inspiration to me, even though I'm not someone who regularly puts out content. Keep it up.
His skill is getting alot better, however he is slipping in some parts when it comes to that right or wrong. Then again TH-cam is getting worse and worse
Don't ever quit. Your videos inspire so many people, of so many places, in so many ways, some of which are extremely different from youtube content creation, that I do believe not even you has any ideia of the amplitude. Congrats on the 1 million subs, man.
Emplemon himself has never been on a downward spiral. The spiral's been trying to pull him in for years, but he keeps climbing back up. He is the mythical _upward spiral._ Much respect, my man.
"its almost like i came into this world right at the moment when everything started to go downward" i feel like this quote perfectly captures how this entire generation feels and damm every day it feels more and more true
As someone born in 2002, despite being not american I feel like this around my own country and the state of the world as whole, we born when society already peaked
@@OtakuUnitedStudioI mean...the 80s did kinda feel like the end of the world at the time. Terrible, over-excessive, and overblown fashion, popular entertainment, etc. A super divisive president in the US with Ronald Reagan (including trying to push from a Cold to Hot war, letting the AIDs epidemic go unchecked, pushing an ultimately pointless war on drugs, the Iran-Contra Affair, training the Mujahideen (now known as the Taliban) to fight the Soviets in Afghanistan, for example). The crack epidemic that was used to justify racist laws and policing against minority (especially black) communities (and may have been an intentional epidemic targeting those communities, depending on who you ask). The fears of a possible impending nuclear war.
Emplemon is truly one of the legends of the internet now. Not quitting was always the right choice, being immortalized in cultural memory of such a huge community is worth it
it can be a dream job, it's just way harder than people expect. i have my dream job as a broadcast producer, but even though i work just once a month it's still incredibly stressful making sure everything is running smoothly. im also friends with streamers and youtubers who feel the same, it's harder work than they were expecting and they get stressed like anybody else - but it's rewarding enough to make the stress worthwhile.
If you love creating things from nothing - and can successfully do that as a youtuber, no matter how tough it is you will love it and it is a dream job - nothing is ever ez but if you truly love something and can do it while making a living - it will be done and appreciated
I've been sitting with this video since watching it a few days ago. Been questioning how to respond or whether to just let it go. Obviously I decided to comment. Two things first. One, it's wonderful that you've chosen the path in which you highlight the things you love rather than always trying to torch the world. Lashing out at a seemingly indifferent world has its satisfaction, but it's a short lived pleasure. Ultimately it just eats you up. I've spent too much time myself, screaming into the void. It's just fucking exhausting when so much effort fixes absolutely nothing. Two, it must have really hurt facing so much negatively at such a young age. I understand how much of yourself you pour into your videos. I'm much older and the reasoning behind why I did them at all is completely different. But only those of us who have sweated out all the details of a project, spending hours after hours watching, rewatching, and editing to get it just right, understand how much effort it takes. It's a labor of love. I can only imagine how difficult it was having all that work shit upon. If there was any point in which I was part of that negative chorus (so many of those years I was in a pretty bad place, unaware of who I was hurting) I sincerely apologize. That said, after watching this video, I'm struck by how much hurt you're still carrying around. I see it on your face and I hear it in your voice. It manifests as anger, because anger is a much easier emotion to access. Take it from someone who spent years of his life being angry at everything and everyone without even being aware of it. It's a shield, an armor protecting you. It takes the form of rationalizing, defending at all costs, and laughing off past hurts as if they don't affect you when they clearly do. The therapy role playing certainly made for a good framing device for your video, but with respect I encourage you to actually find a professional to talk with if you haven't already. I can't overemphasize how much therapy helped, and continues to help, me to deal with my demons. It really kills me that there's still a stigma about seeking mental health. We're all struggling with something. And we all spend the majority of our lives coming to terms with our childhood. It would be funny if it wasn't so goddamn true. Your videos clearly show the work you put into them. They're a joy to watch. I usually save them for my lunchtime at work. Take care of yourself, Emp. cg
The amount of nostalgia I've felt watching this is inmense. I've been a fan of yours since 2012-2013 and been part of your audience for the entire trip. I used to love your TH-cam Poops. Even the ones people called out for being mediocre or not good enough. It came to the point where I didn't even understand why people were bitching about it. I found it entertaining and worth my time. Seeing you start that downward spiral and, paradoxically, watching you grow was something actually good to see. You had all the right to be angry at the toxic audience you had, and to be honest, I'm glad you did. I'm sorry you have felt like you didn't have us when you needed us. I felt like perhaps you weren't that active to check your comments back then. So, the fact that you actually spent that time doing so actually made me happy. Back then I wasn't sure if my feedback was heard. Now I do and I'm glad :) This said Emp, I'm very very incredibly proud of what you have accomplished until now. Be proud of yourself for not giving up as well. Time has eventually given you the opportunity to flourish to victory and that's something worth admiring Thank you for this almost decade of content. This is for another decade. Cheers 🍻
Been watching since about 2012 myself. I loved his YTPs of the past. Emp made my childhood, honestly. I remember being in high school and eagerly awaiting his new videos.
