    Decided to try out Total Wireless and I'm confirming that the max download/upload speeds are no longer capped. I get excellent LTE coverage here in Oceanside, CA and I'm loving the add-on carry-over data that rolls over from month to month and never expires with active service. Awesome deal on the Verizon network! Please note; there is no Visual Voicemail, WiFi Calling or Mobile Hotspot with this wireless service.

    FreedomPop is definitely worth taking a look at. I've used their service since they offered WiMax devices years ago. They have a great variety of devices, and different services (Sprint CDMA, Global-GSM, and AT&T-GSM). My FreedomPop hotspot has saved me on long car trips and during power outages.

    Heavy research brought me to FreedomPop years ago, and I've been extremely satisfied with my wife's iPhone 5 and my iPhone 5s coverage and services. You can either bring your own device to FreedomPop (like what I did with my iPhone 5 originally), or you can purchase a phone through FreedomPop (like what we did with my wife's iPhone 5). This video really explains the flexibility in FreedomPop well too! Inexpensive and best option!

    You never tested out Textnow wireless. It uses T-Mobile and Sprint. But Sprint is the best in my area. TextNow has a plan as low as $13.99 for unlimited talk text and data! Great for people who don't use a lot of data and have wifi everywhere like my area and you can even still make calls without any data! Textnow wins

    What plan length were you basing Mint Sim prices on out of curiosity? You can get 10 gigs for $25, 5 GB for $20 and $15 for 2 GB if you sign up for the 12 month plan which I'm sure you already know, but I wasn't seeing any of those prices in my manage plan section. But again just curious not trying to seem nit picky! Thanks for this very informative video. :)

    I had most of them, but Sprint. My opinion from Chicago IL.
    Boost cheap and bad
    Cricket cheap and OK, but if you travel far, I mean towards WI, the signal is not so good; talking about Internet. Talking and texting are OK since they are on Att network
    Verizon expensive but not better than t-mobile. Those taxes are insane. Customer service bad
    Att has a good customer service, but the plans are expensiveeee
    T-Mobile is the choice for me personally. Why?
    70$ unlimited and I get:
    Same signal as Verizon
    Cheaper than Verizon since all the taxes are included in this 70
    Better coverage than boost or cricket
    Good toward excellent customer service

      i live in Chicago as well and your are right with your choice. T-Mobile is the way to god, but not near better then Verizon. I choice T-mobile bc they as cheaper with very good data speeds.

    Using prepaid wireless service is a great way to save money! I was with Cricket Wireless for 2 years and just recently switched to AT&T Prepaid and have the 3rd and 12th months free with their current offer (ends 9/21/17). Their 6 GB plan is great (I posted a speed test), but their unlimited plan has restrictions.

    For FreedomPop, I recommend using the LTE GSM SIM card, unless you need Premium Voice or stuff like that.
    Few Tips:
    - Remember to downgrade and turn off Auto Top Up
    - FreedomPop App or Google Voice / Hangouts or TextNow
    - GSM Sims do not have the 1 Mbps cap that it is on the Sprint network.
    - Plus there is an activation fee on the Sprint BYOP.
    - Remember to use FreedomPop Friends

    • @vickik3179

      I agree on the Auto top -up. That one got me just this week. I didn't realize I had mine turned on.

  • @jokeing7

    So sprint has the only unlimited plan that doesn't cap you after 22 gig of data usage? If that's the case I would go with sprint

    • @sumith563

      i work for sprint and the data cap is 22gb as well

    • @Awesomeboyscout

      Unlimited Freedom plan doesn't have data cap. They only de-prioritize users who have consumed 23gb during peak hours. After that it should go back to normal speed. But you need to survey first if Sprint has good coverage in your area.

    • @Mrhandyhitman
      @Mrhandyhitman 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stellatrix sounds about right i have that plan and easily use about 40 gigs a month. Other than some bad network connections at random times of the day in my own home or some areas I'm in around the city, its pretty good!

    Do you think we will ever get fully unlimited data again in the future?

    • @samueljames8368
      @samueljames8368 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Eduardo Bermudez I actually still have Verizon's unlimited plan from years ago and not the new ones and after speaking with a few reps at Verizon my unlimited is truly unlimited as I am not subjected to prioritization after 22 GB if there's a tower near me that's congested and there's also no speed drop off with wifi hotspot. They've been trying to get me off my plan forever but I'm keeping it for future proofing unless they decide to just force me off and if that happens I'll probably look elsewhere but right now I'm paying 117 a month for a single line to keep this plan going

      mike hawk T-Mobile they offer it included unlimited but it's slow they do have a $95 plan for unlimited use of it . And Verizon is 15GB for $85 also T-Mobile has 10GB hotspot for $80

  • @jmsether
    @jmsether 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Being de-proritised means that you are throttled on the data after you use the cap allotted. Speeds are reduced to 128kbps

    • @NSchoenfelder
      @NSchoenfelder 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      jmsether That is not true. Deprioritization and throttling are two different things entirely.
      What does it mean to be throttled? Let's say you hit your 2GB plan on Verizon or AT&T or T-Mobile or Sprint... since it's not "Unlimited" that's when you'll get the 128kbps or 2g like speeds. ( Those speeds will continue for the remainder of the month, until you pay your next bill.
      Deprioritization means you hit say 22GB on AT&T and if there are thousands of people using the network at once you'll get slower speeds. ( for a few minutes usually) until it's normal.

