    Hello, my name is Tony and I work for Mini Mania and today we're going to film the video on installing the crankshaft and checking the inside. Okay. This is an A plus block. So you here by the webbing here on this side, it has the extra webbing and here is a non A plus block showing you no webbings on the sides as well on that side. Okay. That's way to identify A plus from a non eight plus motor. This specific a plus block is a 1275 engine. Okay.
    Today we're going to install our main bearings installed two lower ones. Third one, my hand, this is red line assembly lube is what we use to lube the bearings. I just use a little bit of this. These are my thrust washers. These are standard thrust washers. And I'm going to grease the backside of the thrust washer. One half of them install it here like that. The other half right here. Okay. Okay. My crankshaft been re grounded a machine shop which is recommended. I dropped my crankshaft in there. It's okay. Take my center main cap, all my bearing that all my thrust washers, little grease on each side brush washer here and as well there next, I'm going to stall my two bolts which have been wire wheeled to clean the threads up. Okay. I'm going to put some fashion or lubrication from ARP. So we get the proper torque a little bit of this on the thread running down. Okay. So much smoothly.
    Next, before I put my other two caps on, I'm going to put my dial indicator on here. Checked how much in play we have here. You're here with 0-0. Shut my dial indicator to zero. We see here. I saw my screwdriver here behind the cap and obviously we need oversized bearings, thrust washers here. Okay. So what I want to do 20 and we have 8000, we need to go to the next thrust washer size 3000 larger brush washers to reduce are in play in our Crankshaft, which we just checked was 8000 and hopefully we get it down to 2000s. Okay. Really? Let's put a on it trickle. Right. Sure. Over there we'll give her a little bit of prying here. Zero 2000. Perfect. Okay. You see that exactly where it should be 2000. Exactly. Okay. That's perfect. Get a little bit of lubricant on the threads. You get the proper torque check and make sure we drill, turn freely. Very nice, very nicely. I'm going to get the torque wrench and we're going to start talking down with the reground crankshaft in new bearings as you assemble it like I have it right here to check for a line board problem. You would start by torquing the center cap. 20 pounds. Let me shut my indicator 1 2nd here. 20 pounds. Okay. Torture center cap 20 pounds. Turn the crank shops, go to the next cap 20 pounds. Turn the crankshaft, everything's fine.
    So far, all good. So far if there was a line board problem as I tighten each one of these caps, this will get harder and harder to turn. The crankshaft would get harder and harder to turn if I have a problem with the line board. Okay. So I want to go to my next step and talk to £40 center. It's really strong. It's really still. He's all good so far. Turns nice and free you go up and doing three steps in the last step. Going to 65 pounds in the middle again. Nice and free. Next one, next one, nice and free. Send your block is perfectly good and does not need to be line board because everything is nice and free. Okay. We're done with this section.

    They are lubricated with assembly lube where they touch the crank journals.

    Good,but I always add a squirt of top quality oil in each oil gallery as I am going along.

    I have a problem in I have installed a 1275 crank into a 1275 block, had the crank measured and polished and was told it hadn’t been touched so installed standard thrust plates but there isn’t enough clearance hence if I try to start the car with the clutch in it doesn’t want to turn over very well. We ended up sticking 2nd hand thrust plated in to get some clearance. Why would this be and how do we remedy the situation

      It's imperative that the crank turn freely by hand once the thrusts are installed and the main caps are torqued to spec. What was the end float when you installed your crank?

  • @minimania
    @minimania  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    We go to .002 or .003 because that's factory spec. We understand that some engines will do just fine outside of those tolerances. The caps usually are re-checked but a plasti-guage or the like is only used when the crank is obviously too loose or too tight when spun by hand.

    I need an opinion, A 2000 mini1300 with 13500km(8,388miles) ,with a price of 16000€ ($20,926) is this reasonable or over price?

    My 1098 made 99.6HP @ Flywheel. I have run that for 6 years and it spins free to 7500 all day. Std rods and all. I had 8thou end float when it was built and havent had any probs. Why are you so worried about getting back to 2 thou end float when this motor only looks like a stocker?
    Do you go over your caps again after final tentioning?
    Did you check main bearing clearances with plastigauge or other for of clearance gauge?

    Never seen so many products used. That crank looks a bit tight too

      You don't put anything behind the thrust bearings. Set the crank in, then feed the upper in. Any reading with "grease" is false. No oil on the main cap bolt heads either.

      ImDusky No, loctite is used when assembling the block components.
