Alrighty, if you wanna try this, here's the write up with some hints and tips.. my balloon knocked over so yours will look better than mine! Full recipe / write up www.myvirginkitchen.com/recipe/kinder-magic-ball/
My Virgin Kitchen hi Barry I have to say you do amazing work I have watchec you since you posted the video about the dino eggs when your oldest was little I have made 12 of your recipes and they turned out good keep up the good work please come to Liverpool love from Faye your number 1 fan Faye xxxc
Well, I guess that you could try to fill those glasses with water or something heavy to prevent the balloon from tipping over when pouring the chocolate.
For the gold leaf you're supposed to use the paper it comes on and press the gold leaf onto the surface of the food that way it goes on smooth and doesn't crumble and stick.
Chocolate petals are made using tempered chocolate and either a rolling pin, acetate plastic sheets or baking paper. The rolling pin gives you a natural curve, whereas if you use plastic or baking paper you will need to use a curved tray or something similar to lay them in. Pop in the fridge and Bob's your uncle 🤟😊👊 Another super simple method is to use a palette knife to smear chocolate on an ice pack in the shape of a petal, only this will not give you a curved effect. Hope this helps... Source:10+ years working as a pastry chef 😁 Saw a comment below about a Masterchef episode, search for tenplay masterchef recipes passion-flower. Recipe includes all the steps needed. Quite a challenge if your up for it 😉😊❤
you're missing the chocolate ring in the base that is what's gets melted, urging the petals to open (in this case the sauce isn't poured on top of the dessert, but around it).
I only recently started watching your videos but I'm loving them so far, they're really fun to watch and I can't wait to see what other kinds of things you decide to make
gold leaves are applied by putting the leaf in a bowl of cold water so its floating on the surface and then kinda "hydro dipping" whatever you want to have a gold leaf on it
The desert was awesome and cool! My favorite part of the video was Amy running up on the couch and jumping into the kitchen! Like, what did she think would happen? And was she right? 🤔😁❤🙌 Love to the family
Hey Barry, if you want more chocolate inspiration, check out HowToCookThat here on YT! Ann makes the most amazing things and also knows/explains all the how's and why's :) She's Australian so a collab is a lil tricky but if you're ever in the area... you know... I'd watch it.
For the chocolate flower you make separate petals, then put chocolate at the bottom to put it all together. Or u could just pour the sauce in a star pattern.
The way you do the ones with the petals you can drizzle the sauce a certain way or you can spread your chocolate on a plastic sheet or something let it cool curved and then arrange the petals
I started watching a couple of weeks ago ... I’ve been binge watching all of your videos from the first to last 😅 Really enjoy your videos and content I don’t really use TH-cam as much as I use to but I’m getting addicted to watching you when I get a notification Thankyou for keeping me happy while I’m in hospital ! 😅💕
Easiest way to use the gold leaf is to lay it gently in a bowl of water and then slowly lower the item you want to cover into the 'blanket' of gold leaf. Then pull it out and it should be nicely covered. Looks great though.
Barry - if you always have molasses in your cupboard, you can make brown sugar.... Light Brown Sugar from White Sugar and Molasses: Measure 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1 tablespoon of molasses into a mixing bowl. Stir with a fork until completely mixed. Dark Brown Sugar from White Sugar: Measure 1 cup of granulated sugar and 2 tablespoons of molasses into a mixing bowl. 👍🏻😊
The chocolate bars already tempered, as long as you don't overheat it then you don't need to combine the melted chocolate with the bar. It can be tricky but it works.
I saw a petaled magic chocolate desert on Masterchef (Australia) once, I think it involved gluing the petals to a chocolate ring that is sitting in the bottom of the bowl and the effect of them opening is done by hot sauce melting the bottom of them to cause them to "open". I can't give more detail than that, the Masterchef episode was a few years ago and I don't recall how many.
Would you be willing to remake one of your recipes from several years ago you made a recipe for ceviche I was wanting to know if you could remake that I mean I tried the recipe and it was pretty good just I think maybe you can add to it plus now you have a better hairstyle so there's that
If you want some SERIOUSLY AWESOME desserts to make, watch Masterchef Australia... they have some insane dessert tasks. You should have a party/bbq this summer with a dessert degustation, that will really impress people.
If you want, you can try making a juicy lucy, which is literally just a big burger with cheese stuffed inside. My dad made some a couple times on the grill, and it is paradise to me. Great video by the way.
I love this video...ur reaction is like me with freshly fried French fries...keep u the great work Barry much love to you and your amazing family from Trinidad and Tobago
To make petals they use thinner chocolate along the outline where the petals should split. I would make a smaller chocolate bowl, then cut it into petals, the. Stick it onto a slightly more inflated balloon and do another layer. The chocolate should melt along the spaces between the “petals” where there is only one layer of chocolate.
Plenty of people saying to check out Ann Reardon's chanel How To Cook That. I was going to add that you can temper much more quickly and easily using freeze dried cocoa butter, which you can buy on Amazon. Would save a lot of time on anything giant!