Holy shit i have not seen your name in so long, i had a feeling youd pop up in this comments section. I appreciate all the laughs you gave my childish self in the 2010s, thank you
I’m sorry that I’ve been a silent viewer that didn’t speak up when you needed it. I’ve been an avid fan since 2015, and loved everything you’ve uploaded since and before. Only a few select creators stand as the best on this site to me, and you’ve surprisingly become one of them and grown as my favorite. You helped made me realize how much I love this site and its genuine creators, and surprisingly created fantastically written and presented stories that knew how to grab my heart like no other videos. It has been quite a fun and emotional journey. Thanks.
The idea that people were upset about green Simpsons and you still stuck with it is fucking badass because it’s literally your signature thing and one of the coolest things about your channel
As someone who's been subbed to emp since his YTP days, I just kinda accepted the Simpsons were green because it's a YTP. Shit's not supposed to make sense. The people who were genuinely upset the Simpsons were green were entirely missing the point of what a YTP is.
your Dale Earnhardt video is so absolutely amazing, the nascar community loves your work, if you ever find a topic in nascar you'd enjoy diving into or covering again we would support it through and through
@@alexthrailkill ^This. I'm an Australian woman (just about as far removed from NASCAR you can get in an English-speaking country) and even I was captivated.
It blows my mind that all these YTPs I was laughing my dumbass off were produced by somebody so young. I don't know if that means your humor was very advanced or my brain was regressing
This is such a passionate and vulnerable video. I truly think you’re the best creator on the platform and this video is very intimate one that I’m sure a lot of people appreciate. Thank you, Emp. I’ve watched your videos at my highest and lowest points and I come back for “the heart.” Thank you.
Been watching your YTP since the beginning, your video’s definitely shaped my sense of humor and who I am today and I am thankful for that. Hard to believe when I was 12 years old, I was watching videos made by a kid my age. You the man, Emp
It's kinda nuts how a video-hosting website ends up shaping and determining culture in the way that it does. Good, bad, or ugly, it's just fascinating.
I remember when you kept yelling at me; *"CAN YOU UNSUBSCRIBE!?"* But I didn't, couldn't, wouldn't... You've always been one of my favorite TH-camrs. Through your spongebob phase, to Disney phase, to sub trimming phase, to now. You're awesome man! Also fuck TH-cam.
i never comment. and i’m not of the type to say things lightly. so for whatever it’s worth, i really, truly mean it, with all my heart, when i say that this video changed me. it feels like a stepping stone in my life. it just feels so very important. i am touched by your experience, and i gotta say that that final statement of aiming for the bottom was so powerful it brought tears to my eyes. i know this is not about me at all, and i know that you uploaded this many months ago and have probably shifted your attention to other things. but i just felt the need to congratulate you on your journey so far, and to deeply thank you for being here, and telling your story. it was masterfully made, and i strive for that. i’ve been watching for some time, and i really hope i can keep doing so for as long as you keep at it. it is always great stuff hope you are doing well, and cheers again on that milestone, i think it’s very well deserved
I think I and every youtuber knows the downward spiral like an old bully that shows up every few years. You remember it exists, and just as soon as you think they're gone they reappear and ruin your day or week. You can't escape it, and it's constant Great video and thank you for all your years of great content!!!
