I’m a new subscriber and so happy to have found you. Your shawl is BEAUTIFUL. As a 61 yr old I can tell you time does seem to speed up as we age - so enjoy every minute of your sons time at home with you. They’re gone from home too soon! And I LOVED the Midnight Library and very interested in watching Eric because I too love the crime/mystery shows. If you like Midnight Library a few others you may enjoy (not the same but also thought provoking without being a serious read) are Someone Else’s Shoes, Little Paris Bookshop and One Italian Summer. Those are my all time favs in addition to Midnight Library. Happy reading and knitting! 😊
Hi Stephanie! Thank you for being here! I finished Midnight Library yesterday and it was such an incredible ending. I’m going to look into the books you recommended! Thank you for that! I love nothing more than book recs, and just generally knitters who love books! Those are my people 🥰 I am trying to live in the present of each moment with my kids while they are still living under my roof. But the specter of the “someday” they will leave is a shadow over my joy. I suppose that is the biggest challenge of motherhood. Loving them so intensely and then having to let them go.
Leena, I am so bad at leaving comments but need to get better at letting you know how much I enjoy your pod! I started following when you started and I have watched everyone of them pretty much same day you post. Love all your beautiful knits, have “read” many of your book recommendations and enjoy your life updates ❤. I also just started spinning less than a month ago…..I can’t stop 😂. Really looking forward to your spinning updates!
What a kind and touching comment!! Thank you so much for leaving this one, you have no idea how much it means to me. I put the pods out into the world, and you never really know if you connect with anyone. Happy reading, knitting, and spinning! Be with you again soon! 🩷
Wonderful shawl way to go 🎉 And extra points for your stach busting which you have been really trying to do in the past months and which is so hard to do when you have bits of a lot of stuff! I just adore how you speak about your son. It really hit me because I relate so much. Have a great week and thanks for sharing ❤
Thank you! I never understood the stereotypical bond between mother and son until I developed one of my own! There is something about those boys…we are the lucky ones 🩷
I just loved seeing you be so excited about your new sock knitting adventure. I totally understand your comment about sock knitters being passionate about their projects. I caught the bug too, and I just can't stop thinking about all the possible variations I can create.
Hi Sharon! Yes I can officially say I understand the passion of sock knitters. It’s like a little mystery to figure out how all the pieces will work best for you. My second sock is flying by!
Oh my gosh! I’m so glad that the heel feels good and fits you well! Denise (earthtones girl) is just the most extraordinary person and teacher. I’m so glad the pattern served you well. Your sock is going to be amazing. It takes a few pairs to really figure it all out- summer Lee always says the best way to get better at it is by knitting socks and especially vanilla socks. Your shawl is beautiful, such a work of art and I hope you wear it and enjoy your trip to the mountains (and that you don’t get a concussion this time!!!!) ❤ And happy happy birthday Kush!!!! Time is a high speed train and lately I feel like I am hanging on for dear life.
Hi Kaetlyn!! Seriously today I was doing the heel of hte second sock and I have it pretty much memorized. Which is a dream, because I want to be able to knit a whole sock without a pattern. Thank you again for your thoughtfulness 🩷 Time is indeed a speed train. Sometimes I’m ok with it, and other times I struggle with how fast they have grown up. Right now, I’m struggling. Oh well! We’ll all be ok!
@@AnotherKnittingPod im struggling today too. Last day of elementary school. I cried she cried and now we have crumbl cookies so we will eat our feelings 😂 I love that heel because of how easy it is to memorize. That was my socks are totally mindless although I still need the Kitchener reminders now matter how many times I do that!
Happy Birthday to your son! ❤That shawl is so inspiring 😍 .. I really need to knit my first Steven West shawl ASAP. And YAY for you becoming a sock knitter 👌Have a lovely weekend! 💐
Welcome to the Sock side!! I love the shadow wrap heel from Earth Tones GIrl it is the best short row heel and I have tried a couple. Socks are my small project I knit at my desk, in the car and waiting in line so they are fun to just have around. If you are a loose knitter I would agree going down to a 0 or 00 might help.
Awww! My son just turned 15 this month too and you put into words what I am feeling. Happy birthday to him and happy birth day to you!!! Xx (fab shawl and sock!!!)
Thank you thank you! You should definitely cast one on. It’s the perfect shawl that’s not too easy/boring and not too hard. And the end result is just magical ✨ Stephen West is just brilliant 💚
Happy born day to son and you. I would like to suggest the after thought heel like doing your sleeves. Except instead of me using scrap yarn I use my 16” cable to hold the stitches and put the end caps on so I don’t loose the stitches. It’s easier to come back and add the needle tips from my interchangeable set. I also have a Chiagoo set. I’ve ordered the mini tips and shorties from Amazon and it comes with very short cables too. It cost me $20 plus tax which is great. Shadow wrap heel is next for me to try also. I am knitting a pair now self striping Urth, it’s sooo splitty. But I’m using two needles to knit the socks and next to flexi flips I’m loving it. Be well.
Thank you! And that’s a lovely way to think of it-the afterthought heel is like the sleeve. I think I find it intimidating. I would have to really sit down and figure it out with some videos. Also-dying to try flexi flips!
Happy Birthday to your boy!! I think you never need to bother with straightening your hair again if you don’t want to. I finished my SW painting bricks shawl and …OMG..it was huge and vast and fun and sprawling. I totally substituted my muted tones instead of bright color and I like it. Your shawl si really great. I so want to be a sock knitter…how can the block be busted through? Maybe there are too many heels for me?
Thank you for saying that! In the summer I feel like I straighten it more because its easier to wear hats with straight hair than curly hair. And hats are a must here in Boulder’s sun! Yay for finishing the Painting Bricks! I LOVE that shawl-it reminds me of stained-glass. I gave mine to my mom, so I’m happy to have this bubbles and brioche to replace it. I really think you should pick a heel and just try a vanilla sock. The Soxploration Sock by Earthtones Girl has been what pushed me over the hump. Every step has video tutorials. After the first shadow wrap heel, I’ve already got it memorized. Very intuitive.
Love your shawl! Don't forget that your socks should always have negative ease (maybe except the slouch socks). I use Susan B. Anderson's "How I Knit my Socks". It's free and step by step.
hi Lina - you made a shawl that you showed a while back that I can't find :( - one of the colours you used was oak for the border - thats really all I can remember - hoping you might remember ? it was so beautiful
Hmmm…I don’t remember the episode, but I started that shawl Mothers Day of last year…so it will be an episode or two from May 2023. It was Six and Seven Fibers, in their alfalfa base. The colorways were Morning Light, First Kiss, and Oak, if I remember correctly! It was sold as a kit at my LYS but was just perfect for that shawl! It’s the best base because it has 10% cashmere and you can really feel the luxury in the fiber. Hope that helps!
Leena! your. shawl. is. gorgeous! so beautiful! what a work of art. Love yours sock too and that you are starting to like to knit them - I’ve mentioned this before but would love to know if you’ve checked out this website yet - TH-cam won’t let me link it here but it’s artistic yarn by Abi - fun sock yarn, i.e., Dunkin’ Donuts, box of chocolates, etc. …also hope you’re booking your tickets for Rhinebeck wink wink 😊
Ah!! The yarn by Abi is so stunning!! I’m fascinated by self-striping yarn. I might have to get some at some point soon! Looks so fun to work with but also easy. Oh Rhinebeck!! It’s tempting!! I’ll have to give it a think and see if I can make it work.
I don’t care for the afterthought when i’m done i want to be done. My first preferred method is shadow wrap, the fleegle heel if its toe up, then heel flap gusset. But yes Earthtones girl has awesome videos for heels so does Crazy Sock Lady..
@@AnotherKnittingPod try the DRK I tested both the fingering version and the bear paw the ribbing is forgiving and snugs the foot and leg. You just have to enjoy all over ribbing but go for it 👌🏾

