Exactly. She is a musician’s singer because she is a singer with a mind of a musician lol. She uses her voice like an instrument. She has jammed with some of the best there is.
Many of these female RnB singers were trained in churches when they were children, in the 50s, 60s and 70s. The result was that in the 80s we had women with powerful voices in American music. After so much training since they were kids, singing for them, ended up becoming like breathing, it became a natural thing for them. Today we, unfortunatelly, don't see it anymore.