1:17:56 "You can say whatever you want about these videos, but you have to admit that they have heart. And sometimes on TH-cam, that's all people are looking for" Beautiful quote. Applicable to just about anything
This video is not just an EmpLemom retrospective but a TH-cam retrospective. With TH-cam being such an influential part of my life this video means a lot. Thank you Emp.
Welp, add another TH-camr to what appears to be an ever-growing list of folks commenting how spot on this story was in so many different ways. Keep doing what you love, whatever it may be - that's the only thing we really have control over.
Man seeing all my favorite creators in these comments make me realize major things. One being that TH-cam is a closer knit community than I thought, and EmpLemon is so talented and captivating that there are so many people, from all walks of life and all communities, that enjoy watching him and can resonate with his content. I love you and emp a lot, y’all make some great content.
1:18:07 "a lot of people out there... they don't have it so good, and a lot of them come to youtube really hard to feel something... and i'm glad that my videos have been able to provide that service to so many." This part made me tear up. Back in March my life took an unexpected turn, and I felt like I was on the verge of losing everything, my passion, my shine. I was into my deepest Downward spiral (yet, i guess), and I was left with two decisions: -The first one, was to leave and focus on healing, run away. and no one would have blamed me for that. -The second one, was to take a nosedive into That Spiral. Reach Bottom, and take the fact that i was at the lowest and lay the groundwork for the rebound. Reestructuring my life, my choices, my friendships and family relationships. my attitude and my way of thinking. I chose the latter, and i knew it wouldn't be easy, it wasn't and it still isn't but every week when i feel down, i go on youtube, and lo and behold, Dale Earnhart, Juan DeBiedma, Mick Foley, etcetera, are waiting for me, i'm sure that i have watched your Dale's video more than a dozen times. and i always cry, and i always take a deep breath, and gather the strength to go on. To "Prove That He Belonged". It has been almost four months since my life went to the gutter, and three since i took my choices. I have lost 10 Kgs. My physical appearance is better than ever, my way of thinking is not errratical anymore, i'm more focused, i have goals and im working steadily. People around me tell me that is just impressive my change. and that they are proud. I need to start being proud of myself. And I will. But i will make sure to think in my head about how much certain cranky emperor helped me to achieve that, by being one of the most eloquent storytellers i've ever seen. Thank you, Emp. Don't stop making videos.
As someone who creates more traditional art, compared to the more "indie" art of commentary and the abstractness of YTP, this really summarizes what being a creator is like. You make things just to make them, and you continue making them whenever you want to. At some point you gain an online following, gain more of a presence, but when people start expecting a certain level of quality, or a certain type of art, when you break those expectations, sure sometimes it draws in more people, but it pushes away just as many, if not more. I'm glad you're so open about your journey as a creator, and I've been following for a while, and just seeing this all laid out, reminding me of the shitshow that was 2017 was awful for everyone involved. Now, as a more established figure in some niche communities, I've gone on my own downwards spiral with my art, even if it was less comparable to some of the creators in here that I recognize. Growing up means that you learn that shit sucks, and that a lot of stuff, and a lot of people, are full of shit, and life is about turning that endless amount of shit into some fertilizer in which life, innovation, inspiration, and the positives of living in the world that we, as a global civilization, has created. Keep up the amazing stuff, and don't be afraid to take breaks. Hopefully the worst days of TH-cam are behind us.
Yknow there’s a point when expectations go from reasonable to harmful. If they’re harmful you should talk about it as soon as possible instead of waiting to self destruct.
While I may never go into the TH-cam community as a content creator, your videos would be the first ones I would say thanks to for giving me the inspiration
To think I've been here for just about every step of this madcapped adventure of yours for the past 8 years, Emp. Since 2014, I never stopped watching and I'm still amazed at all you've accomplished in your craft and how you've grown and changed and blossomed into a truly interesting content creator. Congratulations on 1 million subscribers, mate.
