I'm here now and its wonderful. I made the mistake of getting sushi today. Nope! I will go back to the Mercado November 20 tomorrow, eat, and do a video on it. Fun to eat mole there yesterday.

Feels good to watch the streets I walk on everyday! Even watching Zaachila the place of birth of my Grandmother! Something as common as those food stands take a whole new perspective.
Between this and the upcoming Close Look videos, it feels nice to watch videos of my hometown from my fav content creators

Tlayudas are the most amazing thing I have ever tasted in my life. I've yet to find a single place here in the USA that sells them, which is honestly depressing. They're like the most incredible "Mexican pizza", for lack of better words, that you could imagine. The Oaxacan cheese that covers them is tangy with a texture like a very firm mozzarella, and the tortillas end up at a unique point between crispy and soft due to the way they are grilled over a fire. In all of my time travelling throughout Mexico, I can say that Tlayudas are the greatest thing I had and are the thing I crave most since moving back.

Oaxaca wasn't founded by Aztecs. Aztecs are a completely different culture from the southern part of Mexico. It was founded by Mixtec and then occupied by Zapotecs. Edit. Founded by Zapotecs and then occupied by Mixtecs.

    • @onegrapefruitlover
      @onegrapefruitlover 5 ปีที่แล้ว +18

It kinda was. Monte Albán was a Zapotec city, but the city of Oaxaca itself was founded by the Mexicas after the last Mexica-Zapotec war, where the territory was conquered by the Mexicas.
It sounded weird to me too when I heard it, but it seems to be the truth.

Gringoes do not care about the difference between pre Hispanic tribes.
To them Incas, Mayas, Aztecas, Zapotecas, Chichimecas and Toltecas are the same thing.

Many people say that they make the same dishes here in places like California, Texas, Arizona, NM and so on but the one thing that they just can’t get right is that certain rustic part that really hits home with Mexican food, many times when people say what’s your favorite Mexican restaurant is difficult to answer cause the best food usually is made by mother, that or some friend of my mom who makes food and sells, i think it’s the more niche dishes that really are amazing, that not many people other than Mexicans know of, and with different regions there is just a mountain of different flavors that can’t be replicated here in the states.

Mexican Pizza is really similar to a dish "Pizza Quesadilla" that is fantastic for camping or a simple dinner:
    - Put a flour tortilla in a hot pan.
    - Drop in mozzarella cheese on the tortilla.
    - Spoon in some pizza sauce.
    - Add toppings.
    - Fold over
    - Flip after the first half of the tortilla browns a bit.
    - Once the other half browns, enjoy!
We eat this every time we go camping. It's only creates one dish + one spatula that need cleaning and is a very satisfying dinner.

It could also be that they live somewhere where the ingridients aren't available and they never thought of making them. You should really go and soak in the culture there, it's sad when you have such rich heritage and haven't had that connection and familiarity with it. Sometimes migrant parents become focused on instilling the host countries culture and unfortunately some things aren't passed on.

Can anglo media stop naming the Mexikas as Aztecs?
Aztecs where from Aztlan a mythic city. Mexicas were the ones who settled in the valley of mexico. Please just stooop.
Is like adressing chinese people as japanese.

Its a shame that such a great video opens so poorly. Oaxaca wasn't founded by the Aztecs (supposing Aztecs even existed).By the time the Excan Tlatoloyan (the people anglo culture confuses with "Aztecs") reached Zapotec lands they have been already fighting with the Mixtecs for control of the area for centuries.

I'd probably like the prickly pear ice cream. The rest I wouldnt mind trying but look more like something youd love if you were raised on it.

Beryl, Oaxaca wasn't founded by Aztecs, and it isn't in Central Mexico. It's located at the South-East.
