I'm with you on that, in the last couple years I started to detest intros and babble. People try and ride the algo by stretching 3 minutes of content out to be 10 to get more views and I cant stand it
Finally, if you purchase your iPhone directly from Apple and decide you’re not happy with it in the 14-day buyer’s remorse period, Apple charges you zero dollars to return it. Verizon and other carriers will charge you a minimum restocking fee of $50.00.
I tried to explain this very scenario to friends but they end up doing the exact opposite and later complain when their bills are higher, their grandfathered plans no longer apply because there are usually stipulations that apply when you upgrade through a carrier that push you into higher tier plans and they are bound to that phone for 3 years. They always wonder why I always go directly through apple and purchase my phones outright but it's something I've done for the last 6 years, while always selling my previously used for for at least 70% of what I paid, sometimes more. Whatever makes them happy though and I stopped offering help when it comes to phones since I end up just wasting time because they see the big trade in offer and their eyes just light up and that seems to always win them over.
@@ralphmarra1565 I’m far from being rich. I work for my money and I recoup most of the money I spend on a new iPhone by selling the last iPhone I was using, which is usually around 70% of the cost of the new phone. %1000 Agree 👍🏾 that’s exactly what I do, buy outright from Apple and put it on my awesome grandfathered phone plan. For those that say they can’t afford buying outright, most can in tax season 😎
The trade in offers from some of the carriers makes it seem like a no-brained through them. If I have an iPhone 13 and I buy my phone from AT&T, I get $1000 as a trade in credit per month. I don’t have a reason to leave my carrier in the next 3 years, and I’m saving $1000 over those 3 years. If I want to be eligible to upgrade, I can pay $10 per month for the next up program and still save 700ish on the phone. I just want what gives me the most money.
I'm on a grandfathered T-Mobile plan. It's literally cheaper for me to just pay it in full through Apple than T-Mobile on account of how cheap it is alone.
@@mida8261 I’m grandfathered in from Sprint, now TMobile. What should I do man? Buy it in full and try to sell my 12 mini on eBay, etc, or trade it in T-Mobile, get about $300 which reduced my payment to $22 for 24months(ends up being $700)??
Yes they are so pissed with verizon... wanted to upgrade to iphone 16 but because I have an android though them i can't I have to pay my phone off first they said that they no longer do early upgrades with android phones just iphones and had I known that I wouldn't have gotten the s23 ultra .... and I've been with veriozn for 13 years smdh
So do what I do and scam them back. Trade in an old cheap phone to get the "free" upgrade. Do the upgrade at Apple to get an unlocked phone. Sell the phone.
Rich people aren’t really rich like people think. They just finance the hell out of everything and have a bunch of payments to make. It’s also why the non-savvy rich person loses everything in a financial crisis like 2008.
I agree with you, to an extent. I’d say you’re right about the 100 vs the 700, however I’d say the problem is more-so an instant gratification problem and the fact that people don’t understand money! So the example you gave is exactly why/how these companies no longer have “contracts” and they do these plans. Do you remember hoe it used to be? You’d get the new iPhone for 200 dollars (300 for the best, most expensive phone) and then it’s yours! Once your 2 year contract is up, you can do as you please! If you decided you didn’t want to stay with the company for the 2 years, you’d pay the 250 dollar cancellation fee and you’d have the new iPhone for 450 bucks! Now we pay over a grand! Lol A lot of people really aren’t that smart! Or you can take the nicer, instant gratification route. lol
When I first got my iPhone 12 Pro Max back in late 2020 we decided to buy it at the Apple Store instead of buying it from AT&T and it was the best decision we ever did
Phones also depreciate regardless of the storage capacity. An older 1tb phone might have a trade in value of $120. Pretty ridiculous if you ask me. Might as well sell the phone myself.
Another reason not to buy from T-mobile is because if you’re buying a regular iPhone 16 or iPhone 16 plus it costs $30 more, the iPhone 16 is $830 at T-mobile instead of $800 and the iPhone 16 plus is $930 instead of $900 from Apple
I just did the math. To get my $810 credit from T-Mobile I need to spend $600 more over two years ($999 + 600 - $810 = $789 iPhone 16 Pro cost). To buy through Apple $999 - $400 trade in $599. Apple is cheaper.