It really is a sight to have seen, to come in at the end of the YTP era and then into the beginning of emperorlemon molting into Emplemon. glad to see what he grew into but that doesnt mean I didnt love his stuff when I first came. Sink or swim I probably woudlve just kept watching either way, and im glad he evolved into what he is now, isntead of self destructing and give under the weight.
Just finished the video. What a trip through memory lane. Seeing the whole journey since the Uncredibles, experiencing the unsubscribe era, and then finding yourself again has been an incredible thing to witness these almost 10 years for me. Maybe it's because we have almost the same age and started with YT early, but I always felt something special with this channel. It has evolved as much as you and me (and probably many other) have in this time, experiencing the good, the bad and the ugly of life. Feeling joy, anger, frustration and wonder alongside your videos. And finally we see this journey arrive to the big milestone. What an amazing journey Emp. Congratulations, and here's for another 12 years of Downward Spiral.
Came for the ytp, stayed for the downward spiral, still laugh at green Simpsons, watch all the super well researched, edited and informative stuff, and the prog rock / great music you put with all your work. The ending of the frying Dory video gave me an existential crisis. But thankyou for all of it, and whatever you do next, I'll still be here.
I’m so glad I’m not the only one. My favorite ‘era’ definitely had to be downward spiral (2016ish). Ascended 3 is still one of my favorite poops ever. Dude’s been killing it from the start and you can be sure I’ll be here til the end.
The behind the meme video was the first one I saw. What struck me the most to this day is the passion. It wasnt some guy putting on a character there was something so genuine about it that has carried through to the rest of your content.
That video did a good job at summarizing why BTM was criticized, but the biggest issue I have with it (among things that could have been done at the time) is that he didn’t explicitly say that he didn’t hate the guy until he was in the postscript. He should’ve prefaced everything he said with that in the beginning in my opinion. But it was a solid video overall. Speaking of BTM, he’s since released a couple videos in the past couple months, and seems to be doing well and even has a kid now.
Emp, hope I make it through the wave! I'm of similar age to you, and have lurked your channel even back when ytp was your main expression. Thank you for having the balls to be yourself in spite of everything, and everyone. You offer me comfort, that somebody else has the same mentalities despite the craziness of the world.
You're just such a ridiculously compelling story teller. This video had so little editing, but it felt... raw. Thank you for sharing this moment of introspection with us. It feels ironic that from a starting place of the intense editing style of TH-cam poops, your 1 million sub video would be so sparsely edited. Never know how things will go I guess.
I'm pausing my viewing at 34:11 really quick to say that you're absolutely right and definitely not alone with being extremely frustrated at the comments on your old videos. The general distaste that even a minority of negative comments can give to content creators is something that's well-known and well-documented by creators, and yet shockingly underrecognized outside of the content creation sphere. William Osman's video where he and the other content creators he features talk about the extreme weight that negative comments carry is very telling, and I'd strongly recommend looking into it if you've never seen it. Negativity in the comments is something that absolutely warrants discussion and recognition. I'm not sure what the solution is, but I really appreciated you making a point of it here.
I've only just started watching but want to say: I love that someone born in '98 experiences the same amazing creative freedom in TH-cam, that people born in the late 80's/early 90's got with exploring Newgrounds. Rewatching the same videos and discovering new ones on Newgrounds is a true childhood moment in time for many of us all. I'm so glad to see that TH-cam inspired you in the same way Newgrounds inspired so many animators. Beautiful.
I was born in 99, a lot of us very late 90s and early 2000s kids grew up with new grounds as well. I was watching new grounds before I discovered TH-cam
@Fries A lot of the animators (and in some cases even popular trendy TH-camrs like Smosh) originally started out on Newgrounds before transitioning to TH-cam
I was subscribed ever since 60k… and the impact that this channel has had on my own TH-cam career is second to none. Emp managed to create a big enough part in my brain to use YTP tactics in normal TH-cam videos and have fun. Seeing you struggle and have fun was so inspirational. So thanks for helping me believe in myself as well. I’ll never forget you
To add to the chorus of voices here, I greatly respect your work and envy your impressive editing and storytelling ability. I hope you continue to have passion for creation and maintain success in it.
