Steward Copeland and Sting have both backgrounds in jazz music and you can feel it in the complexity of their playing... Bravo Yoyoka, 9 years old, Wowwww...
Hi Andrew, What I find really amazing is her ability to go right into the rim shot at around 3:43 time. The transition was so smooth and effortless. Overall, her performance demands even more analysis. Thanks A LOT! Yours, Mark
Yoyoka's list of releases in 2021 up till now: The Who- Getting In TuneBeck, Bogert & Appice- Lose Myself With You, Deep Purple- Speed King, Jamiroquai- Space Cowboy, Led Zeppelin- Good Times Bad Times, Beck, Bogert & Appice- Superstition, Maroon 5- Harder To Breathe, Cream- Sunshine Of Your Love, Daft Punk (ft. Pharrell Williams, Nile Rodgers)- Get Lucky, Ed Sheeran- Shape of You, Prince- If Eye Was The Man In Ur Life, Bruno Mars, Anderson Paak, Silk Sonic- Leave The Door Open (Live). The last one gives you so many options to use all the goofy movies (just saying). The kid is something special. I sincerley hope that her new agency Yoshimoto will do everything to give balance into her life and scedule so she will go through puberty in a normal way. Senri seems to be a great example how to manage all of this. Again agree on Stu, true original - one of a kind. He still is a kid in a candy store after all these years.
I have the hardest time trying this cut. I love it! Boy she's good!!! P.S. You are so sheltered there in the "down under". Kept from Rush, Police, Led Zep, et al! Whoa!
While not one of The Police's better known songs (last track on _Synchronicity_), the drums in that song are no joke. Yoyoka does the song justice too! Would love to see more Stewart Copeland on this channel.
Copeland is an amazing drummer. Totally did his own thing (much to Sting’s annoyance). He became an important influence on Neil Peart, which becomes most apparent on the albums Signals and Grace Under Pressure. Yoyoka does a great job with this, which is a really tricky song to play (for the bass and guitar, too). The track was a bonus on the CD of Synchronicity, but wasn’t on the original vinyl (not sure about the cassette). Great song. Hats off to Yoyoka!
It's Stewart. And while I agree with your sentiment, it's also easier to cover something that's already been done. Don't get me wrong, she is doing something that probably only 1% (or less) of humans can do. but by being the person creating the sound, Stewart has done something that probably far less than one in a million can do.
Yoyoka is a beast! So cool. Stewart Copeland is a great drummer, I think Matt Cameron from Soundgarden and Pearl Jam is like a hard rock version of Stewart. There are some great POV videos of Matt drumming with Pearl Jam and there is a similar feel to his approach to drumming.
“Murder By Numbers” is a bit of an obscure track. The B-side of the “Every Breath You Take” single, originally it wasn’t on the vinyl release of “Synchronicity”, but it was a bonus track on the cassette. It was subsequently included on the CD release. Stewart Copeland is amazing as always on it, and Yoyoka is killing it. I’m not a drummer so I can’t really describe the intro other than to say it’s an odd feel indeed, and she nails it.
@@oxeye8891 It's like watching my own kid grow up all too fast. I doubt very seriously she'll be one of those teens. She has an amazing family, has been brought up right and huge support around her.
I saw the Police live in concert for the Synchronicity tour. I always admired stewart copelands playing. I'll never forget walking into the stadium and seeing his tiny little 5pc jazz kit sitting all alone on the stage. Then I watched him play the shit out of it.
She has incredible taste great song🤘 In a community of drummers not knowing a Stewart Copland song is a blasphemous offense . You will now be taken to a non Disclosed location. And made to listen to land down under for all time and a day.
I watch a lot of reaction drummers. You are the only one I'm still subscribed to. Thanks for your honest reviews. You dont over analyze and keep it fun. Thanks dude
I’m not a drummer, but I’ve been in music since grade school. I do know that Copeland is not one of the easy ones to cover. She’s amazing! Thanks for the video, and keep them coming. 👍🏼
Hi Andrew, I've recently stumbled upon your channel, and I'm really enjoying your reaction videos. Really entertaining (especially the memes), great playing by the videos you react to, and great comments to the action happening on your screen. So far, lots of great players from jazz to metal, but I think there's a style still missing. How about some latin music greats? Like Kiko Freitas from Brazil, or Horacio Hernandez from Cuba? I specifically enjoy the cuban drummers, so I know the paying of a few of them that are worth watching: Dafnis Prieto, Raul Pineda, Jimmy Branly, Igancio Berroa, Julio Baretto, Rodney Baretto (the nephew of the previous one), and more... Keep it up! It's great! Cheers from Québec, Canada
What snare is this at start?? Noble Copper?? That song is soooo nice , i think i listen it one time before some years!! It's a huge difficult tempo with changes maybe one of the song that gives Copland the ticket to perfection!!!!! Amazing playing of YOYOKA great practice and perfection in memorizing and performance so nice!!!
this is one of my favorite police songs. she killed it! I love the part where she plays the bell and ride alternatively. Copeland was such a creative drummer.
Stewart did a album/documentary years ago called The rhythmatist . Stewart also uses the Traditional Grip on left hand. Not sure if that makes some of the hi-hat snare + ride combinations easier or harder with the Reggae Ska Punk fusion. Murder by numbers was released on Synchronicity side 2. Only on Cassette at time of release due to time limitations on an LP 33rpm record. Was also a B-Side to one of the other songs released IIRC. Was included on CD versions when they got released in that format
Copeland was one of my early influences. I used to love to play this one on the drums when I was a kid. I've got vDrums now, and I really feel I can't get a satisfactory sound and feel out of them to play any of my old Police favorites - despite having a Roland TD-30 totally pimped out.
Agreed re Copeland is original and especially for the time in the late 70's and early 80's. Yoyoka really is a special talent. Very fast and accurate as always. Check out another fantastic talent from Japan. Her name is FUMI. Remember this one as she's destined to be well known in years to come. You read it here 1st. At 13,she's the real deal. Not only is she super talented and a fast drummer, she sings as well. Here she is performing with her band ACCENT. The trio are amazingly talented. The bassists slaps so well and the lead guitarist and singer Kanon has a great voice for her age and taps very well. She’s a multi instrumentalist. In 1 clip, shows her talent in playing bass, guitar, keyboards and drums! Here’s the clip showing Fumi singing and playing drums. Not easy to do but it’s easy for her as always for naturals. th-cam.com/video/qrV7cIcBK4U/w-d-xo.html This band of young teenagers is not your average 13 and 14 year old musicians. They’re quite special. Get a greater appreciation seeing their other clips too.

There are so many very talented kids, check out Nikodem Hodur. He is a 10-year-old metal drummer. His latest cover of August Burns Red is stunning !!!!! Most adult drummers wouldn't be able to playing this song.
Like button FLAMMED - already subbed. Yeah! More Andrew & Yoyoka! 🤘🏼 So Mr. Rooney, I haven’t gone through all of your back catalogue, but I’m wondering if you got any Bruford reactions? Or Ruth Underwood & Chester Thompson with Zappa? Or Pomplamoose?

I like Sina Doering also, but I think what I find more impressive about Yoyoka is that she is every bit as good, if not better ( opinions will vary, of course ) and Yoyoka is half Sina's age.

No hay palabras para describirla es de otro universo, un sentido musical extraordinario
Stuart Copeland has some really odd and technical drum sequences. Really hard to nail. The fact that she can do it at 9 years old is mind blowing.