Exactly!! And if you have the Appel credit card you don’t have to worry about having all the money upfront. And Appel doesn’t charge you interest on any Appel products as long as you use their credit card!
I’ve always bought mine from apple. What I do is I set aside money over a period of time and keep adding to it then I just buy the phone in one go and put it on a prepaid plan. It’s way cheaper that way and less of a hassle in the long run. Another thing is I want to actually KEEP my old phone when I upgrade instead of trade it in for a tiny fraction of what it’s actually worth. Can’t imagine doing an expensive contract plan...
Forget the miserly trade-in payments. When my last phone threw a tantrum, I took the older one out of the drawer, moved the SIM, and had a working phone in fifteen minutes. So finding a shop that could fix the new one was no rush. That's worth more than the trade-in value.
To your 3rd point… there may be tax savings when trading in via Apple. At least in my state, I do not pay tax on the ~$500 instant credit from my trade in. Saved me an additional ~$50
As someone who went through Verizon instead of Apple, none of the reasons listed here would sway me. Sure, I get less trade-in credit, but I get the iPhone sooner, a protection plan cheaper, and I get 30 days to trade-in my iPhone before the deal expires. That sounds like a big series of wins to me.
I’m a 24 year T-Mobile customer, (well, 5 year, 19 year sprint) and with these guys, if your not on their two top go plans, you are left out of any good deal worth having. I was going to go through Apple for that purpose anyway, but thankfully I came across this video to solidify my decision even more, thanks
No your not.. If you're 55 or older you get the 55+ Next plan at $65.00 a month..Which makes the trade in $1,000.00. You end up paying $16.00 a month for the 24 months..
Just called and found out this today. I’m paying $68 on my plan and they said I have to go on those 5go plans for $100-120 in order to get the promotions 😂
Please reply to me if you bought an iphone in best buy usa or even walmart in full price would they unlock it right away? Or should you wait 60 days for it to unlock?
Thank you so much for the video, after watching I decided to stay with t mobile. Reasons: 1) My iPhone was unlocked after 60 days. 2) I’m paying 31$/line with unlimited data, talk and text. 3) Abroad plan already included , if I go abroad I will have 15 gb with no extra pay. 4) Netflix and Apple one included. Conclusion what is the reason having unlocked phone when t mobile is the cheaper than att or Verizon. Also t mobile has a feature giving you temporary unlock if you’re abroad.
The unlock policies are about to change, the FCC is going to require all devices purchased from carriers to be unlocked within 60 days of purchase regardless how it was purchased.
Wait really? Some kind of new lawsuit or something? That sounds like great news and would probably be one of the main reasons to even consider buying from Apple instead of a carrier.
$30 a month for both is amazing for a phone plan, great work. We use mint mobile as well, been buying my phones unlocked for a while now. You get to avoid all the hidden contract fees, weird various limitations (Such as SIM locking) and other ways the big carriers find ways to restrict you.
for international travel it's far easier to use eSIM. I am still frustrated with the fact that my 11 pro can only use 1 SIM. I shouldn't have switched to eSIM for my domestic plan. anyway, getting a new iphone this year
That last one is actually so frustrating. I traded in my old iPhone 13 for the iPhone 14 and was offered 800 dollars in trade in credits but only 400 of it, or something like that, went to the phone and the other 400 went to paying for the actual bill of the phone plan I was on. First and last time I buy through a carrier
You can do the whole thing towards the phone lol 😆. Just wait till they have the device you need in store that way you can do the whole thing towards the phone .
I mean if you have the 700+ dollars to pay for these phones directly from Apple then sure go ahead, I can’t drop that much at a single time for a stupid phone so I go with the plans. I also don’t change carriers so unlocking a phone is not a priority of mine.
