The Pattern Scout bomber is a great pattern. Very versatile and I can highly recommend it recommend it. I think it could be relatively easily hacked to the majority of the outerwear you are talking about. Helen x
Thanks so much for keeping me up to date with the trends, I never go shopping anymore 😂 I am making a gilet at the moment and am thrilled to be accidentally on trend! I’ve just used an Ottobre pattern for a jacket and left off the sleeves.
Hy Sally you inspired me to make the Heather dress and IV got some Pontypridd Roma in flora front and back and plain navy sleaves and side panels and just about ready to start it 🥰🥰🥰
I am knitting my second All Year Round Knitted Vest (Hobbycraft pattern) in an aran wool blend as I was very pleased with the first one I finished. However … I have been diverted by some lovely fluffy Drops Air in a grey colour to knit a hat (My baker’s hat by Emily Russell free on Ravelry). I would love a sew along for the Archer shirt.
Love all your Autumn sewing & knitting plans, Sally. I'm in the same boat with my sewing mojo, thanks to the rubbish summer we had this year. I have a few unworn dresses and a pair of shorts that never got finished because I knew I wouldn't be able to wear them. It really felt like I wasted all my sewing time making stuff I couldn't wear. I'm currently making that New Look bomber in a medium weight twill. I'm sure I won't get to wear that until spring now either as the weather is so wet and cold!
Hi Sally. I’ve made the SOI Amelia jacket before in a fine cord and it’s super cute. This winter I have resolved to make up as many of the G&G kits as i can. I’m ashamed to say I have far too many I just haven’t got round to doing yet. So no more buying for me until I have cracked some of those! Diana
Thank you for sharing your Autumn makes video Sally. ❤ I also love your MM cardigan, the colour is awesome! A sew along sounds lovely….The Avid Seamstress Blazer would be great! 🙏🏻 😊 (currently planning garments for Summer).
I was going to say that the amount of fabric is always for the largest possible size on any pattern and I never go by what they say. I buy the pattern and cut out the pieces and set them out on a bit of fabric to use the least amount and then buy the amount I need. I am sure you have bought too much in the past too 🤣 Love your plans and I hope to make some sort of jacket this autumn and need a few heavier dresses for work along with a gilet as I am always cold 🥶 I knit a slipover and promptly gave it away as I didn’t like it but must try another one. I like a v neckline. if you are doing a sew along do the Archer please ❤
That’s such a good idea and not a method I’d thought to use before! I have bought too much in the past but I’m also guilty of thinking I can get something that requires 3 metres out of a 2 metre remnant and being disappointed haha x
Great plans! It's interesting that I have a few of the same types of pieces on my list. I am planning to make a bomber jacket with the New Look pattern. I had considered using a satin or charmeuse, but like your idea of wool, too. I'd also like to make a button-down shirt (one fitted and another that's slightly boxy), and then crochet a vest. (I had never heard the word gilet before this video. 😊 I am enjoying learning new terminology for some garments). Your blazer is lovely. I would like to make one for myself and my husband, as well. Have a wonderful week! I look forward to seeing your next project.
Great ideas Sally. I made the SOI Amelia jacket a few years ago and I love it and found the pattern really easy to follow, but found it is very very cropped (and I'm only 5'3"!) So ended up lengthening it a bit. I also added welt pockets because for me a jacket without any pockets is really annoying!
A I will definitely have to lengthen it a bit then I don't want it too short! I'm impressed that you added welt pockets of your own accord - I hate them! haha x
I've made several Archer shirts (size 8) and never needed more than 2 metres of 55" wide even though I have to lengthen as it is drafted for 5'5" and I am 5'8". That also includes pattern matching for checks or stripes. It is now my go-to shirt.
