Spraying plaster… putting the Graco Mark V to the test!

Once again PaintAccess has teamed up with paint industry influencer Harriet, this time to respond to requests from followers and subscribers for tips on how to spray plaster to achieve a “Level 5” finish.
Starting with a pre-preapred Gyprock plasterboard wall panel - with gaps filled and sanded - PaintAccess CEO Dan prepares Gyprock plaster top coat to a sprayable consistency. The Graco Mark V is positioned over the bucket of plaster and the inlet is lowered into the plaster. With a few adjustments, Dan primes the sprayer and applies TSL oil. Once the pressure is set (at around 2300 psi), it’s time to start spraying.
Dan applies the plaster smoothly and evenly, moving the sprayer up and down at a consistent pace.Once the first layer of plaster has been applied, it is smoothed out with the Smoothing Blade from Graco. As the video shows, it can help to work together to apply even pressure to the surface and make sure you produce a smooth finish.
Then it’s time to spray on a second coat. Again, Dan uses a smooth up-and-down spraying motion to ensure consistent coverage. Meanwhile, Harriet follows with the Graco Smoothing Blade to smooth the applied plaster immediately. Then a quick swap and Harriet puts the Graco Mark V through its paces. What teamwork!
Of course, excess plaster removed with the Graco Smoothing Blade can go straight back into the feeder bucket to be sprayed on in the next layer. This process reduces waste and ensures a smooth and even finish across the whole surface of the wall panel. And it goes to show just how efficient and cost-effective spraying plaster can be.

After sanding with Mirka it comes up pretty good level 5 finish

If u use 525tip the size of the dot like orange peel and then u can sand it of with 150 and ur ready

Thank you Stuart, full plastering is good practice when wall gets direct light. As light shows all joints, when you make skim coat it covers all perfectly and joints are not visible anymore

Check out Knauf airless plaster products. Polymer based so it come pre mixed in bags or drums. Its not the traditional gypsum based plaster that needs mixed with water. Depending on room temp and humidity you may need to add a little water into the hopper but it's basically ready to go. 2 coats at no more than 2mm thick. Easy skimmed and easy sand, real smooth finish. More ideal for large jobs. Small room probably best to stick with your traditional skilled plasterer. There other spray plasters out there as well.

My goodness. You should always run clean water thru rig to wash out pump saver prior to pumping into material. You never ever want to prime your line thru the tip in reverse. You never want to spray your tip in reverse for more than one second to clear clog, as it will rapidly wear out the tip. Remove the whole guard, once you have primed your line place guard and tip on gun…. Love instructional videos with nonsense such as this