I have a Apple Card and I traded in my 3 year old iPhone. Got 400 bucks off the phone and then with the Apple Card I only pay a 0% monthly installment plan of 24 bucks a month
You can still finance the phone through Apple using the Apple Card that’s what I did, just paid taxes and connectivity fee. But yeah dropping big dollars on any phone is a big decision
I saw the title and I haven’t even started the video ( the ads are still playing ) I can say this is 100% accurate ‼️ I had my phone 13 pro max & was upgrading to the iPhone 15 pro max. I was going to go through T-Mobile upgrade the value I was getting for my phone 13 was so much less than what Apple offer which was like x2. Apple will give you more back for your old iPhone than T-Mobile will ever offer.
I will say another benefit just be coming from a technician standpoint if you ever forget your passcode and have to talk to Apple. If you bought it from them, they can just pull your receipt from there and it’s 10 times easier to get your account back and have them unlock your phone.
That trade in credit thing is a good point, when trading in a phone that apple actually gives credit for… for a iPhone 4s, bill credits is the only option… either way it’s gonna end up free for me as I don’t want to leave Verizon anyways lol
I travel overseas sometimes and need an unlocked phone to use a foreign phone network. I always buy unlocked. What I don’t get is why it costs me $20 or $30 more to buy it unlocked from Apple. You may say it comes unlocked but something is weird if they’re charging less money if I get the t-mobile version instead of the unlocked version. I don’t trust that so I just pay the extra to make sure.
You’re also forgetting the fourth main factor and that is the resale value. Most people want to buy an unlocked iPhone as opposed to one that’s carrier locked.
But I _like_ T-Mobile, mostly because their 5G network is *REAL* 3GPP NR 5G, not the weird 5G that AT&T and Verizon uses. And if you buy a phone unlocked directly from Apple, I believe you have to pay full price (which in my case would be US$1,099 for an iPhone 16 Plus 512 GB). Since I will pay off my phone on an accelerated schedule (like in under 6 months), I can have my phone unlocked by T-Mobile fairly soon.
You seemed to miss the point. You can do the same T-Mobile deal at the Apple Store. You can use the t-mobile financing and still have an unlocked phone.
@@goclips83I concur. Got a diagnosis on my water damaged iPhone 12 at Apple and Verizon. Best apple could do is give me a 450$ replacement or finance a new phone in full. Verizon was able to take my iPhone 12 and give me a free iPhone 15pro. No extra charges, just the same service rate as before. You just need to be very clear about additional charges or service changes up front. Ask 3 times to make sure, but in the end you may end up saving a lot more through Verizon.
Apple is an official Verizon reseller and they honor all the same deals Verizon offers, trade-ins directly the through Verizon, and activation, you don't know what you are talking about.
So FYI if you buy thru apple with financing they force you to activate it on a major carrier, and said carrier in my case Verizon will charge a upg fee. I got charged $35 from VZW even though I bought thru apple direct.
@@DannyBoyGhost did you buy outright or finance? because that was my point I did not get an option when financing also my phone is using an esim on Verizon currently
You forgot one for T-Mobile. If you are on an older plan and don’t want to upgrade plan costing $30 more a month, buy from Apple. Also, if you payoff your phone early, T-Mobile will also discontinue the monthly credits. So stupid for doing this!!!
@@Zukaarimoto Which they didn’t used to do during IP14! When I travel internationally, I can’t add a second eSIM until the phone is paid off. So I would call T-Mobile to pay off the phone before I go since they no longer temporarily unlock the phone for you. Now if I do, all my credits are gone.
Technically if you purchase any phone with T-Mobile as an “upgrade”, they charge a $35 fee. Even if you pay the phone in full or as an installment plan. So you’re saving $35.99 all together. I’m sure Verizon has their own fees as well.
AT&T doesn't have the upfront trade in credits when doing the installment plans like Verizon and T-Mobile. All of the credits are spread out over 36 months.