thanks so much Faye nice one for trying so many things out so far!
When you took that bite...I was expecting to hear, "My mind is telling me no...but my body...my body is telling me yes!"
If in a pinch you can mix molasses to white sugar and make our own brown sugar! Fyi

The perfect intro for how I’m feeling right now, thank you for your positive energy Barry!

Yes howtocookthat has an awsome video
you're missing the chocolate ring in the base that is what's gets melted, urging the petals to open (in this case the sauce isn't poured on top of the dessert, but around it).
This was brilliant. Even just watching you pop the balloon was mega satisfying.

Barry, that was absolutely amazing! Gold speckled Kinder egg works as well - it looks like gold that's still in the rock where it's been mined from.
Wow, amazing looking desert Barry. You sir are my favourite cook/baker.
Agreeded, I subscribed to three different cooks and Barry sticks out for me. :)

this video demonstrates why I love MVK - so home made, and everything that could go wrong, does go wrong, and you still show it!
I truly enjoy your sense of humour and your sense of adventure in the kitchen.
I always need a little snack when I watch! 🍿🍦🍩🥛🍪
That looks and sounds amazing, and I love the melting element!!!!
Tip to get various colours of sugar: use white sugar and add molasses to it. You can get any colour you want then.

There was something oddly relaxing about watching him chop the chocolate 🤯
He's getting better and better. Literally Gordon Ramsay is shaking 👀.
What a beautiful job you did
For the petal one, you attach, or form it from the bottom, and pour hot liquid in the bottom, and it melts, and the petals fall. its awesome! :)
I’ve been looking forward to this video for a while!
Amazing- definitely gonna try this!
It's like a hatching egg :) looks so good!
Another great looking dessert Barry !
When Barry is happy I feel happy. ^_^

omg, watching it melt with the caramel sauce made me soooo hungry.
Yum! I love the look on your face when you took a bite... that's bliss right there!
im not sure about petals, but i made leaves by oiling some bayleafs and brushing them with tempered chocolate. i assume its a similar thing for petals
The way you do the ones with the petals you can drizzle the sauce a certain way or you can spread your chocolate on a plastic sheet or something let it cool curved and then arrange the petals
Nice thanks

I'm lying here, sick with the flu, watching my Virgin kitchen videos and can't stop smiling.
1 table of molasses mixed with 1 cup regular white sugar makes brown sugar. Love the vids. I am currently continuing my Barrython
This looks so good!
Easiest way to use the gold leaf is to lay it gently in a bowl of water and then slowly lower the item you want to cover into the 'blanket' of gold leaf. Then pull it out and it should be nicely covered.

Good luck!

If you want, you can try making a juicy lucy, which is literally just a big burger with cheese stuffed inside. My dad made some a couple times on the grill, and it is paradise to me. Great video by the way.
If you don't have light brown sugar just make your own, it's super easy!
Just mix molasses in to caster sugar until you reach your desired color!

Any other nation: “Kinder Eggs!”
America, in Jefree Star voice: “Can’t relate.”
I always loved when the milk chocolate came out cloudy when mum was making pudsey chocolates to sell because my sister and I always got to eat them

Yes it is.