In a vest geek. Quilted, non quilted, woven, knit, lined, unlined, fleece. Zipper, snaps, buttons. You name it. It's the first section I beeline to in a thrift store. I have no idea why.... But I have tooooo many for sure. I've actually got four in my winter plans. Both views of the Acorn by Love notions. made this pattern a few times. There's also a child version that I'm making for gkids for xmas. And a mens. Had plans for the Wildwood from Helen's closet for awhile. I've got a very wierd piece of quilted fabric that needs to be made into this. I've snagged a few quilted thrifted ones that I've removed the sleeves, added zippers to the sleeve and opening thereby can be worn as jacket or vest. This was very easy to do. The plan for the Wildwood is to sew it up with zippered sleeves. The only thing keeping it on the "to-do", list.... Is all the binding involved. Gahhhh Im leaning towards sewing it up with exposed seams on the outside, for something different. It's for my adult daughter and she's not very open to weird like I am bahaha
The Archer is a great pattern though the one thing I’d be aware of is the sleeve placket. I did mine according to the instructions but it frayed and I had to patch it. I’d go back to a ‘traditional’ style tower placket which seems a much sturdier construction. 😊 Helen x
some really lovely plans. The new craft house have a free gilet pattern should the shacket bodice be a bit too oversized. I love the kaia coatigan , which is actually a knit blazer, just makes it a bit more casual and cross between a cardigan and a blazer, I want one in every colour. My favourite ones I have made were in boucle from Poun d fabrics, the texture looked really good, and is super comfortable
I have plans to make the Allie Olson Monarch Jacket (bomber) in a red ponte. Really nice. Also, I am trying to figure out which pattern to make a jacket from pre-quilted fabric I have. I was thinking maybe the Ilford Jacket. I have made four Heather blazers to date: navy blue, black and white herringbone, beige linen, and magenta houndstooth! I shortened the pattern to sit at bottom of hips and really like the casual yet smart style. I would love to knit but can’t seem to get past the casting on phase - too tight. 😳 Happy sewing…
I've made the sewoverit Amelia 3 times, i really like it. The lining works well and it's not hard. It is super cropped. I think sewoverit have just updated the pattern and instructions to their new style
@@SecretLifeOfASeamstress I'm 6ft so a bit different to you i think! I have added length to make it sit on my waist or just below, i think i added 3-4 inches but i have a very long body. Just check the back of neck measurement. Also you use an exposed zip and I've never been good at altering them so I've ended up making the length match the zip that i ended up with
Super video and great plans. I love your Whitmoor cardigan. Wish I could knit! I’m planning a cord skirt and also the Nina Lee Carnaby dress as a pinafore (without the pockets) also in corduroy. Have you seen any nice cord. Higgs and Higgs and Sherwood fabrics have some but I don’t know what it is like. I think cord fabric has to be good quality. What do you think?
I haven't seen any so far, I'm off to the Knitting & Stitching show this week so I'm going with a list. Higgs and Higgs are usually there so I'll be able to check the quality haha. I'll let you know x
@@SecretLifeOfASeamstress Thank you. I have never knitted a garment before- I have knitted a few scarves-is this sweater pattern beginner friendly for someone with my skills? I have done several different types of stitches when making scarves.
I have made two patterns from Atelier Scammit. They are both pants patterns, and they fit me better than any pants pattern I have ever made! I feel like her prices are very reasonable as well. You also get 10% off code if you leave a review.
Your plans are very interesting. I am moving into Spring/Summer. My plans are to do a few summer dresses. 1 from Vogue with an American cotton my sister gave me. 1 from Simplicity in a gingham check linen I got on sale. But I am very interested in Jacket making as my puffer jacket sort of went Kaput in winter. So I am interested in the Ilford or the bomber. What types of fabric do you think you will use?
I think I will use a wool blend or wool for both. The Ilford possibly a boiled wool although they can be quite pricey. Probably some sort of blend for the bomber x
A really great video Sally, thank you. I have made the Cozi jacket twice, it is a great pattern. I have also made the Tamarack Jacket in a quilted fabric which is self lined with sherpa, very cozy. I know you have made a few Whitmoor Cardigans Sally and very lovely they are too. I am currently making the jumper form. I amhavibg a real problem with the sizing. The brackets on the size section don't seem to match up with sizing on the written instructions? Any advice would be very gratefully received. Many thanks.
Your Tamarack Jacket sounds super cosy! Ooh I'm not sure about that, I've never knit the sweater version and I've not encountered any problem with the cardigan. Maybe message Ami on Instagram or email her I'm sure she'll be able to help x
If you adapt a pattern with sleeves to make a gilet just remember the armscye is cut differently depending on whether there is a sleeve inserted or not so you may need to adjust the armscye.
That cardigan is stunning!
I was just about to comment the same thing, it's gorgeous!
Thank you so much xx
The sweater you're wearing is gorgeous and such a pretty color for you! Enjoyed this video!

I’ve made several archer shirts and never used more than one and a half metres and I’m the same size as you. It’s a fabulous pattern.
Thank you that’s interesting it did seem like a lot of fabric! Hopefully I’ll be ok with my two metres x
That cardigan you knit looks stunning, the colour really suits you.