I was in to look at the iPhones at the Verizon store today and they started quoting me prices for plans and phones. They mentioned the cost of the iPhones to buy outright and they were close to $100 more than what you would pay if you were to buy your iPhone from Apple directly. I also learned while shopping around is that retailers like Verizon, Walmart and others won't sell you the latest model iPhone unless you have a plan. If you are on a prepaid plan like me, you won't be able to buy the iPhone 16 anywhere unless it's directly through Apple. Nobody but Apple is authorized to sell you an unlocked iPhone.
Having an unlocked iPhone was never a concern for me until I took a trip to Thailand and discovered that I could not buy a digital SIM card, which makes the phone incredibly cheap to use while navigating foreign countries, unless your phone is unlocked. So much better than jumping from WiFi connection to WiFi connection.
I’ve been buying from my Apple Store for years . I was with Verizon for awhile then bought the 11PM ,12PM ,13 PM Skipped the 14PM , bought the 15&16 ProMax all from the Apple Store and currently on Straight Talk for 8 years not one problem. Used the wife’s 13 PM towards the 16Pro Max and now waiting for Friday 9/20/24 😎 F the long term contract
That’s funny. I pay for mine in full on pre-order dates and when it arrives, I activate it, and chat with T-Mobile the same day. They unlock it right then and there. Don’t have to wait at all. And seems like some people have to wait til October to get their specific iPhones from Apple while carriers have them in stock. So I’ll stick to buying from my carrier.
I don't have an iPhone, but I bought my S24 Ultra from Samsung because my carrier only had the 512 GB version. There are no carrier specific apps that come pre-installed and get to keep my old plan.
You can also lease business phones through the Apple Business teams found at the Apple stores. Saves more money and you can have a solid upgrade plan: 1, 2,3, or 4 years.
I have a handful of foreign friends that tell me all the time how messed up the US is when it comes to how we handle cell phones. If you go to Europe or the Far East, just about everyone buys their phone directly from the manufacturer. Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo stores are everywhere. They're always unlocked, and then they can get the service from whatever company they choose. Why would you buy a phone 1 ) on monthly installments and 2 ) from the same company you get the service from? It's a conflict of interest. If you can't afford to buy the phone up front in cash, then you can't afford the phone. Here in the US we've just been conditioned from the beginning to go to the carrier for the phone and the service and that your monthly bill should include the device payment, plus the service payment. There's a better way folks!
Another point: Carrier financing has moved to 36 months as a standard now rather than 24 months. Lower monthly bills? Sure. BUT if you are someone who upgrades every year or every two years (iPhone batteries don’t last much longer than 2 in my experience), you will have a balloon payment at the 2 year mark to pay off and trade in your device. Depending on how your previous credits were applied (upfront vs monthly) this can be very steep. Pay less monthly for your plan instead, and finance your phone for 24 months.
T-Mobile still does 24 month payments. If they didn't, I wouldn't even consider a carrier deal from them. Where they have made the deal worse this year is by stating that if one pays off their phone ahead of time they lose the remaining monthly carrier deal payments.
But t mobile has a GO5G Next where you can upgrade every year when you pay off 50% of the phone. It literally tells you the date it should hit the 50% mark as well. So it’s still a good contract regardless.
What if you don’t mind being on a contract for 2 years if the service has been amazing and the phone is like $13 a month? I’ve been on T-Mobile for years and they offer me $13.25 a month to go from an paid off iPhone SE 3 to IPhone 15, compared to Apple which is $24.95 a month. Both for 2 years
With T-mobile, if you get a rep who knows what they are doing, you can also do the same. You have to have the rep add the instant trade in credit as a down payment. For example if they give you 260 upfront, the rep puts that 260 as a down-payment so you end up only financing the difference. This only works though in stores with phones they have in stocks. When ordering phone as "ship to" the only options are options for a bill credit or applying to an open financing agreement
This is literally a brain dead video. This is the same for anything phone related. Buying from manufacturers will always result in unlocked. Something you didn’t cover was AT&T does the same thing with locking your device however you didn’t talk about their “investigation” process in unlocking things even though with Verizon you pay off the phone it’s unlocked immediately. You will never get as good of a deal from somewhere like Verizon or T-Mobile. If you are enjoying your service then why would it matter? The only people that benefit from this I would say are people that don’t want a post pay plan. Also let’s not shit ourselves over that 99 cent savings 😂 Bro go home.