Emplemon, when you said you wanted to be a reason youtube didn't suck, instead of talking about why it did. It really resonated with me. And I think you hit the mark with that goal. I got here after the youtube poop phase was over (Which is a shame cause YTP's were some of the first things I saw on this site) but I'm very glad I stuck around.
Love that even in real life Emp is tinged highlighter green. Didn't notice until the zoomed out view where you can see Rusty's office contrast with Emp's glowing lime table. What finesse.
We'll earned Emp. You know, I'm newer here. But the thing I've noticed is that effort. This guy's passion and drive are easily seen. I'm here for it, he could talk about the history or white bread and I'd watch because he's going to teach me something and make it meaningful. Here's to the next million.
You are one of the few TH-camrs that makes me stop in my tracks when I see a video in my feed and immediately watch it. 🐐 I found your channel I through the Uncredibles. I used to make YTPs back in the day (dif channel) and used to love your stuff. Keep up the great work and I eagerly look forward to whatever you decide to upload in the future 👑
This had me so existential throughout the whole journey. Being a watcher since 11,000 and subscriber at around 25,000 it's been an insane ride. Loved showing my friends your videos from when I was like 11 until now. I feel even more odd now you're at a million. It's been a blessing at least for me to be here for so long. Thanks for all the effort that you've put in over the years. I know I can't forget it.
emp i just wanted to say thank you, i no longer make videos because of a lot of the frustrations you’ve mentioned here. so many of the ups and downs of your journey i related to. and it’s an experience few other people understand, even most youtubers present today weren’t around during those early years. so watching this was incredibly therapeutic, thank you.
this is the most narcissistic self important garbage i’ve ever sat through. the dude reads wikipedia pages and puts funny pictures on the screen during it. here he’s talking as if god himself chose him
Been here since the beginning. Even if I didn't holistically understand everything that was going on with your channel, I've enjoyed and appreciated every video you've uploaded. I think it's actually pretty funny. The whole time the "complaint" situation was going down and you were making videos like "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH" (one of my favorite of your old YTPs!) to vent your frustration, I always got laughs out of them. You did a really interesting thing with those videos, where the people who you weren't trying to get the message across like me, we just saw a funny video and laughed about it. You still made great content, despite the gripes you had with the admittedly small portion of your audience you were making them for. The people that were part of the issue knew, but people like me that just enjoy content were free to laugh at the negative. No matter whether your content is podcasts, YTPs, documentaries, or just things like "TH-cam machine broke" where you wanted to mess with the algorithm, it's all been great. Whatever magic you've got that makes your content as good and enduring as it is, keep casting those spells, wizard. They're very reliable.
I’m an old school Emp fan too and I loved stuff like Enough is Enough and all the Sempsins stuff. Ascended too. It was like YTP but trolling his audience at the same time. That definitely was the beginning in the shift of the channel. There really is no channel history like Emp’s. So unique and so rewarding for longtime viewers.
Hearing your initial rants got me through a lot in my home life and your poops were fun to enjoy, no matter what your other fans were saying. so, I had just kinda wanted to ride the spiral. I'm glad you've made this video. it kinda feels like a mix of the new, retelling the old. At the time, I never commented on anything. I just saw myself as a dumb kid that the internet didnt want to hear about. I'm sorry I couldn't have been more vocal to you.
