I'm from NIT. This is the true statistics of IIT and the same applies for NIT.
Then just think what would be the condition of other colleges. Even new IITs and NITs struggle bad for placements even having a brand name then just imagine what would be the condition of others.
One thing I would like to say that the average student might get screwed up in private colleges but the good ones get a good placement I've personally seen. So the conclusion is if u r a good student and landed in some other colleges other than IIT or NIT then this video is for you. Just don't get demotivated, keep trying, u will surely get what u want.
And those who without understanding start saying that thank God we are in so and so college and we don't regret to be in IIT or NIT just wait and watch. After your final year my comment will surely taunt you in your sleep ( provided if you have read it).

Was in Canada for 2years. Thanks for showing the reality to people. 45Lakhs in dollars is actually equivalent to 8Lakhs in India.
Also, all these years as an engineer, I thought of IIT as an impossible thing for masses and something elite. Yes, it is elite in terms of passion but regarding the fantasy dream of jobs and high packages, this video is an eye opener. Especially, can't ignore the fact that this is made by an IIT Alumni. Keep it up! Thanks.

This is true as this huge salary package is for working internationally in that country. This package is not being paid in India. I stayed in UK working for a bank and was being paid £60,000 +bonus which converts to 55-60 lakhs p.a. in India. However my salary in India was only 11lakhs p.a. as per the company. So it is a myth I agree and appreciate the eye opener video. As this huge package is not being paid when you work in India.

its the harsh truth. I work in Canada and taxes in Canada are similar or a little bit higher than the US, but if your making 70000$ that's pretty good starting income.people reach that after 3 -4 years of experience after bachelors in Canada. you can easily live a comfortable life and buy whatever you desired in India in a month. at the end of the day, it all depends upon you and your happiness. i am sure you will miss home!

I did my bachelor from private university. after passed out, I got call from IIT Kanpur for project assistance for a year. 8 students were called yet nobody came except me. as I reached there I was supposed to interview about propulsion systems but the arrogant professor asked only things he knew. he had a very cheap ego and insulted me like private college graduates are poor in academics. I came back to my home as there were few jobs for aero graduate. one month later, I got government scholarship from foreign university for my research and project. unfortunately, now um in a university where ranking wise ahead of IITs surrounded by some really good professors.

Similar condition in medical colleges. I am a graduate from king George medical University which is ranked at 2nd in india. Ego filled teachers bad behavior of staff n shortage of faculty. Its all flashy flashy from outside. But reality is quite different. Parents n general public think that once a person enters into a medical college, the guy becomes a god. This is the root cause of the ego ride of proffesors. They think they are some higher form of humanoids. They are neither student friendly nor do they teach practical stuff which is actually applicable in indian situation. Same story different faces.

really enlightening sir, all the parents should watch this video.
because this generation is being bombarded and crushed with parents expectations.
even though the child is happy with his/ her achievement, as he/ she knew the pratical issues.
today most parents quantify success in terms of salary package only.
most of them don't want their son/ daughter to do excel in subject, all they want is show off his Salary package to public as a token of success.
this is increasing the stress levels on our youth and this is the reason why our youth doesn't show interest in research.
parents must change then only society changes.
hope for the best to come.

Quite true, but there are also other ills plaguing the IITs due to the branding and hype. Even the general category students come in using strong memorising based training hence we get more Chaturs and hardly any Ranchos. IITs were truly good a few decades ago but the hyping has taken its toll on these marvellous institutions.

    (a) You are among India's most brilliant people which make you wanna improve yourself
    (b) You become more aware of the society and how things work (placements and other things, in private or other colleges , institute won't even care)
    (c) You can get better exposure to different fields which you wanna pursue)
    (d) If this is the condition of iit than think of other colleges

Very well presented. It's all the media hype and some common Indian public who don't know anything about US. To add on to what you mentioned, the work location of Facebook, Oracle, etc. will be mostly in Bay area where an annual package of $100, 000 is a kind of less as per the price index over there. Everything is costly in that area. House rent will be exorbitant, insurance, fuel, travel expense, food, grocery, clothes and all are much higher compared to lot of other states in US. So, savings will be effectively lesser. Only advantage I see with international offers is that the person gets onsite opportunity early. The numbers and hype around those packages make IITians look like they got offer from Kubera - the wealth God.

3:16 min: You are not right about stock options. Stock options of 62L are vested in 4 years. so 15.4L per year. So you will get it but 1/4 every year. Now you are also not very correct, when you talked about basic component. In India if package is 5L (40k/month), basic will will be something like 2L (15k/month). So would you say that anyone in India with 5L of package is only getting 15k. You would say No, because there are other components in that package. Similarly these are the components someone is actually getting, so you should not just ignore from your calculation. Plus, you simply ignored joining bonus, people usually stay with one company for 2-4 years. So you should count joining bonus per year. That's our newspapers fault that they are saying it as 1.42 crore. It should be 65 + 4 + 15 = 84L. Which is not a small amount by any means.

i am from an ordinary college..completed my btech in 2013. started with a salary of 3 lacs per annum(22k per month in hand) in Accenture Mumbai. currently have around 1 lacs in hand salary in pune Amdocs... switched from Accenture followed by Deloitte. All i know is that once you are in (the org) & if you have passion for the job, your salary doesn't matter then. You can get even more than what was shown here(45 lacs) and that too in India ....so be aware but don't be over influenced. Its better to have a technical degree than an ordinary one... who knows wher do you fit best!!!!

    2. Who want to boast of being an iitian , and
    3. When iits dreams to make you iitian .
Be a class ; just as Jack Ma said , " I dreamed of getting into Harvard but failed but now I got a degree from one of the best universities in Asia- Hong Kong university and the best thing is, I DIDNT EVEN HAVE TO ATTEND CLASS."

The breakdown of the foreign offer is slightly inaccurate. The Facebook offer in question is a $100k base $25k sign on and $100k stock grant that vests over 4 yrs. That means in year 1 you make ~$150k. In year 2-4, it's $125k.
That said, often you will get a promotion and the stock grant is not one time - you get refreshes every year.
Post tax (I would assume 40%), that's $90k. After a budget of $4k for living (which is reasonable for a single graduate), you are left with $42k savings or about 2.4 lakh per month. This is significantly higher than jobs in India. Using a simple Purchasing Power Parity conversion to make 45 Lakh in USD seem like 8 lakh in INR seems like an attempt to prove a point.

That's actual problem of our generation 90% students in IIT are having a dream of 1000k salary package but 10% of them are aiming for inventions ,friends try to spend your knowledge for doing something creative, innovative.
I am damn sure that if you would ask what matter more for an true engineer salary or his job then he will answer you that ' I love my job ,I feel proud be an engineer and want to innovate something which would make people's life easier'