Gorgeous colorful shawl!! I recently watched Eric and enjoyed it as well. Defending Jacob is another good one.
I’m glad you liked Eric-it stayed with me. I will add Defending Jacob to my list!

Happy birthday to all these sweet boys! I never thought 15 year olds could be so delightful. All anyone ever does is complain about teenagers!
Pausing after 3mins to say, your Bubbles and Brioche is so gorgeous! It really inspires me to cast one on myself!

Yes ma’am I knew it. I told ya you’d love it. The other bubble shawl is in my to do list.
Thank you!! Happy summer knitting to you!
You are so good at choosing colors for your fabulous West knits!
Oh thank you! When I doubt I just pick all the colors!! 😂

I love the colors of your shawl. So beautiful and joyful
Thank you so much! That’s why I love it as well. Just seeing it as I walk by gives me a little jolt of happiness 🌈
Gorgeous shawl! Wow the colors are so beautiful and perfect! Happy birthday to your son we share the same day! Blessings
Happy belated Birthday to you as well!! It’s a sparkly day. 🥳
Such a sweet tribute to your son. My baby is 22 now and boy did time fly!
Thank you!! And its already flying…why does time go so fast when you want to slow it down?? When they are little it is so hard and goes so slow.

Yes me too. It has a good amount of depth and really wraps around the heel. I’m a big fan of both the construction and the end result!