Emp, I've been a fan since 2012, I was there when you uploaded the uncredibles, I was there when you got tired of ytps, I was there when you complained about complaining, I was there when you went after behind the meme, I was even there when you were apparently struggling the most in 2017, I've been here this entire time, being a fan of you has been one of the most proudest things to be a "fan" of. It's been a while ride of which I've enjoyed much to your anger. Of all the near thousands of youtubers I've watched over the course of being on youtube since 2006, I've never met a youtuber that I've genuinely stuck with since their beginning and actually stayed with them, especially when they attempt to "sanitize" their content, similar to how you did with the TH-cam Geographic and vices such as. I can't put it better than I can this way, you are to youtube as nirvana was to rock. Embrace your downward spiral but don't shotgun yourself like Kurt. Whether or not you have a predetermined "destiny", you have something a majority on this site can't say they have. You have talent.
it's video's like this, that make me truly love watching Emp's videos. They're so different than anything else on the site, with thought provoking topics and discussions that really give off a one of a kind vibe. It's so good, and definitely the reason that, in my opinion, there will *Never Ever be another TH-camr like EmpLemon.* Keep on doing what *YOU* do (though it's quite obvious you don't need anyone to really tell you that).
Found you at your Enough is Enough period, really respect the honesty and no minced words at the time, telling me to unsub if I don't watch or enjoy your videos did some reverse psychology fuckery because I proceed to watch every single video you put out from then onward. Never really said it before, but Never Ever is one of the best series in existence.
The Greenest of Simpsons The Empest of Lemons The Downwardest of Spirals It can only mean one thing: More YTP. Jokes aside, love seeing another introspective video, Emp.
It's insane to me that you managed to keep my attention for almost 2 hours, on something so introspective and personal. It reminds me a lot about that Frying Comments vid you did a bit ago, and as someone who joined the ride only during the Behind the Meme era, this probably doesn't mean a lot to you, but I whole heartedly believe that you're one of the best and most inspiring creators on the platform. Keep doing what you love, and we'll love it back tenfold. Take care Emp, you got this.
I still remember watching the UNcredibles in 2014 and absolutely laughing my ass off, only for it to eventually go away... I somewhat miss you not making YTPs anymore, but your current content is definitely worth it.
I remember subbing around the 2016 era because of how unrestrained that particular era was. Every video felt unhinged yet weirdly elegant in how you littered small bits of chaos throughout the video (Bass boosting, screaming directly into the mic, clips of WWE and media that was barely related to the topic at hand) It scratched a particular itch during a time of uninspired commentary channels and prank channels
Came for the poops in 2012, so proud of how far you’ve come. Still a watcher and so happy you’ve switched your direction and made some of the best and most interesting and informative videos in the last 5 years. Love you dude
It felt cool just sitting down and hearing your thoughts on your entire career. Thank yourself for being who you are today, cuz im happy how you turned out to be despite the struggles you have experienced :)
I wasn't expecting to feel nostalgic watching this, but my original channel was subbed to you long before Frying Nemo, so this really was a trip down memory lane. I've been here for the long haul, and I will continue to do so 🙏 Keep on rocking it, my dude
@@danjoredd Lol yeah I was kind of mixed on his content back in the day, one of those things where I just sort of tolerated the fact that the creator is being an a-hole, like watching drama vids. It was a guilty pleasure
We must defend this man at all costs. EmpLemon is one of the most intellegent pioneers of TH-cam. I've been watching Emp's content since his YTP era and have stuck with him through and through. Knowing the turmoil that many TH-camr's like Emp have faced on this platform, I have nothing but respect to this man. Depite the many hardships, he never gave up and I'm glad that Emp is getting the attention and love he deserves. If EmpLemon was to be elected as a representative of all TH-camr's, I wouldn't have it any other way. Here's to a hopeful future on TH-cam.
one thing I have to say about removing the ytps 1:27:30 is that enough is enough was an important video in this channel's history and youtube in general - it was very bitter for sure but it was very revealing about the community itself, besides the fact that it was perhaps one of your best ytp work
Discovered your content through JJ McCullough’s video titled “Is Modern Life too Artificial”. At the start of the video he references your comprehensive video on “Mac Tonight”. I watched your video and became fascinated at the idea that a figure from an opera written 300 years ago can be twisted so far beyond its original purpose it becomes unrecognizable. I watched all your other videos in that vein. My personal favorite is the Talladega video, I’m going to the race this October. Love the content, keep it up
Just what we needed! I love learning your history, I'm a huge fan, and hearing the full story is amazing to me! You made my teenhood, and seeing you evolve the way you did is fascinating to you, it's sad you're done with YTPs, but what you have done will continue on, and I hope what you do will be rewarded.
