- Christiania is a former military base that sat abandoned for many years before becoming the neighborhood we know today. Its Pusher Street is famous for its open trade of cannabis, which is illegal in Denmark. Christiania operates under a pseudo-anarchist consensus democracy. Meetings are held in order to discuss and decide on items such as the community's overall finances, revenue, and expenditure, as well as business and construction. In 1971, a group of hippies broke down the barricades and began squatting there. Nowadays, approximately 900 people live in the area, comprising a community that has its own rules and regulations completely independent of the Danish government. During its relatively short history, Freetown Christiania has faced a certain amount of turmoil. This is mainly due to the cannabis trade taking place in its famous “Green Light District.” At one time, police officers regularly invaded the neighborhood, occasionally arresting dealers.
There are three rules in the green light district: have fun; don’t run-it causes panic; no photos-buying and selling hash is still illegal.” Taking photos at the Green Light District is now allowed.

They do pay taxes. They do consider themselves as part of Denmark. It is not considered the most dangerous place in Denmark.
I’ve been lucky enough to visit many times. I tell people going to Copenhagen to go and not watch the TH-cam videos on it because it’s all ridiculous clickbait nonsense. Not only is it not dangerous it’s very safe. I tell people not to judge it on the graffiti everywhere and just walk in. Ive spent many nights there till 3am by myself and always felt completely safe. It’s a beautiful and special community. Can’t wait to be back later this year.

Brother I just got this video on my for you page and I live there and. just about all the shit she said in the start was completely wrong we do consider ourselves a part of Denmark and the European Union and we pay taxes to the Danish governmen. our land is paid of yearly. and yes it is true there has been shootings. it has happened but it's not common it's do to gang Warfare on Pusher Street. where the drugs. are sold however that's only cannabis and all hard drugs we kicked out. we are a hippie commune not a anarchist state lol😂😂😂

Well, they do pay taxes, just like everyone else... and the communal bathroom was not the one you presented. Sorry for pointing this out, as it was a very nice walk around Christiania you showed. Thank you... -and there is no danger in being there after dark, you might be 'harassed' by some poor drunkard souls, as in every place on earth, but not dangerous 🙂 But it can be intimidating when you are in an unfamiliar place.

This is a very cool place, there must be something you have misunderstood. They do Pay taxes and they do follow the rules in Denmark. But there are issues with hash and marihuana sales which is done in pusherstreet, a very small place of Christiana. So you are very wrong. Its a Beautyful place visited by many tourists every year.

Pretty bad titel, its as safe at night, as it is during the day as long as you follow some pretty basic rules when you are at pusher street. Never had a problem and sometimes people are even more friendly at night even plus you get even more for your money because someone who's working night shift has been smokin all day will be there! And no you dont have to be brave to be there, there are kids running around even in pusher street. gunshots are also not normal, for 2 years now theres been 2 shootings thats 2 shootings out of 730 days able to be there and it used to only be once every fifth or tenth year. dont spread misinformation! (ive been there a lot since i was 14 so back from 2013) There is also a fourth rule, you cant yell cops (or cheese, 12 and whatever slang we use) if they arent coming in to clean the street. if you do they will beat you to a pulp.

This place to be honest didn’t seem to be so dangerous as you was portraying it. Yeah a colourful neighbourhood but not that dangerous vgly as you was trying to paint it. The people around seems to be friendly and just minding their business. Also some road seem to be deteriorated but in the complex the neighbourhood seems to be well maintained and clean.

A lot of misinformation in this video. It's not considered the most dangerous place. It's generally not dangerous at all. They also do pay taxes. They are part of the society just the same as everybody else. Whether you work or are on social welfare, taxes are automatically deducted in Denmark.
It IS indeed considered the most dangerous place in Denmark, backed up by hard facts and statistics, and it is a very unfortunate consequence of the criminalization of cannabis and the brutal implementation of the anti cannabis laws. For the general visitor Christiania is not so dangerous, though. Stay away from the police when they come running, and duck fast if you here gun shots is my advice. Not joking!@@peterwhitey4992

Residents of Christiania are required to pay taxes in accordance with the laws and regulations set forth by the Danish government. Christiania is not a separate sovereign entity or recognized as an independent state. It is still part of Denmark and subject to Danish law.

There are a lot of untruths in this video unfortunately that are based on common and popular misunderstandings among tourists and new arrivals. The people who live here very much DO pay taxes. And because they pay taxes in Denmark they pay more taxes than most people anywhere in the world.

Before Pusher St had 'street' lights at night I sat on a bench just on Pusher St at the back wall of Woodstock. This was 2016, not long after a police officer was shot. It was totally dark. A number of people came and sat on the bench and we talked about various things. One was a Scouse contractor working on the power station and then one or two locals. I felt no danger or threat, couldn't even see the people I was talking with. This is not something I would ever do anywhere else. In 2011 the dealers in Pusher St let us shoot some video there, the only condition being that they were warned and one of them could look through the viewfinder of my camera. A polite request and a courteous attitude was all that was needed. I have been in Christiania in the middle of the night and never felt any threat or danger.

With Dee Mongo and Marwa thee is no history or factual information , all you get is beautiful , lovely ,and expose her body , you learn nothing but see the buildings , and beautiful sites , but Nothing Learning . It is safe at night. There are several (good) restaurants. Especially vegan/vegetarian and all organic. I don't know why they were warned to leave. Just don't visit "pusher street" just because you are nosy.

Clearly not dangerous as you portray. Visit Chicago, Cape Town flats, Rio deJenairo favelas etc if you want to see a dangerous place. The first sign is hoodlums and loafers starring at you. Nobody is starring at you even though you are the only black in Christiania. A sign of a peaceful, free and welcoming community with each minding their own business. Although I can tell by the graffiti on the buildings that this is hippie town. Hippies are not aggressive, the mood is drugged down and laid back.
This is very inaccurate. Christiania is very safe. It may resemble areas that are typically unsafe but it is not at all dangerous. People there are very welcoming and kind. I’ve stayed out there as a foreigner all night many times by myself and never felt unsafe. It’s anything but lawless they have many reasonable and respected rules against drugs and violence. No one was going to hurt you for filming they’ll only tell you to stop. They also do pay for the land which is why they have businesses open to the public
