I play the Japanese a lot. Here are a couple of tips based on this video. 1. Send only one vill to berries, get the upgrade, then move the other vills over. That way they benefit from Tawara the entire time and they also walk faster to the berries. Your age up will be a little sooner. 2. You got the Daimyo manner upgrade but didn't build a bannerman for your raiding units. Bannermen would have boosted your 16 ona raid to 18.4 onas effectively + the bannerman which is basically a castle age unit in the dark fuedal age. 3. Those farms I see at 6:30 should be under the TC. 4 farms near the TC is effectively 5 with the Daimyo boost and you cannot defend those farms that far away without a tower or units. Try to leave at least 1 tile space around the TC or preferably 2 if you are going to go mid or late castle. The amount of food you get with the Daimyo boost is huge. 20 farms is effectively 25, freeing up 5 villagers to gather wood/gold/stone. 4. Don't ignore the Yumi Archers. Yumi with the arrow upgrade and the bannerman are as good as any in the game but they run much faster and can only be caught by mounted units. They are a great raiding unit. You could have decimated that woodline without going under TC fire, for eg.
Yes that is true! The big difference is cost! The samurai are amazing but cost a lot to get started and early rushes with Onna is a great way to get ahead. I would try Samurai and then (archers I forget the name now!) Killer combo is used correctly!
