Thank you for taking the time to do this tutorial. We greatly appreciate it. I have a first gen 2.5 and thankfully haven’t had an issues, but if/when I do I’ll rewatch this again.
Robinson Racing Products used to make an all steel gear set last I knew.. but shame it’s a forward only kit 😢!! My T-Maxx is from June 22 2005 and I just busted my transmission... spur gear turns only so far then catches bad and same thing when spun in opposite direction... I think I broke that pin or something as the little black shaft out other side of trans I cannot turn it at all (it’s supposed to spin freely in only one direction)... you know I’d you can get that pin in a hardened steel? I have a trx 3.3 engine in my max and it was screaming great.. but I got next to a tree, and reversed from a dead stop and got on it a little too hard I guess and it went in reverse but I heard it sound like it went thru crunching leaves, went over to clean it and shift to forward same sound maybe bit quieter... I had this since new June 22 2005 and had no trouble but original silver head 2.5 engine was too temperamental since a 2.5 isn’t an ideal engine for a big monster truck (2.5r is slightly better maybe), and the 3.3 with resonator pipe, and a 3 stage hi flow oiled foam air filter is perfect really... shame Traxxas didn’t tell me that this pin could snap due to a 3.3 engine...
Yeah it absolutely sucks the transmissions aren't very good I'm not a huge fan of their products to begin with since all they do is build the same thing for 20 years and Sue everybody and don't upgrade any of there platforms the 2.5 and 2.5R Is a funny situation because they are both identical in every way shape and form other than a blue cylinder had you pay another $80 for absolutely no performance gains I another rip off from them Now with that pin that snaps inside the transmission all the time sometimes you can find a role pin to put through their which is a lot stronger and won't break or get creative
hey does anyone know if you can use the output shaft from the 2.5 transmission and put it in the 3.3 transmission so you can still use the same center drive shafts and break disk. any help would be appreciated.
My transmission is good but the only issue is reverse for some reason if I switch to reverse while it’s running it just gets out of gear but if I have the engine off then start it in reverse it will work but then if I want to go back in drive it will get out of gear so I would have to turn the engine off again then have it in drive. Help if possible
You have to make sure your shift rod is adjusted properly. That it pulls the shift all the way forward and pushes all the way back that's really all I can tell you
im surprised that these nitros use plastic gears all my brushless need metal and even the metal ones break, expected these engines to be harder on the drivetrain
Hey I got I real problem with mine the spur gear I spin it as fast as I can with my hand but the out put shafts where the drive shafts get attached to don't spin at all I spun the spur gear both ways and nothing
@@martiesrcsstore4049 🤣🤣🤣🤣 well I do have a rc group on Facebook nitro/diesel/gas rc and more if you want to check it out just 2 questions to answer and that's it
Mine just won't engage the one way is working and the pins are fine same with the catches it just won't engage its spinning the right way as well can't find out what's wrong.
It's normal to be able to spin the spur gear with your fingers in the truck not move they have an internal kind of clutch inside of them they have to get up to a certain rpm for them to engage
Not a Traxxas guy by any means but where I live the ones you're taking about are 800 to 1000$ here i run what i got until it's no longer able to be fixed then i pick up another used model i can get parts for and run that last new rc i bought was 2010 lol ps i run lots of rc10gts as well
@@thebug4046 yes they are high but so are traxxas. 900 for a xmaxx the emaxx is expensive as well. Sometimes I have found its better to buy new then restore a old one. I have a rc10t that I have more in then my sc6.1 lol
@@jeffbryner5355 my tmaxx is actually from 2004 I had a lot of other stuff like losi lst hpi Savage etc. and a bunch of others sadly I lost most of my stuff in a fire but at at the end of the day as long as I can go bashing I could care less as long as I'm having fun also I don't burn nitro I run 0% nitro homemade because fuel is 60 to 80$ a gallon in my area and I can tell you right now I'm not paying 80$ for a gallon of Traxxas garbage

Glad it helped ya
I can remember drilling that hole out and using a larger pin from the driveshaft and never had a problem with breakage again.
You are right! I actually did that on mine not long ago
Just 2 try help you can blow compressed air over spur gear with blow nozzle, test all funtions and shift points 2 speed reverse just blow other way.
Yup! That works
Love your videos, random question what brand of Torx Drivers do you use? I am in the market for a new quality set.
Thanks for watchin! And the Screwdrivers in the video are old sport werks Hex. as far as torx bits go I use JET

That pin is called a threaded axle or shaft cross pin.
Hey man I got the new pin and some new gears on the way my transmission let go again unfortunately but thanks for the input

Adjust the F/R shift points
screw pin part number TRA4995 assembly 3x12mm
What do people mean when they say you have to adjust the transmission
Shift points

No idea

It's traxxas they cheap out everywhere they possibly can
Electronic motors have higher torque so it needs metal gears otherwise it'll rip the plastic to shreds.
Hey I got I real problem with mine the spur gear I spin it as fast as I can with my hand but the out put shafts where the drive shafts get attached to don't spin at all I spun the spur gear both ways and nothing
Normal it has another clutch inside that needs to hit a few thousand rpm before it grabs

I'm trying to find a part number for it that way people know what to get when they have the same problem
I'm rebuilding a Revo 2.5 transmission.. you need the sensor to protect you from slamming it into reverse at full throttle lol
Let's transmission predates that kind of stuff I hate those Opti drive things are such a pain in the ass they drain your battery really quick
Yeah consume more power but it's piece of mind .. better to have radio with reverse switch not by think like where Traxxas put it.
4995
The best way to fix it is to throw it away because traxxsd sucks and go buy a losi or team associated product
