    I love seeing people wearing and moving around in their knits, so much easier to get a feel for the item than a photo.
    You should be proud!! What a collection. 💕💕💕

    Wow! I can't believe you made all that in a year. That's incredible! I love the variety of colors that you use in your projects, thank God you're not doing everything in neutrals. For that first sweater the Soldotna, definitely make it longer. It's stunning! It's worth the effort to make it something you love, and the added swing will make the fit similar to your Boxy sweater. I love your podcasts, keep them coming.

      And yes, I have come to terms with the fact that I need to work on the Soldotna. It will be worth it at the end to have a beautiful colorwork sweater. I’m going to add length to the body and the sleeves, both. Sigh. Not looking forward to it!

    At first, I wasn't going to watch this episode because I've been with you since the beginning, so I have seen all the things you have made. However, I really like the way you did this! I liked how you stood up so we could get the whole picture. Very nice. For socks I would cast on a high number to cast on and the ribbing then go down to a lower number for the leg and foot of the sock. Hope that helps.

    Hi Leena, first of all, I absolutely adore the Soldotna on you. You should wear that out. I bet you'd receive compliments. The shape and colors are so pretty. Also love the Ranunculus and hat! I made the short sleeved version using retrosaria in sport weight but would love to try Purl soho. As I mentioned before, you are getting me inspired to try making a shawl, Queen 👑 of shawls! ❤ Enjoyed every minute of this podcast and everything you made in 2023. 😊

    Leena, loved the 2023 round up! Your soldotna colors are just gorgeous!
    I had the same problem with socks and this year found the trick!! I now knit my socks with two strands of fingering weight yarn using a DK pattern (DK weight Vanilla Socks by the Crazy Sock Lady). I also sized down, I knit the smallest size (40 stitches) and then I stop knitting the foot and start the toe decreases at the base of my toe. It has made a world of a difference, no more floppy socks bunching up in my boots, they are snug and comfy now! I hope this helps!

    • @AnotherKnittingPod
      @AnotherKnittingPod  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is so helpful!!! She has a free DK vanilla sock pattern, as does Stephen West. I pulled out some fingering already wound up double, and I plan on giving it a shot. I hope it works as well for me as it did for you!!

    HI! As an avid sock knitter, I am IMPRESSED by that sock you knit - I have never knit a sock like that and don't think I ever will lol. Colorwork socks (in my opinion) are hard to fit. The best fitting sock would be a ribbed sock, but (also again in my opinion) they are never going to be like a compression style sock you would buy. If I am wrong about that I also want to hear tips and tricks haha! My socks fit well and you can get them to fit really well just by experimenting with your needle size and stitch count. I am a continental knitter but my knitting is not loose, it's on the tighter side so I usually use 1.5 or 2 US depending on the yarn. I am amazed by the progress you've made as a new knitter - it's astonishing! I love how you just jump into projects that you want to knit and just go for it - good for you!
    Happy Knitting!

      Hi Amy! Thank you for your kind words. 🥰
      I’m so glad you said that handknit socks don’t fit like store bought…I think since I’m so used to normal store bought socks, I’m having hard time seeing why everyone raves about knit ones! But, I’m determined to keep exploring.

  • @sewlivi
    @sewlivi 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Leena, I love everything you made this year. It all looks wonderfully you. 😄
    Recommendation with your socks - throw them in the dryer. I wash all of my hand knit socks in the washer and usually hang dry but sometimes I'm too lazy for that and just pop them in the dryer. I have noticed that the get a little snugger when I do that.

    • @AnotherKnittingPod
      @AnotherKnittingPod  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you Svannah!! I did as you said with the socks and that helped so much. The foot fits so much better. The only part that I wish were tighter still is the cuff. It was a folded cuff-do you think that made it heavier and so saggier?

    • @sewlivi
      @sewlivi 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AnotherKnittingPod I’m glad that it was able to help in the foot. With the cuff, I’m not sure why that didn’t tighten up as well. That’s definitely odd. Maybe add some thin elastic thread to the cast on edge.

  • @jenniferkesler7934
    @jenniferkesler7934 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Love these videos-never too late! For the Soltadna, maybe try popping some elastic thread in the collar and bottom hem. May fix it, and if it doesn’t, probably only took 10 mins to try!