    Amazing and informative video !! I jump around carriers all the time trying out their various unlimited plans :D
    It’s all about prepaid!! Currently on Metropcs 60 unlimited . Might go back to Cricket. Wish Verizon worked in my house :/ and don’t trust Sprint enough yet (I live in the boonies still)
    My biggest gripe with the carriers now is throttled video -_- I get unlimited but it’s 480p! Why do I have a phone with an HD screen then? I don’t mind paying more, just give me the option. Sure down the line they will.

    I'm currently on Republic Wireless, via a "buy 1 month of service, get 6 months free" promo for GSM BYOD they ran in May. (Before that, I switched my RingPlus phone to Tello when RingPlus went belly-up (and the Tello phone swapped to a "universal unlocked" Moto G4 Play before I switched that device to RW); I also had a Blu R1 HD on PureTalk USA (not enough data at a price I could afford), then on MintSIM (terrible TMobile coverage in my town, plus mediocre-at-best customer support) over the fall & winter, before I sold it about the same time I lost my other device's nearly-free service on RingPlus.)
    My daughter switched to FreedomPop's CDMA side when she lost the RingPlus service (she's a grad student with minimal income), and my son has a "dumb" phone on Tracfone (and does autobilling from his bank account for the minimal service he needs). My elderly mom has one of Tracfone's smartphones and uses their top-up cards, but has rollover minutes "out the wazoo", because she's very diligent about adding service days via the top-up cards before the current service period expires.

    • @StetsonDoggett
      @StetsonDoggett  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Teltik officially offers the best unlimited plan, but it's for businesses. So there are some hoops you need to go through to sign up. I recommend the MetroPCS unlimited plan because it's best for individuals. I'll actually probably be updating the website soon.

    You left out the sprint unlimited deprioritization after 23 gigs. I have this plan and have experienced this first hand. But although they say it is during peak times, I was dropped to 2-3 g speeds for months after. I was out of town on business and anything requiring data was just useless! Even after the next billing cycle began, my speeds remained slow. I called support over and over and was told how to reset my subscriber settings, but this would only work for under a minute. This went on until I had stayed well under the 23 gig limit for the next 2 months. Needless to say I have not went over again!

    Something is missing from Unlimited Plans. Boost Mobile is $50 Unlimited Plan. Like Sprint network although fees are too high for Sprint.

    • @StetsonDoggett
      @StetsonDoggett  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I refrain from recommending Boost because of their limited BYOD support. I advocate for buying devices factory unlocked from the manufacturers and bringing them to your carrier of choice, and since Boost can sometimes be difficult in that respect, I usually will recommend other carriers over them.

    It all isn't about price. It also depends on where you live. In Clover and Ft Mill SC The Verizon signal is so poor it isn't even an option here. AT&T and Sprint are the best in this area. Verizon has been trying to build a tower in Clover but residents where they want to put it have been raising hell and won't allow it to happen. I would like to know how many of those people raising hell have a cell phone?

    What a difference 5 years makes! In retrospect I would not put my money into any of MVNOs besides the ones owned by MNO or you'll be jumping from one to another like a chicken with a head cut off. Cricket is OK for AT&T, Visible for Verizon and Metro for T-Mobile. Today everybody can get an inexpensive unlimited plan too. I don't miss the days where I had to monitor my data just not to lose the connectivity or pay outrageous overage fees.

    I have had Sprint for years, there data is absolutely horrible in most areas at least in South West Florida. I have to give credit where credit is due though, I have never had a dropped call before with them. That's why I'm looking for a good prepaid service now.

    There may be competition for T-Moblie's 55 plus plan which has one line for $50 unlimited monthly and two for $60 total including tax on autopay with prioritization up to 50 GB a month. Verizon is testing a $60 unlimited plan in Florida which is a mecca for the elderly.

    HOW DO YOU GET A SPRINT FREEDOMPOP SIM????

    • @CortMarshal
      @CortMarshal 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sprint doesn't work with sims like other carriers. There's a bring your own Sprint device fee for their Sprint plans if you have the Sprint sim that is specific to your device

      Dhrumil Shah (Personal) As far as I can tell, when you order a phone from Freedompop, it will be activated on the Sprint network. If you order a SIM card from them, it will be on GSM/LTE. My SIM uses the AT&T network. I always find it funny when my Freedompop phone is getting a better signal than my actual Sprint phone that I pay $$$$ for. My preference so far is my Freedompop SIM that I have running in my old (now unlocked( iPhone 6). I have another Freedompop phone running on Sprint and it runs equal to my actual Sprint phone.

      You can get one directly from Sprint (m.sprint.com/shop/mobile/shop/accessory/ao/accessory_details.jsp?accSKU=105500049) or Ting (ting.com/shop/sim), and visit www.freedompop.com/byod to activate it on Freedompop.

    Cricket, for some reason, doesn't do 8mbps anymore. They now lowered it down to 4mbps. It's horrible! I'm planning on switching to Verizon prepaid now that they got a bit generous with their data.

    • @StetsonDoggett
      @StetsonDoggett  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Looks like Cricket's website still has 8Mbps as the official speed cap. Their "Unlimited 2" plan is capped at 3Mbps though.
