    That's the Jetronic M119, correct? On later (the last) M119's which used Motronic, had Mercedes made "their *conversion" to Torx fasteners* yet? I just hate hex-head fasteners with their inherent low-torque handling.

      Hello, the earlier fuel injection system was the KE Jetronic that had the fuel distributor with all the hard lines coming off it. The later years were LH Jetronic, which this one is.

      I forgot to answer your other question. Yes, this is before the Torx fasteners.

      @@FriendlyMBTech And I meant to say Allen-head but said hex head! I know the year varies by platform/application, but for instance I think only the 1997 W210 E420 got the M119 with Motronic (distributors replaced by camshaft angle-sensors, coil-on-plug ignition, etc.) I think the R129 had the M119 Motronic system from 96-98 model years. But, what do I know? I stay drunk most of the time!

    ❓Question❓
    Why replace/swop out the entire engine in the car, instead of repairing the head gasket/s and other issues?

    • @FriendlyMBTech
      @FriendlyMBTech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There was no telling how overheated the engine got. It was easier to replace it and rebuild the engine that was already outside the car.

    Hello! On a hot engine, it stalls. M 119. Thanks.

      What year is the M119? What car is it in? Are you able to restart it after it stalls?

    The inside of the engine looks dirty how many miles has this engine covered?

      The place I ordered it from said about 94k. They also guaranteed that the compression was good, which it seems to be.

    Hello can you confirm if the Part No for the Upper Cam Chain guides is the same for left and right?

      The upper timing chain guides that mount at the top under the valve cover are different left and right.

      @@ahemgee9542 if the part number for the left is A 119 050 03 16 then the right side is A 119 050 02 16. If these aren't the part numbers you're looking for, let me know and we will do more digging around.

    This was very helpful. Thank you. I’ve just ordered a new set of tappets. Hopefully we’ll fix this tick yet. Also, does this engine have an idle air control valve or a digital throttle body?

    • @FriendlyMBTech
      @FriendlyMBTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The engine has a mass air flow sensor mounted vertically to the throttle valve which is directly in the center of the intake manifold. The replacement engine didn't come with those parts so I'll ship them when I get to swapping parts over.

    • @TheHairyGhost
      @TheHairyGhost 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FriendlyMBTech I just looked at that today. The MAF sensor was filthy as well as the throttle valve. I removed and cleaned the throttle body, replaced my plugs and leads and my problem went away. 50% of startups would result in major RPM surges as if the car couldn’t find idle. I’m so glad you are doing a series on this engine because I want to bring my E420 back to life.

      @@TheHairyGhost I replaced a MAF on a W140 with a M119 for that exact issue. It also had a vacuum leak between the vacuum block under the passenger foot well and one of the circuits.

    Should I buy a running 400E with 202,000 miles for around $3000

    • @FriendlyMBTech
      @FriendlyMBTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on the service history and actual condition. If it doesn't need any engine work and it's in good condition then that might not be a bad price. Like Gerry Van Zandt said, "There's nothing more expensive than a cheap Mercedes". You're better to pay up front for one in good condition rather than dumping money into it all the time. I'm $6k deep and I've never heard it run 😆