@@jbroadbelt6 Just using logic. Critiquing a video for it's lack of creativity and originality is not being a Karen. Throwing names and slurs is the Karen way. I am sure it was a hard journey but I am glad you found yourself.
What if you buy a phone from apple, but then choose on checkout T-mobile or Verizon? Is it locked then or are they just making sure they send you the right type of phone?
One New Zealand the carrier I use here in New Zealand has an add on you can get for $10 a month the add on is called One Upgrade and it allows you to upgrade to a new phone anytime after the first month but you might have to pay a fee between $99 to $299 New Zealand dollars. You have to trade in your current phone if you are still paying it off and they will cancel the interest free payment on your current phone then start a new one on the new phone. I have also been told that if you have paid off the current phone in full you do not have to trade it in.
The issue is if you don't buy an iPhone directly from T-Mobile, you'll miss out on the certain exclusive LTE/5G bands like the 600Mhz band 71 as an example. Plus the carrier lock will soon go away only having to wait for a month or 6 to have it carrier unlocked. The reason carriers put carrier locks is to minimize fraudulent claims against "lost/stolen" phones and ending up on sale when the device hasn't been paid off completely...
You have no idea what you’re talking about when I go to trade my current phone Verizon will give me three to $400 more for my trade than Apple will. You’re giving terrible advice.
Apple is also literally a Verizon reseller, they have the same seasonal deals as any Verizon store, including special extra trade-in value. Just because they don't have ugly marketing posters doesn't mean they aren't doing the same deals. Go to an Apple Store and ask if they will give you the same deal, they will, and they are less dickish because they don't make commissions.
Actually some of your information is a little inaccurate now per the new FCC phone unlocking rule all phones have to be unlocked after 60 days every carrier postpaid and prepaid
@@fragerhoskin3528 I just looked up Metro by T-mobile unlock policy at its 1 year from activation. That took me 60 seconds. Why share such nonsense that you completely made up?
You can do most of the things he mentioned in this video after the first 60 days on Verizon. If you’re considering switching providers, or traveling outside the US anytime soon it’d make a lot more sense to just wait to upgrade.
This is a mumbo jumbo bs 😂😂😂 trading your phone thru apple literally are $300 trade in credit for a iphone 13 pro while verizon is giving you $1000 trade in credit. Literally $2.77 for 36 months whch equals to $99.72 for the device in a 36 month period. Been with verizon for 20 years literally i ain't going no where.
But you are forced to choose their 100$ plan though, what if customers are paying for say a 50$ pre paid plan? Now you need to pay extra 50$ per month for a post paid plan that's how it is.
Yea it works out if you are on that ultimate plan. A lot of people are on the $55 plan. For me it would an extra $30/month. I always pay cash for my phone upfront but this year I considered the plan until I read the fine print.
You goof.. If your phone was locked to Verizon, you wouldn’t be able to use another carrier on the same phone. You just proved with your comment that your phone is unlocked. Verizon automatically unlocks phones after 60 days.
@@Podified-Verizon changed that policy awhile back. Your phone is automatically unlocked after 60 days even if it’s not paid off. Congratulations, you just learned your phone is now unlocked and you can leave verizon if you choose!

Another reason to add if you are military you can get 10% off through Apple, my iphone 16 pro was $899 through apple and paid in full. Also apple care for 2 years is 10% off at $179 as well.
Another thing to bear in mind is that if you already get a discount on your bill each month for bringing your own device, that discount goes away. So for example if you currently get a $14 discount each month from Verizon for using your own unlocked phone and then you decide to sign up for an upgrade, your bill may first go UP by $14 IN ADDITION TO any monthly payment for your share of the cost of the new phone. That’s a very bad deal in my opinion, unless you are just about to exhaust those credits as that discount does not last forever. Please correct me if I am wrong.