    The gals at the Knitting Place made a Musselburgh hat with spin cycle on one side and fuwa fuwa on the other. It is SO cute. You could use linen quill, or sock yarn or whatever as your second colour and it would give the hat some structure. You could size it as you wish and wear it with the fluff on the inside or on the outside. I have a skein of fuwa fuwa that has been waiting for a project and I think I’m going to try this!
    And, about the socks…it does take some trial and error at the beginning to figure out your best sock numbers. I do a 56 st sock as I also have long and narrow feet. You can, of course, adjust the length as needed. Use stitch markers to count the rounds. Make it a bit shorter than you think you need. There are also non-super wash sock yarns out there (Mondim for example), or even an inexpensive commercial sock yarn (like Patons Kroy), will give you a sturdier sock.
    I really enjoyed your knitting round-up! Interesting to hear how your ideas progressed through the year of knitting.

    • @AnotherKnittingPod
      @AnotherKnittingPod  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is such a great idea!! Seriously, what a genius way to make it work. I was also contemplating using it for the Tessellated pullover or vest. Looks like a fun and unique pattern that uses Fuwa Fuwa.

    Awww I love seeing all your knits. I made 5 Ranunculos it’s a great pattern and just with a different hand it changes the look. Sock are tricky. Try different patterns for heels you will find one that fits and with practice you can adapt the pattern or count to your feet. Belen Fernandez and Earth tones Girl have good pattens also Summer Lee. Don’t give up socks are sooooo much fun and easy to finish 🧦 ❤ 🧶 hand knit socks are the best

    I enjoyed your take on showing everything you knit in a year. Lots of beautiful finished projects. For your socks, try machine drying them in a lingerie bag on a low heat seating and taken them out before they are complete dry but have snapped back from the stretched state. As for making future socks, measure your gauge on the painting brick socks. You made need to use thicker yarn, a fingering weight with 400 yards per 100 grams or less or a sport weight, to get a denser fabric. It sounds like you might also need different stitch counts for the different sections of the sock to accommodate differences between you foot, ankle, and leg measurements.

    • @AnotherKnittingPod
      @AnotherKnittingPod  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Throwing the socks in the dryer helped so much! Only the cuff at the top is still too loose, but I still really enjoy wearing them. Next pair I’m going to try holding fingering weight double. Let’s hope that works better!

    Beautiful work and beautiful episode Leena. Those shawls are stunning- all of them! A suggestion on socks (since you asked) - you might already know this, but I didn’t know it for awhile- to determine the number of stitches to cast on, measure the circumference of the ball of your foot - not the length. For example 7” cast on 56, 8” cast on 60, and so on. Those aren’t the real numbers- just an example. It will be fun to see where your heart leads your knitting this year Leena! Be well and knit on.🧶❤️

      @AnotherKnittingPod  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Beth! Yes, I actually did that for those Stephen West socks. Unfortunately still too loose. However I did throw the in the dryer and the foot fits much better! The cuff isn’t as tight as I’d like though, and I wonder if it has something to do with the folded cuff. Maybe the weight of it? Who knows, but next time I’ll try without.

    Loved watching your recap and now inspired to add some Stephen West socks to my sock-wish-list. As someone else seems to have commented, it seems like you could try to decrease before the ribbing on your Soldotna so that you could have a more cinched waist ribbing... I am picturing that knit looking really cool if you wore it layered over button down shirts, like crisp white, or your beloved mustard, or even banker stripe blue to give tailored notes to contrast with the sweetness of it.

    Try the “twice sheared sheep” magic no gauge sock pattern. Start with toe up so you can see your gauge. There are 00 and 000 needles. My husband is a size 14 but narrow feet so choosing the large size doesn’t work, you have to go with your foot measurements and negative ease. Remember sock yarns aren’t all the same so sometimes you can use a 1 but other times have to go smaller. For a quick trial do a DK sock

    Hi, I've knit over a hundred pairs of socks... My first pair came out horribly too. It took a few tries before I got it right. I'm a tight knitter, so I don't have the same issue as you. I went up a needle size, but I don't knit the average 64 stitch sock. I knit with 60 or 56 stitches because I have a very narrow foot, too.

    Love all your projects and was adding to MY Ravelry queue as you went! lol. I just finished the Zuzu's Petals cowl (not a fan...) and going to start swatching for my first sweater-Petite Knits Novice- tonight. Also about to start the painting bricks blanket by Stephen West which means.....I won't be a monogamous knitter anymore! UGH! I actually hate that! BUT.....other than the main color, all the contrasting colors will be left overs from other projects as it grows so there will be periods where it's just sitting. And I'm making the large size so it will be a long-term project. Love your Golden Hour shawl. Do you (or anybody else reading this) have a good bobble tutorial you love? I just haven't found a good one. Although...I've only done them one time.