I can't tell you how much I needed this video. I've been wondering for a while why my willingness to make videos has been on such a steady decline. It's because I keep forgetting that I can't stand compromising my creative vision for the sake of better engagement/marketing/making money, and I let it infect my work. I'm about to launch three new channels and I NEEDED to remember that, just like you, I only give a shit if it's fun, and I'd rather give up and do something else than compromise that whatsoever. All I can say is thanks, man. You inspire me.
Bro you literally made my childhood with your YTP’s back then, and now your documentaries are aging with your audience. You’ve still got a long road ahead of you!

My introduction to your channel was the NASCAR revenge video. Watched it on a whim, and it began a journey through which I fell in love with Nascar all over again for the first time. it can be a dream job, it's just way harder than people expect. i have my dream job as a broadcast producer, but even though i work just once a month it's still incredibly stressful making sure everything is running smoothly. im also friends with streamers and youtubers who feel the same, it's harder work than they were expecting and they get stressed like anybody else - but it's rewarding enough to make the stress worthwhile.
If you love creating things from nothing - and can successfully do that as a youtuber, no matter how tough it is you will love it and it is a dream job - nothing is ever ez but if you truly love something and can do it while making a living - it will be done and appreciated
It is a dream job but it isn't easily
It is a dream job. The fact is that most don't get views no matter the effort lol

I ain’t reading allat 😭😭
Now I do and I'm glad :)
This said Emp, I'm very very incredibly proud of what you have accomplished until now. Be proud of yourself for not giving up as well. Time has eventually given you the opportunity to flourish to victory and that's something worth admiring
Thank you for this almost decade of content. This is for another decade. Cheers 🍻
Ur a tru legend too. Reactors like Charmx (peace be upon him) introduced me to YTPs about 7years ago. And YTPs have evolved so much sense then
Been watching since about 2012 myself. I loved his YTPs of the past. Emp made my childhood, honestly. I remember being in high school and eagerly awaiting his new videos.
Completly agree
Holy shit i have not seen your name in so long, i had a feeling youd pop up in this comments section. I appreciate all the laughs you gave my childish self in the 2010s, thank you

The Downward Spiral isn’t about spiraling down the hole, it’s about infinitely crawling and clawing your way to make sure you don’t fall farther.
Walking down a flight of stairs is easy but walking up them isnt as easy. I guess thats one way you can figuratively think of the spiral.
@@Zach014G the downward spiral is just a downward escalator, you're always on the climb, but sometimes some jerk cranks up the speed and down you go

Thanks.
Same for me.

It's kinda nuts how a video-hosting website ends up shaping and determining culture in the way that it does. Good, bad, or ugly, it's just fascinating.
I remember when you kept yelling at me; *"CAN YOU UNSUBSCRIBE!?"*

1:18:07 "a lot of people out there... they don't have it so good, and a lot of them come to youtube really hard to feel something... and i'm glad that my videos have been able to provide that service to so many."
This part made me tear up. Back in March my life took an unexpected turn, and I felt like I was on the verge of losing everything, my passion, my shine. I was into my deepest Downward spiral (yet, i guess), and I was left with two decisions:
-The first one, was to leave and focus on healing, run away. and no one would have blamed me for that.

Every video felt unhinged yet weirdly elegant in how you littered small bits of chaos throughout the video (Bass boosting, screaming directly into the mic, clips of WWE and media that was barely related to the topic at hand) It scratched a particular itch during a time of uninspired commentary channels and prank channels

one thing I have to say about removing the ytps 1:27:30 is that enough is enough was an important video in this channel's history and youtube in general - it was very bitter for sure but it was very revealing about the community itself, besides the fact that it was perhaps one of your best ytp work
Discovered your content through JJ McCullough’s video titled “Is Modern Life too Artificial”. At the start of the video he references your comprehensive video on “Mac Tonight”. I watched your video and became fascinated at the idea that a figure from an opera written 300 years ago can be twisted so far beyond its original purpose it becomes unrecognizable.
