  • In this video we explore Mongolian Archery (Монгол сурын харваа). We invite a professional Mongolian Archer Rinchen Davaakhuu, Ринчэн Даваахүү to teach us all about the Mongolian sport and show us how to shoot a Mongol Bow. He teachers us all the details of the Mongolian Bow and Arrow and the correct Mongolian archery technique to improve our Archery skills.

Yeah exactly, these bows are based on Manchurian bows. Not original 13th century bow. And they perform soo bad, because they are so heavy, and they have to be wrapped by synthetic nylon, if not they will fall apart :(( its visible in video also. But in that subtitles was writen 2000 years old bow, before 2000 was even no mongols :DDD Sad is, they also forgot horseback archery and technique of shooting, look how he doing marks on hand, and arrow on the left, etc... not usuable on the horse!!!

Unless you have something to work on or do it is a difficult place to live. I know many Mongolians who moved back from US and UK in their 40s - 50s now want to go back, and it is not that easy given the current circumstances and visa issues. Personally, I have decided to go back to my roots and give it a go. Hopefully my background in I.T and digital will mean I can pick up work from the west.

    Hi Guys,
I was in Mongolia during the Nadaam of 2018 ,and I fell in love with the people & their culture. One of the things I saw was my Mongolian brothers father would dunk his ring finger in a Mongolian bowl filled with I believe was either airag (mares milk) or arik (vodka) then he would remove his ring finger from the bowl. Then he would flick his finger towards the sky, repeat for shoulder height but away ,then the final at was placed on his forehead.I am sure Zulaa can correct me on this procedure.I also believe he mumbled something while doing this. Can you guys please cover this in future videos.

Some key Bow making techniques Long lost in time being also Mongolians took some bow-making techniques and shooting styles from Manchurian bow smiths & Archers. Ancient Mongolian bow's killing range was 200 yard to 250 yard. Good archers can hit the target in 350 to 400 yards for modern Mongolian bows using Blunt arrowhead and target hitting range is 130+. @@SimpleWildLiving I was thinking the same thing. Perhaps they are reconstructing their technique from more modern styles mixed with old styles. I grew up with the two-to-three fingered European draw and the arrow on the left side, which to me is awkward and unnatural. In Korea, learned the old Turkic thumb release with the arrow on the right side which was immediately easier to shoot accurately with faster ease and success, and more naturally, and I was hooked for life! The bow was so small and light, powerful and infinitely handier, as well! I think that Mongolian archery may be evolving, and may be combining old and new ways, and predict that it may eventually settle on either the similar way to the Korean draw, or the European, since these are both opposing scientific ways to easily defeat the "archer's paradox" of the arrow being off center either way. It's exciting how accurately these archers can shoot, despite doing it the way that is supposed not to be as easy to use accurately as the two historically more physically "efficient", "scientific" methods! I further predict that using one of the other two methods, they can develop their skill to even greater heights. This video is like seeing marathon runners finishing an entire marathon in good, respectable time, or even potentially winning time while wearing ankle weights! So much respect to them! I am reminded of the development of Professor Wally Jay's very effective, if initially considered to be unorthodox "small circle Jujutsu" school, and other evolving, innovative martial sports. 😍🥰☺

Hi, not it’s pre-Qing Mongolia bow from 12th century design. Hand made for the height of the archer for competitions, the bow took 1 year by a master Mongolian bow making to complete. 😊