You note that 0:36 about phone locked to AT&T and Boost but under that it says it's T-Mobile and Verizon come unlocked but then you say almost immediately that they're locked.
If u trade in through Apple it was actually less of a credit, $400 I believe, t mobile and Verizon give $1000 in bill credits, but Apple still allowed me to get my $1000 credit going through them and the real benefit was that Apple didn’t require the down payment for my 1TB pro max like t mobile required.
This only benefits people who have all the money upfront . The people who don’t will more than likely use a credit card that will carry interest rates. But with carrier deals with no trade in you can pay for your phone over time interest free. By increasing your payments over time you lessen the amt of years you have to pay off the phone and it’s now yours unlocked . Basically a interest free loan
@@amorgladiador8856Yeah, but you may be given a lower credit limit than you might want at the start and it does come with higher APR than most other bank cards. I know this from friends and coworkers at my workplace who got one themselves. Also, you’ll need to have decent to good credit to finance with Apple anyway (from what I’ve heard).
All this info is correct, another things is that if you want to purchase your unlocked phone from a phone maker directly you can utilize other payment options as well. I can personally speak about Samsung being able to use alternative payment methods directly built into their website.

Rich people aren’t really rich like people think. They just finance the hell out of everything and have a bunch of payments to make. It’s also why the non-savvy rich person loses everything in a financial crisis like 2008.
You can finance through apple with 0 interest.
Lol
A lot of people really aren’t that smart! Or you can take the nicer, instant gratification route. lol

Phones also depreciate regardless of the storage capacity. An older 1tb phone might have a trade in value of $120. Pretty ridiculous if you ask me. Might as well sell the phone myself.

To your 3rd point… there may be tax savings when trading in via Apple. At least in my state, I do not pay tax on the ~$500 instant credit from my trade in. Saved me an additional ~$50
As someone who went through Verizon instead of Apple, none of the reasons listed here would sway me.

I think it depends on what phone plan you have tbh, because when I upgraded from iPhone 11 to iPhone 15, I didn’t owe anything extra
I will say another benefit just be coming from a technician standpoint if you ever forget your passcode and have to talk to Apple. If you bought it from them, they can just pull your receipt from there and it’s 10 times easier to get your account back and have them unlock your phone.

Umm…AT&T customers should also buy their IPhones directly from Apple for the same reasons.

They are offering the 1000 trade in, look in the details, 375 instant credit + $625 bill credits
@@handymangamer238please share link.
It's not false info. You get an immediate trade-in credit from Apple the remainder is subsidized by the carriers adding up to the $1000.
Both for 2 years
never fucking mind
Most people on AT&T or T-Mobile forget that you can just swap physical SIMs and not deal with your carrier at all apart from paying the bill
You have no idea what you’re talking about when I go to trade my current phone Verizon will give me three to $400 more for my trade than Apple will. You’re giving terrible advice.

You can get the Apple card and pay over time interest free also.
What do you mean by “if you buy it from Apple you get an unlocked phone”? In their website they make you choose a carrier when you are going through the process of buying it. Plz clarify and thank you for all the AWESOME research you do on our behalf.
Nonsense. I just checked. I had the option of buying “for any carrier” or “activating later”
He's talking about Pro iPhone. Apple forces you to activate your number if you bought the regular iPhone
@@MissionControlTet i literally just tried to pre order a 16 and a 16 pro and had the option of “connecting to any carrier.” I did right in the apple store app. Im in the US if that makes a difference.
@@iuyozx How about try it with 16 Pro alone?
@@MissionControlTet yep. I tried them individually. I bought my 15pro last year the same way.
Can someone tell me if you have two carriers on an unlocked iphone - can you still use the same number?
Does it work the same with AT&T?
Why didn’t you say this about AT&T, their contract keeps you SIM locked for the full 3 years! Taking that off is a nightmare! You have to wait a billing cycle to take it off, and having an international eSIM is no longer an option
i always buy from Apple unlocked its soo much easier to set up and its smooth process
What if you have a Verizon wireless Business account and have to order the phone from them using the business account? Thanks
